Re: Ra "Yes, the new agey stuff of candles and meditative teas should be cut down upon." KT responds: You are completely unfamiliar with the yoga traditions ( sadhana parampara ) of the Hindus, the Sikhs, and the Buddhists. You're clueless. Hindus and Buddhists do a lot of candles. Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists do a lot of herbal teas. If you don't like lit candles or incense then stay away from Buddhist temples. Herbal teas are a key part of Ayurvedic medicine as used by Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists for centuries. Finally, you speak of a "hostile takeover" of yoga by New Agers. What takeover? By whom? Where? When? How? In particular, does Yoga Journal have even the slightest clue about Buddhist tantra? They haven't really run a decent article on Buddhist tantra or Buddhist mantra yoga in recent decades. And there are several million Buddhist practitioners of mantra yoga in the Western societies ( Australia, North America, and Europe ). Yeah their "police" had eight Uzi submachine guns, but those were taken away, and the feds took them down without a firefight. Re: Looking for Yoga sites and friends !!! So...which kind? There are lots of kinds.

You didn't say which kind. There are all kinds in the Bay Area. And by that I mean that it's not just hatha yoga. All 3HO Sikh kundalini yoga classes are yoga. All Hindu mantra groups are yoga. All Tibetan Buddhist fellowships are mantra yoga. Make sense? Om shanti shanti shanti. KT, Buddhist spiritual doctor

Re: 3HO kundalini yoga references, siddhi, and tantra. Teaching References.

Re: 3HO kundalini yoga references, siddhi, and tantra. Teaching References. From http://kundaliniyoga.tribe.net/thread/8093cd7a-8009-4abd-86f1-37f241cfc5b0 Re Naji: "can someone post a kriya that give siddhis from the kundalini yoga of yogi bhajan!" I will recommend a Yogi Bhajan book to you from the standard trade. It is "Breathwalk", and you can have it shipped from Amazon. The full book reference follows this letter. In particular I recommend trying the 8/8/8 breath given in that book to get a feel for the practice. Even a seventh grader can do that, and it is powerful. I give that practice, and another key reference for pranayam, again from the 3HO Sikh tradition of Yogi Bhajan. These two books provide you a powerful set of practices, and these are mostly unknown to the western yoga teachers. So if you master this stuff, you are mostly beyond the western yoga teachers. And that is the real story. Now I would like to give you some real and important context and background. It is important to have that for real yoga sadhana, for real spiritual practice. I began connecting with 3HO kundalini yoga, the 3HO Sikhs, and Yogi Bhajan in 1979. I guarantee that the kundalini yoga material posted online by 3HO teachers today is identical with what I received in person back then, or follows that very very closely. So that answers your question. Go to the licensed 3HO sources online. But your query, though straightforward, draws in a number of issues concerning siddhi and lineage, both theoretical and practical. In this post I will address these in depth, and provide clear guidance to get people past some of the major blocking issues and problems. Please note that I am no physician nor am I a muggle type psychologist, and that the use of these techniques is no substitute for professional medical or clinical psychological care. Be careful and listen to yourself, to your own body and mind. That is always primary. Be willing to stop or pause or drop a practice if you feel more unbalanced or messed up. Okay? That is the first point. The second point is that 3HO kundalini yoga is a priceless and powerful teaching. It is a saving grace. I strongly recommend it to all. It is powerful for healing, for consciousness development, for combat, and other stuff as well. That is my statement as individually licensed tantric Buddhist guru. Basically I recommend a depth and breadth approach that is classical and also adapted to the individual. As Bruce Lee said: "Do not be these styles. Styles separate men. It's a process of continuing growth." I know about kriya, sadhana, and siddhi. I teach kriya, sadhana and siddhi. The real basis of my kriya and siddhi is tantric Buddhist, and 3HO kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan has been a key part of my yoga sadhana since 1979. My 3HO book stack is a foot thick. And my tantric Buddhist sadhana bookshelf is seven plus feet long. Then there's a lot of other wizard stuff as well, from China and so forth. I am a a druid class wizard, and in particular a Defense Against the Dark Art Instructor. As in Harry Potter. See Dumbledore's Army practices the Patronus Charm. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCVdgFin8uQ Simply put, the most effective and powerful magic for defense and combat magic will always be the Buddhist protector practices, the dharmapalas. And 3HO Sikhs don't do *any* of those. The Buddhist protectors can ward off, beat or break all the other stuff. That is my main siddhi /riddhi. And if I weren't really good then I wouldn't be alive. I also began developing some healing siddhi in the 1980s. It did not become great power because I had to use the healing power to keep myself going, to keep myself alive, but you can say that is also a real siddhi, since I made it through the eighties. Both for healing power and for combat magic, and as a basis for yoga and siddhi/riddhi[...]

