The league season begins with a home match against West Ham United in the opening weekend followed a week later by a visit to South Wales to play Swansea City.

Further Knockout Misery

Thu, 15 Jun 2017 11:48:22 +0100

A formidable Surrey (missing one England player) successfully defended their total against an under-strength Yorkshire (missing five England players). This is the second successive year that the south Londonders have conquered the Tykes in the knockout stage of the Royal London One Day Cup. The hosts remain incapable of negotiating the knockout fences in spite of making much progress at the group stage year after year. This is a conundrum that needs to be solved. Maybe the north group isn't as difficult to qualify from as the south group, though I scarcely believe that. Perhaps Yorkshire would be better suited to a season-long one-day league, akin to the old Sunday League?

Notts Quarter

Tue, 13 Jun 2017 10:37:25 +0100

After the debacle that is Somerset's Championship season continues with a defeat to Yorkshire we move seamlessly into a 50 over quarter final (mostly because it's the only day SKY haven't got a World Championship game to cover) and we welcome Notts to a pretty sparse Taunton (under 4000 tickets sold as of yesterday I heard) at 10:30 on a Tuesday. Who will play?  Who won't play?  The sun is out and we start at 11:00

Canadian GP: Stroll scores first F1 points

Mon, 12 Jun 2017 03:42:42 +0100

The 2017 Canadian GP would see Williams Martini driver Lance Stroll score his first points in Formula One with a 9th place finish in the race. This result was made even more satisfying because it was at his home race. His race would see him pit early and then move back up through the field passing several more expereinced drivers in the process. For team-mate Felipe Massa his race could not have been anymore different with Felipe suffering a DNF as a result of another car coliding with his on the first lap. A positive race for the Williams Martini team with Lance's first points but the result could have been even better.

Canadian GP: Mixed qualifying for Williams Martini

Sun, 11 Jun 2017 05:15:00 +0100

Qualifying for the 2017 Canadian GP would see the Williams Martini team achieve a mixed result with their drivers qualifying at opposite ends of the grid. Felipe Massa would produce a great result finishing the session in 7th. For team-mate Lance Stroll his qualifying would see him only manage 17th but he would suffer from various issues including not taking on a second set of ultra soft tyres as welll as a yellow flag near the end of the period. Despite this Lance is optimistic about Sunday's race while on Felipe's side of the garage a points scoring result is quite likely.

Canadian GP: Massa 7th fastest in FP3 for Williams Martini

Sat, 10 Jun 2017 16:24:18 +0100

The final practice session for the 2017 Canadain GP would see another mixed result for the Williams Martini team. Felipe Massa would set a time that would see him 7th late in the session. But for team-mate Lance Stroll, despite using the ultra soft tyre, he would again struggle to move away from the bottom of the times ending in a disappointing 18th. Qualifying should see Massa through into Q3 but for Stroll it is going to be difficult to get past Q1.

Canadian GP: Massa top six for Williams Martini after Friday

Sat, 10 Jun 2017 07:38:00 +0100

Friday practice for the 2017 Canadian GP would see the Williams Martini team come away with a positive start to the weeekend. Felipe Massa would finish in sixth after the two sessions feeling very happy with the feeling of his car. For team-mate Lance Stroll he would finish well down the order in 17th after his Friday runs using the super soft tyre. Having not been to this circuit before he spent the session learning the circuit. The team had several upgrades for the weekend that both drivers would work through.

Canadian GP: Williams Martini Grand Prix Preview

Thu, 08 Jun 2017 11:13:58 +0100

The Williams Martini team moves to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the 2017 Canadian GP. This circuit has seen a successful history for the Williams team and as such is a favourite. For the Williams team the most noteable feature of the weekend is the fact that it is the home race for team driver Lance Stroll. For team-mate Felipe Massa this is a circuit where he has driven many times. It is expected that this circuit should be one where the FW40 can perform well allowing the team to look at securing more points.
