Direct support professionals rally for wage help in budget

We touched on this a couple weeks back, but direct support professionals and those who need their services rallied in the Capitol's War Room on Wednesday in support of funding in the upcoming state budget to help boost wages. More on that is here , but the broad strokes are they want a faster phase-in of funding they asked for - and received the first payment of in this year's budget - in order to bring DSPs up to what they believe is a living wage faster.




Police searching for Rotterdam bank robber

Rotterdam police are searching for a man who stole an undisclosed amount of cash Tuesday afternoon from the Pioneer Savings Bank on Altamont Avenue. At about 4:47 p.m., a white man entered the bank, walked up to the counter and handed the teller an envelope, demanding money.

Craig J. Mansell, 43, of 45 Third St. was charged with second-degree criminal contempt by city police on Friday. The officer said the charges stem from allegations he violated a family court Order of protection.

Large sign, message board approved for Schenectady harbor project

The Zoning Board of Appeals has granted variances that clear the way for a developer to move ahead with construction of a 30-foot-high pylon sign and 12-foot-wide electronic message board at the entrance of a $150 million mixed-used and waterfront project beside Rivers Casino & Resort. The panel voted 5-0 Thursday at a special meeting to also allow a 265-square-foot setback, which along with the height of the sign and width of the message board all exceed what city zoning laws permit.