"The Tibetan Yogas Of Dream And Sleep"

This is a book on PRE-BUDDHIST Tibetan Bon tradition, NOT Tibetan Buddhism per se. The approach is similar but different. It makes no sense to do both, as the practices would interfere with each other. The Buddhist teachings and transmissions are far more broadly available in the West compared with the Bon teachings. "Dream Yoga and the Practice of Natural Light"

Sat, 05 Jul 2014 15:17:06 GMT2014-07-05T15:17:06Z

"Dream Yoga and the Practice of Natural Light" [ Paperback ] by Chogyal Namkhai Norbu (Author), Michael Katz (Editor) Paperback: 168 pages Publisher: Snow Lion; Rev Exp edition (April 19, 2002) ISBN-10: 1559391618 http://www.amazon.com/Dream-Yoga-Practice-Natural-Light/dp/1559391618 In Dream Yoga and the Practice of Natural Light, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu gives instructions for developing clarity within the sleep and dream states. He goes beyond the practices of lucid dreaming that have been popularized in the West by presenting methods for guiding dream states that are part of a broader system for enhancing self-awareness called Dzogchen. In this tradition, the development of lucidity in the dream state is understood in the context of generating greater awareness for the ultimate purpose of attaining liberation. This revised and expanded edition includes additional material from a profound and personal Dzogchen book, which Chögyal Namkhai Norbu wrote over many years. This material deepens the first edition's emphasis on specific exercises to develop awareness within the dream and sleep states. Also included in this book is a text written by Mipham, the nineteenth-century master of Dzogchen, which offers additional insights into this extraordinary form of meditation and awareness. Editorial Reviews Review "A personal and inspiring account of the higher possibilities of sleep and dreams by an acknowledged master. Must reading for dreamers in search of awakening." —Stephen LaBerge, PhD, director of the Lucidity Institute and author of Lucid Dreaming "Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche is one of the greatest Tibetan meditation masters and scholars teaching in the West today. His luminous Dream Yoga teachings are invaluable for anyone interested in Buddhist practices and views on dreaming and the afterlife. These profound and liberating wisdom teachings from the ancient Dzogchen tradition of Tibet provide new perspectives on this life, on the nature of reality, and on the nature of consciousness and mind. I myself read this book with great interest and recommend it to my own students." —Lama Surya Das, founder of the Dzogchen Foundation and author of Awakening the Buddha "The new edition is sufficiently different from the already pivotal previous version to warrant purchasing it and working seriously with its contents. In the current edition, Rinpoche, who has had clear abilities in dream practices since his youth, expands his initial commentary on the 'practice of the night' with more specific explanations drawn from an intimate and detailed Dzogchen manuscript he has been writing for many years." —The Mirror "Provides a valuable practice to help calm the mind in lucid dreaming states so that we can truly deepen our awareness. Dream Yoga is not just about awakening in the dream state, but also bringing it together with our non-dream awareness as well." —Nate DeMontigny, Precious Metal About the Author Chögyal Namkhai Norbu is a Tibetan master of the Dzogchen tradition. He has been a professor at the Oriental Institute of the University of Naples, Italy, and is the author of many books, including The Crystal and the Way of Light, The Supreme Source, and Dzogchen: The Self-Perfected State. 53 of 55 people found the following review helpful Dream-practice in Tibetan Buddhism By Peacock Eye on November 22, 2004 This is a good book, probably the best of those available, on the bardo teachings of "dreaming" and "natural light", within the Dzogchen view of Tibetan Buddhism. The book contains profound instructions for developing clarity within the sleep and dream states. The relevance of these teachings is that they allow us to practice even while sleeping and dreaming, because these states make up almost one-third of our lives. Mo[...]

Profound yoga philosophy : "The Doctrine of Vibration: An Analysis of the Doctrines and Practices of Kashmir Shaivism"

