JW gives us a detailed report on the match at the Oal. along with snippets gleamed from Sky. Running and runs out dominate the story but in the end we did not get enough runs. Nothing new there. Thanks JW for braving to report on this trip down south.

Third win on tour as City are beaten....

Sat, 22 Jul 2017 07:39:10 +0100

Too much can often be made of pre season friendlies but as Manchester United look forward to playing Real Madrid and then Barcelona over the next few days, they can reflect on three games played and three victories over LA Galaxy (5-2), Real Salt Lake (2-1) and Manchester City (2-0) on the North American part of the 2017 tour. After the games against the Spanish giants the tour returns to Europe before the Super Cup match against Real Madrid on 8th August.

Bath's Summer Tourists

Fri, 21 Jul 2017 16:53:59 +0100

With all the recent speculation about new signings (or lack of them), it is easy to forget that a number of the Bath squad were in representative action a few weeks ago. While their colleagues have been sunning themselves on the beach, or on the physio table preparing for another attritional season, nine Bath Rugby players were on tour with various teams. Here’s how they did – and what their summer experience could mean for Bath in the coming season.

When Petrus du Plessis joined Saracens in 2010 as front row cover, I don’t think anyone expected him to make the impact that he did or to remain with the club so long. It was the early days of Brendan Venter, the first Premiership Final year, and the club had a front row crisis. The legendary Cobus Visagie had retired. In his place, Carlos Nieto, Richard Skuse and Tom Mercey were the tight heads but injury to Nieto reduced cover to virtually zero.

Betfred Cup - Airdrie 3 - 1 Stranraer

Tue, 18 Jul 2017 22:57:36 +0100

Speaking to people around about me tonight at the Airdrie Vs. Stranraer match it seems that most of us are in a concensus that we are going to have to take one match at a time this season, enjoy the wins when we get them, accept the draws and suffer the loses in good grace and then move on to the next match. Tonight was one of the nights to enjoy and although the purest may think we shouldn't be celebrating a win against Stranraer the realist among us are going to accept that we are where we are and we have to deal with it.

British GP: Single point for Williams Martini

Sun, 16 Jul 2017 14:44:51 +0100

Despite the hope that the team could repeat their Austrian GP race results the Williams Martini team would only secure a sinle point with Felipe Massa finishing in 10th. Team-mate Lance Stroll would finish in a distant 16th. Both drivers would start the race on the soft tyre and would make great race starts making up a few places running close to the top ten. But as the race progressed Lance would drop down the order while Felipe was always looking at a tenth place finish. Not the result that the team was hoping for with it been their home race.

British GP: Disappointing qualifying for Williams Martini

Sun, 16 Jul 2017 03:19:50 +0100

Qualifying for the 2017 British GP would see the Williams Martini team suffer another disappointing result with both drivers qualfying towards the rear of the field. For Lance Stroll his session would see him have to contend with tricky conditions in the first period with the track wet. Lance would be knocked out in what was a difficult session given his limited expereience. For team-mate Felipe Massa he would see his qualifying end in the second period not been able to extract the pace out of the car that the team had seen in practice. With other drivers penalties Felipe and Lance will start the race from 14th and 15th.

British GP: Rain hampers Williams Martini in FP3

Sat, 15 Jul 2017 11:07:12 +0100

The final practice for the 2017 British GP would see rain arrive hampering the run of Williams Martini driver Lance Stroll. Lance was not able to complete a super soft tyre run and as a result would finish the session in 20th. For team-mate Feliep Massa his session was much sucessful finishing in and encouraginbg 9th. With the session ending with a wet track there was uncertainty as to what the conditions would be like for qualifying so the Williams team wuld go into the session with a degree of uncertainty.

A Draw In Manchester

Tue, 18 Jul 2017 13:25:29 +0100

It wasn't quite a rainy night in Georgia, but instead a rainy night in Manchester, as the two old adversaries had to settle for a share of the Twenty20 spoils. It was a pity that the precipitation succeeded in sabotaging the proceedings, because a close finish was more than likely on the cards. The Vikings only needed one big innings or one big partnership to take them close to the chequered flag, but equally a flurry of a few wickets would surely have tilted the match in the home team's favour. Regrettably, this was the second successive match of the week when Yorkshire had to settle for one point (after a deluge in Northampton), but given the team's erratic performances, maybe two points from two matches is a par score.

British GP: Massa in top ten after FP2

Fri, 14 Jul 2017 14:44:13 +0100

After a difficult first practice session the Williams Martini team would find the second Friday practice session for the 2017 British GP less eventful. The session would see Felipe Massa finish in 8th while team-mate Lance Stroll was down in 15th. Felipe would spin late in the session and would also have a bit of a coming together with Verstappen but neither moment hindered his running. For Lance his pace was again someway off the pace of his team-mate but it is early in the weekend. The same could be said of Felipe.

British GP: Eventful FP1 for Williams Martini

Fri, 14 Jul 2017 10:37:32 +0100

The opening Friday practice session for the 2017 British GP would be an eventful one for the Williams Martini team with both drivers suffering issues with their cars that would see in the case of Lance Stroll the floor to be removed. For Felipe Massa he would run over the kerbs damaging the underneath of his car. Both cars would be repaired and with the end of the session Felipe would finish in 9th while Lance was 15th. Both drivers would focus on the soft tyre for the session but in Felipe's case many of those in front of him were on the super soft tyre.

Loan Arranger Arsenal Loanees Full Progress Report

Fri, 14 Jul 2017 08:02:43 +0100

Every year a number of players make temporary exits, many of which lead to permanent exits. Some are playing for their careers, Arsenal or otherwise, while others are simply youngsters getting their first taste of senior football, and others are just biding time until they can get a work permit. I’ll briefly sum up the loan move, give my own personal recommendation, and predict what I think will actually happen.

The circuit is not only famous for its history but also for the fact that it is the track where the Williams team scored their 1st and 100th race victories. On top of this this race weekend is the home race for the Williams team as they continue their 40th year celebrations. For this reason both team drivers Felipe Massa and Lance Stroll are looking forward to this special weekend. Now it is up to the team to achieve a result worthy of this race weekend.

10 Burnley Cult Heroes

Sat, 08 Jul 2017 18:10:30 +0100

Put six fans of any club in any room and ask them to define what makes a cult hero, and I’m pretty sure you’d get six different answers. Hero, legend, cult hero, they can all be so different; yet just sometimes a player can be all three. Maybe the great Jimmy McIlroy now in his eighties and the Club President at Burnley Football Club, is one of the latter.
