Meanwhile United have been drawn against Celta Vigo in the European semi final.

A virtually impenetrable performance in defence provided the platform for a win which puts Saracens in the European final for a third successive season. In a tight first half, the visitors absorbed sustained pressure from Munster, and more of the same in the second half saw the "hosts" struggle to get over the gain line, whilst typically clinical finishing assured a comfortable Sarries win.

Big Matic Seals Semi Triumph

Sun, 23 Apr 2017 13:20:07 +0100

Nemanja Matic: he scores when he wants to! Fortunately, he selected a very good occasion to blast in his first accurate effort of the season. Following on a mere five minutes after Hazard's left foot had drilled us into the lead for a third time, the big Serb took a lay-off from the Belgian wizard and coolly despatched a drive into the top corner that left Lloris, his troops, and supporters alike all feeling rather stunned. If Chelsea had a better striker, the score could have been more substantial, as both Batshuayi and his replacement Senor Costa were wasteful with free headers. Otherwise, apart from the customary display of erratic defending, it was all good against the norf London wannabes.

Our opponents for Saturday - Blackheath

Fri, 21 Apr 2017 17:23:10 +0100

Once again we face up to the oldest "open" rugby club in the world, it being open to anybody, rather than a current or ex member of a school, university or hospital and as such the third oldest  rugby club in continious existence in the world after Dublin University and Edinbourgh Academical F.C. "Club" to give Blackheath it's handle used by it's supporters was founded in 1858 by Old Boys of Blackheath Propriety School. After just 158 years of playing at Rectory Field they have moved to Well Hall in Eltham for the 2016 - 17 season.

Munster vs Saracens European Rugby Champions Cup Semi Final Saturday 22 April Aviva Stadium   Where to start with this one? Saracens in a fifth European semi-final in a row, matching Munster's run from 2000 to 2004, and a full house in Dublin (mainly) clamouring for a third title to add to those in 2006 and 2008.

Time to front up

Wed, 19 Apr 2017 21:56:25 +0100

So, we are there. A semi Final place in the Championship play offs, and the chance to win promotion to the ‘Promised Land’. London Irish were always the favourites, and apart from a late blip at Jersey, would have gone through the entire season undefeated. They are worthy favourites to return to the Premiership, but, for possibly the first time this season, the pressure is on. They know, that one under par performance could see their dreams shattered.

Moment Critique

Tue, 18 Apr 2017 13:43:50 +0100

Bath face a moment critique in Paris on Sunday. The European Challenge Cup seems their best chance of silverware this season and winning the tournament would offer an alternative route to Champions Cup rugby should disaster strike in the final two Premiership fixtures. The month of April began well for Bath, shaking off the malaise that had blighted the latter part of the season with bright victories over Brive in the ECCC Quarter Final and Leicester in the Twickenham “Clash”. Optimism was brought to an abrupt halt at Sixways by a quick witted and fired up Worcester last weekend, much to the chagrin of the Blue, Black and White faithful. Now, at the season’s denouement, and only three guaranteed fixtures left, it is essential Bath rediscover the brio with which they began the Brive match and ended against Leicester. Paris in the spring would seem the ideal setting and a semi final date at the Stade Jean Bouin the perfect stage to kick-start the final run in. Both sides are feted by their supporters for their panache and élan, so can Bath expect to leave Paris celebrating a tour de force – or as “Les Miserables”?

Bahrain GP: Points scoring result for Massa

Mon, 17 Apr 2017 06:28:28 +0100

The 2017 Bahrain GP would see the Williams Martini team secure further points courtesy of a 6th place finish from Felipe Massa. At one stage in the race Felipe was running 4th but could not hold on to this position. For Team-mate Lance Stroll his race would end with a damaged car after having Sainz run into the side of the Williams going through Turn one. The results would see the Williams team 5th in the championship.

ManUre's Revenge

Thu, 20 Apr 2017 12:45:30 +0100

After two failed attempts to even score, let alone win, Jose Mourinho's Manchester United belatedly got their act together against the Premier League leaders. This time, the consensus of opinion is that the special needs one outwitted his Italian opposite number by playing two pacey attackers in Lingard and Rashford up front. Maybe it is time for Conte to now think outside of the box too, as his team are staggering at a time when rivals Tottenham Hotspur are flying. It's hard not to be envious of Tottenham at present: they trust their young talent, they play English players, and they are free-scoring - everything that Chelsea are not. More alarmingly, they have reduced the gap at the top of the charts from ten points to four points in the space of a mere fifteen days.

Bahrain GP: Satisfying qualifying for Williams Martini

Sun, 16 Apr 2017 04:28:46 +0100

Qualifying for the 2017 Bahrain GP for the Williams Martini team would produce what could be described as a satisfying result for the team. Felipe Massa would finish in 8th while team-mate Lance Stroll was able to lift himself out of the cut off zone and finish 12th. For Lance he now has the choice of tyres for the start. For Felipe he would come away pleased with his position on the grid. Come Sunday's race both Williams drivers are in a position to look at securing a good points scoring result.

Coad Demolishes Hapless Warwickshire

Wed, 19 Apr 2017 12:56:15 +0100

The Tykes brought to an end a dismal run of three consecutive County Championship defeats, as they emphatically trounced mediocre Warwickshire. Quite frankly, where would Yorkshire be without a generous helping of County Championship points each season from Warwickshire, a decent team that consistently underperforms in first class cricket against the white rose county? Whilst many of our batsmen chipped in with useful runs, it was the bowling exploits of young Ben Coad that once again caught the eye. Peculiarly the raw but red hot Coad had reduced the hosts to seven for five in their abject second innings. For a few farcical minutes, one was left wondering if the home team would even muster a double figures score!

Bahrain GP: FP3 more of the same for Williams Martini

Sat, 15 Apr 2017 14:22:59 +0100

The results of the final Saturday practice session for the 2017 Bahrain GP would see the Williams Martini team produce a similar result to the final Friday session. Felipe Massa would finish in a very encouraging 6th position but for team-mate Lance Stroll it was again a difficult session for the young Canadian. He would finish down in 14th. Both drivers would spend the majority of their time on track running on the super soft tyres.