Thu, 03 Jul 2014 20:10:18 GMT2014-07-03T20:10:18Z

Profound yoga philosophy : "The Doctrine of Vibration: An Analysis of the Doctrines and Practices of Kashmir Shaivism" And related texts and traditions of nondual tantra. And the Road To Shambhala. "Kashmir Shaivism has penetrated to that depth of living thought where diverse currents of human wisdom unite in a luminous synthesis." -- Rabindranath Tagore (9 May 1861 - 7 August 1941) Nobel Prize in Literature (1913). This volume "The Doctrine of Vibration" is one of The Great Books of Eastern Spiritual Practice, and one of the Great Books of Philosophy. It expounds the classical Spanda-Karika of the non-dual Hindu Saiva school. Amazing it is that no one on any of the yoga tribes mentioned it before in the last decade. It has now been brought to you, at long last, by a Buddhist guru. This book is a powerful and classical exposition of Hindu yoga philosophy. It blows past most everything else ( that is not Buddhist ). If you do not study this text, and do not study the I Ching, and do not study the core Buddhist teaching, then your ivy league school Master's Degree on Divinity is completely worthless: you don't know theology and I feel bad for you wasting that time and money! But there is a real theory to classical spiritual practice, and it comes from classical lineage. In this teaching article I will provide a broad context and background to introduce this type of sacred scripture and the philosophy of nondual yoga. Here is the key specific background: Kashmir Shaivism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashmir_Shaivism The book reference is http://www.amazon.com/The-Doctrine-Vibration-Doctrines-Traditions/dp/0887064329 A person teaching yoga sadhana should know the basics of yoga philosophy, at least for the source of their own type of sadhana. It is important to have a map and compass! That is why we have sutra and tantra. And yet, many "yoga teachers", perhaps most "yoga teachers" in the West, simply do not have a map or compass. This needs to change. There is a deeper, more profound level of sadhana than just stretching and calisthenics, although that is really helpful. Yoga sadhana is not a weight loss program for western women. That is not the purpose. It is nothing like the various fads and gimmicks, like swinging a dog at the end of your arm or the photos of people doing jnanamudra ( hand gestures ) and padmasana underwater, ten feet below the surface of a swimming pool. I see this type of silly nonsense in major national yoga journals, just as I do NOT see key teachings and practices of mantra yoga and tantra in those journals. What is wrong with this picture? Everything, to begin with. So let's fix that right now, shall we? Yoga is a path of inner spiritual development. It is not, strictly speaking, a muggle exercise program. Real yoga sadhana derives from the complex of Sanskrit Indic civilization, Ayurveda, and from the overlapping traditions of Hinduism and Buddhism ( Sanatana Dharma and Buddha dharma ). The Sikh ( 3H0 ) practices come from this tradition also. Somebody should tell Yoga Journal magazine about this, really. It is long overdue. But I'll tell you, from my background going back to 1979 in Buddhist and non-Buddhist tantra, and as a licensed Buddhist guru and Buddhist theologian. Two of the key pioneers of yoga in the West are almost completely unknown. They are the tantric Buddhist Alexandra David-Neel, and the tantric Buddhist Theos Bernard, who taught a complex of Hathayoga and Buddhist tantra. Both were important and authentic western mystics and yogis. Bernard received his doctoral degree at Columbia University prior to 1950 for a thesis on Hathayoga, of which he was a proven true adept. He would have become one of the great early teache[...]

Hindu Astrology/ Jyotish, Ayurveda & guardian angel purification and protection practices for Jyotish and Rahu.

Tue, 08 Oct 2013 16:50:08 GMT2013-10-08T16:50:08Z

Hindu Astrology/ Jyotish, Ayurveda & guardian angel purification and protection practices for Jyotish and Rahu. Summary: This article is an extended set of teachings and references on Hindu astrology, Ayurvedic Astrology ( Jyotish / Ayurveda ), mantra practices as primary aids to addressing astrological difficulties, tantra, the Hindu-Buddhist deity Ganapati, and the Buddhist protector Vajrapani. Vajrapani and Ganapati are primary methods for working with astrological / energetic issues. From http://tribes.tribe.net/practicaltantra/thread/b3993d23-0ead-43e4-9835-cf4194ba7bb1 This is also posted to the very large Astrology tribe at http://astronuts.tribe.net/thread/4f15d5fc-3025-4477-8757-b30be9351c49 This is a timely topic, given the major aspects in everyones' progressed astrological charts in the current time period going through early 2015. I will therefore offer a substantial teaching article. The astrological system is called Jyotish in Sanskrit and there are good Jyotish books written in English, e.g. at Amazon. Try Hindu Spiritual Doctor ( Vedacarya ) David Frawley, for example. See this book specifically: "Ayurvedic Astrology: Self-Healing Through the Stars" at http://www.amazon.com/Ayurvedic-Astrology-Self-Healing-Through-Stars/dp/0940985888/ In fact, see his other books as well. They are all classics and indispensable for real yoga practitioners, for Hindus, and for those working with Ayurveda and healing and consciousness development. I have a personal Jyotish birth chart and personal Jyotish reading. The relevant practices ( astrological/ energetic remedies ) are mantras and sadhana ( Sanskrit recitations / deity yogas ) for Rahu, the Hindu-Buddhist Ganapati, and the Buddhist Vajrapani. I will discuss each of these here. This post, together with the included links, is a major teaching article and a comprehensive set of resources. Here is the initial post and query on Tribe Practical Tantra: "Why does Rahu [astrological north node ] represent what we bring in the present and why does Ketu represent our past? Can anyone let me know about the myths and why they represent these facets..... ?" So we will address specifics of Rahu and Ketu. You don't need anything from Hindu mythology. It's about Hindu ( or Hindu-Buddhist ) astrology and tantra. ------------ The following from http://www.9graha.com/eng/articles/9planets.htm RAHU and KETU (the nodes of the Moon) "Rahu and Ketu are not physical planets; they don’t have a physical mass, but are very powerful energetic points in the sky. They are the points of intersection between the path of the Sun and the path of the Moon, causing the solar and lunar eclipses. They are very important on the spiritual level, as they are related with the unconscious shades, unresolved karmas and conflicts coming from previous lives. They are mythologicaly represented by a snake that was cut in two: the head (Rahu) and the tail (Ketu). This inner conflict manifests as two antagonistic, opposite forces in the sub-conscious mind that generate conflicts, dualities, fears, compulsive desires, rejections or phobias, and karmic situations which lead us to face them and work them out. When we can understand and connect those two antagonistic forces, the 'Kundalini'—the inner spiritual power and strength—awakens, leading to inner healing, peace of mind and spiritual illumination. Therefore, Rahu and Ketu can be the cause of great conflicts, dissatisfactions and diseases, but by understanding and working them out spiritually, we can connect them and transform them into a great spiritual power." Re: Yoga Teacher Training Scholarship

