This is a day position. Position Specific Summary: This position provides overall leadership for the day shift Environmental Services managers and staff at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Coordinates and works with other managers within the department to oversee facility functions and activities including cleaning, environmental quality, event preparation and in-house cleaning services such as waste management and recycling. This position will communicate directly to the director of Environmental Services and may assume the director’s duties in the director’s absence. Key Areas of Responsibility Financial Management: Contribute to or develop unit budget. Determine, control, and monitor operating and project costs through knowledge of operating budget and funding structure. Review and ensure that approved financial procedures are followed. Human Resources Management: Hold managers accountable for high performance and high engagement by articulating expectations, monitoring performance and providing feedback/recognition consistently across areas of responsibility. Recommend and authorize appropriate HR actions. Influence others to accomplish goals by providing purpose, direction and motivation. Planning/Programming: Perform data and life cycle cost analysis. Job Duties:

Basic Function and Responsibility



Plan and direct operations of Parking Services, Field Services, Capital Project Management, Parking Facility Operations, and Special Event Management units within the Parking and Transportation Department. These units consist of approximately 60 full time staff and 200 part time staff; assist the Director with planning and coordinating department-wide operations, and with establishing performance standards for all other departmental units including CAMBUS, Fleet Services and Commuter Programs.                                                                                        



Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Provide leadership, coordination and improve the operations and related public information requirements of all Parking and Transportation units to provide and support an integrated campus access system.

  • Lead and improve the operations of Parking Services, Field Services, Capital Project Management, Parking Facility Operations, and Special Event Management.

  • Respond to inquiries from faculty, staff and public.

  • Develop department-wide customer service standards and support with training and follow up metrics for all units within Parking and Transportation.

  • Attend internal and external meetings, participate in committees, groups, etc. to stay informed of campus activities, projects and planning and to provide input to help guide campus-wide decisions.

The University of Iowa department of Facilities Management seeks a Director, Building & Landscape Services (BLS) to lead the organization toward a vision of a highly reliable, customer-oriented and collaborative organization with a focus on effective and efficient operation, servicing and stewardship of campus buildings and grounds.  This position is responsible for planning and leading long-range programs for the effective stewardship of general education fund (GEF) buildings and facilities, including custodial care of GEF facilities, optimal operation of building mechanical and electrical systems, energy efficiency, ADA accessibility/compliance issues, life safety and code compliance, repair and replacement of building components, proper preventive maintenance practices, predictive maintenance, continual building assessment program, and execution of strategic investments in renewal and capital projects.  BLS is a service organization of 470 FTE, with an operating budget of more than $45 million, providing services within over 12 million serviceable square feet of campus research, teaching, assembly, library and office space, and 860 acres of maintainable landscape zones across three campus areas with 200 acres being intensely maintained urban campus.  With a total campus area of roughly 16 million square feet, over 200 buildings and spanning 1900 acres, this position is a champion for staff who work behind the scenes, serving the University of Iowa as stewards of our beautiful Iowa City campus.