Thu, 01 Dec 2011 07:57:51 GMT2011-12-01T07:57:51Z

Re: Yoga Teacher Training Scholarship I've applied through yogatrainingguide.com for a scholarship to do the Agama Yoga teacher training course in May. It would be a fantastic opportunity to expand my knowledge of tantric yoga and it would supplement all I have learned through my studies with Agama Yoga over the last two years. This coming year, I am going to do a TTC with Daogandantra and will hopefully be a qualified yoga teacher in March 2012. If I could do the Agama Yoga TTC as well it would make me super-qualified and super-able... which is exactly what I want to be If I am successful in my application, yogatrainingguide.com will pay for me to do the Agama Yoga teacher training course, which would be brilliant, fantastic, wonderful and amazing, all rolled into one. You, my dear friend, can help me realise that dream by going to http://yogatrainingguide.com/yoga-teacher-training/transformation-through-tantric-yoga/ and reading the article about how I got into yoga and why I want to teach it... and then you vote for me. You can do so in three way. By leaving a comment at the foot of the page of the article, by sharing the article on Facebook and by sharing it on Twitter. Please don't forget to comment, because I'm interested to read your feedback! So please please please, if you can, do ALL THREE (which counts as three votes). You don't have to register or fill out any complicated or tiresome forms. It really is very simple. What's more... only one hundred people have applied for this scholarship, so I really am in with a very good chance of winning. All I need is YOUR SUPPORT. One of my friends, Marnie Recker - who I met when I was doing my first month studies with Agama Yoga - won a trip to Mexico through a competition just like this. So it IS possible to win. Thank you for your support. Blessings to you Dee ps: If you share the article on your Facebook page and ask people to go and vote for me I'm sure that would earn me some more votes. pps: Also, if you are up for it, please forward this on to friends who you think might be interested and/or supportive

ashtanga yoga

Thu, 18 Aug 2011 09:50:31 GMT2011-08-18T09:50:31Z

the patanjali has described eight steps of astanga yoga in his book yoga sutra. these 8 steps are yama . niyama ,asana ,pratyahar, dharna dhyana and samadhi. the first step is yama ' the yama word comes from word yama which is name of god yama. which is god of death in hindu religion. when you enter a temple you willl see a statue of god yama .the yama is having a pash . so when a desiciple strarts yoga he has to go through fear of death and deceptions of mind before entrering in to samadhi. same way lovers also feel fears before going in to intimacy and void.in 64 yogini temple of you will see godess yamuna siting on a turtle .the turtle is having a hardshell to protect him and the same way we have hard shell of ego or personality . this ego or false personality is a barrier in intimacy and in innocence. a innocent person dosent have any ego or personality. read this article from oshos book ''vigyan bhirav tantra''.For tantra, for all seeking, there are layers of awareness. If I embrace you, first you will become aware of my touch upon your body; not of my love, my love is not so gross. And ordinarily we never become aware of love. We are aware only of the body in movement. We know loving movements, we know non-loving movements – but we have never known love itself. If I kiss you, you become aware of the touch, not of my love; that love is a very subtle thing. And unless you become aware of my love the kiss is just dead, it means nothing. If you can become aware of my love, then only can you become aware of me, because that again is a deeper layer. The breath goes in. You feel the touch, not the breath. But you are not even aware of that touch. If something is wrong, only then do you feel it. If you have some difficulty in breathing, then you feel it; otherwise you are not aware. The first step will be to be aware of the passage where breath is felt to be touching; then your sensitivity will grow. It will take years to become so sensitive that not the touch, but the movement of breath is known. Then, says tantra, you will have known PRANA – the vitality. And only then is there the gap where breath stops, where breath is not moving – or the center where the breath is touching, or the fusion point, or the turning where the breath, the ingoing breath, becomes outgoing. This will become arduous; then it will not be so simple. If you do something, if you go into this center, only then will you know how difficult it is. Buddha took six years to come to this center beyond the breath. To come to this turning, he had a long, arduous journey of six years; then it happened. Mahavir was working on it for twelve years; then it happened. But the formula is simple, and theoretically this can happen this very moment – theoretically, remember. There is no barrier theoretically, so why should it not happen this very moment? YOU are the barrier. Except for you this can happen this very moment. The treasure is there; the method is known to you. You can dig, but you will not dig. Even this question is a trick not to dig, because your mind says, ”Such a simple thing? Don’t be a fool. How can you become a buddha through such a simple thing? It is not going to be.” And then you are not going to do anything, because how can this happen? Mind is tricky. If I say this is very difficult, the mind says, ”This is so difficult it is beyond you.” If I say this is very simple, the mind says, ”This is so simple that only fools can believe in it.[...]

yoga and tantra

Wed, 15 Sep 2010 05:10:02 GMT2010-09-15T05:10:02Z

in ancient times devadasis or divine dancrs were dancing in tantra temples in india. .these temple is having 64 statues showing 64 forms or mudras which happens during mahamudra dance.we are like a seed we have potential to become a flower or become enlighten. or attain moksha. tanrics in india built the 64 yogini tantra temples to attain superconciousness.we have potential to attain the superconciusness by doing mahamudra dancing. in this dancing. e ventually, a soul, or a 'seeker', cannot help but look within the self, the garland of eight (8) seeds, or different appearing 'images' of dots and their projections in eight directions (making a total of 64 'yoginis' or components of stored energy within an individual) linked within the spinal column by nervous systems, the central and 2 sympathetic ones, ie., lines or threads (that too are believably made of nummerous points) representing essence of planet Saturn that control both the upward and the downward directions and thus help circulate energy from 'mooladhar' to 'sahasrara', like raw material/ cooked food from the roots to the leaves and to the flower and vice versa...in the photos of my profile you can see the statues of 64 yoginis .these 64 statues represent 64 mudras which happens during mahamudra dancing. so the tantrics carved the happening of 64 mudras in tantra temples in the form of 64 statues..but if you do a mahamudra dancing all the 64 mudras will happen to you simultaniously like it is happening to me in my mahamudra dancing on my youtube video of maha mudra dancing.all these 64 forms or mudras happens in mahamudra dancing till the energy reaches to shastrasar chakra from muladhar chakra.each statue represent one mudra of total 64 mudras .many hands of yogini shows movement of hands which happens during the dancing.you can see flower ,camphor and herbs etc which helps in attaining mahamudra.these temples are situated in hirapur in orisa nera puri and jabalpur in m.p. where i live .and many other places in india.some of them in good condition and some of them destroyed by invaders.people in india using mahamudra dancing for attaining no mind or superconciousness . during the mahamudra yoga postures happens. modern yoga guru doing yoga asanas to attain superconciousness. but my understanding is that it is wrong sequence.just see a Buddha siting on a lotus posture .do you think due to posture Buddha have attained the peace. No but the fact is that first inner peace happened to Buddha then his body took the lotus posture.because when the being is totally silent, the body follows like a shadow .the body takes a particular posture .the most relaxed possible, the most passive possible.but you can not do it other way around, you can not take a posture first expecting peace in result. posture or asana is a byproduct or result of inner peace. we see a Buddha sitting in a particular posture we think if this posture is followed then the inner silence will follow this is a wrong sequence.for Buddha the inner phenomenon happened first ,and then this lotus posture followed.look at it through your own experience .when you get angry ,the body takes a particular posture.your eyes becomes blooded and your face takes a particular expression.anger is inside and then the body follows.but anger happens first then body follows. Start from the other pole make your eyes red, creat fast breathing.you can act but you can not creat anger inside.First came the experie[...]
