PHP Coder to convert/implement an administrative dashboard (Global)
Thu, 12 Jan 2017 08:11:56 -0800
We’re seeking a coder experienced with PHP7 including basic database functions to re-write in PHP7 an existing (PHP4) administrative dashboard for our image and video-hosting site. Via this administrative dashboard, users will log in and create/upload new content, assign properties to each piece of content that they update, and view reports.
All of these administrative functions are already well-defined from a business logic perspective in the existing system -- e.g., updating [this] database record, copy [that] file to a specific folder, output [some other] query results as a report. You would be responsible for implementing all of these functions in PHP7 via an HTML template; very little design work is expected as part of this project.
Candidates must have extensive experience with PHP7, especially performing operations against a MySQL database and outputting well-structured HTML via templates. The ideal candidate will also have experience implementing robust, gracefully-degrading file upload widgets and RTE (rich text editors).
Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include
a) any examples of your work that you think demonstrates your ability to meet our needs;
b) the number of hours per week you are available to work on this project.
Qualified coders who respond to this ad will be given a full list of specifications and pages to be implemented, and asked to provide a price quote and timeline for the full project.
Icelandfilter: Can someone send me a phone book? (Iceland)
Fri, 06 Jan 2017 17:13:35 -0800
TL;DR -- Can you please send me the final printed edition of the phone book from Iceland? I will pay shipping costs.
I have recently learned two interesting things about the phonebooks of your country: first that they have recently been phased out of printing in favor of a digital-only edition, and second, that they are alphabetized by first name, and that their professions are also listed.
I can't really explain why I want one of these phonebooks, but I do. I want one SO BAD. Something about the combination of the final edition of an obsolete reference material with the idea of having an alphabetized listing of an entire nation's residents and their occupations pushes many of my silly-research-meets-awesome-organization-meets-bookcollecting buttons all at the same time.
If anyone has one of those books, or is in a position to track down one, please leave a comment or MeMail me. I'll be happy to repay shipping expenses as long as it doesn't get to pricey -- International Economy or something similar -- via Paypal. And if you are listed in the book, let me know how you feel about it and whether you're sad it's going away.
For home computer -- problem solver who likes to work with PCs and associated equipment (East Midtown Manhattan NYC)
Tue, 27 Dec 2016 22:15:42 -0800
Knowledgeable, patient, tech person who can assess my current home computer set up (Dell All in One), switch me to the new hardware/software listed below, suggest and setup appropriate backup perhaps to a cloud system, and assist me with any necessary further purchases. Likely include transfer of some existing data from Dell.
--MS Surface Pro 4 (with MS Office 365 Personal software to be installed);
--a gently used HP PhotoSmart Premium C309g All in One (printer/scanner/copier).
--iPod on which all my music is stored.
--Roku for my TV, and Amazon Prime.
--contemplating a new iPad, this may be redundant?
I have DSL, think I should switch to FiOS.
I don't know if my external drive is set to backup correctly; and, suspect I should be backing up to the cloud.
I'd like to drop my primary email (Thunderbird) and switch to my existing Gmail account. That could be problematic, for REASONS.
Tldr: I need someone to help me sort out my home computer, and do the technical stuff, while not entirely shutting me out of the process.

Math pal for my dad (11360)
Mon, 12 Dec 2016 16:35:27 -0800
My father is 83 (in generally good health), with a PhD in number theory from NYU. He wrote for many years with his PhD advisor, but his advisor passed a few years back, and I believe Dad would enjoy having someone new to do math with. This could take a variety of forms - e.g., he currently teaches math for artists, if that's a particular interest.
Cat-in-the-flat sitting in London 19-31st Dec (Chapel Market, London N1)
Mon, 12 Dec 2016 11:17:31 -0800
Need someone to check on my clever and oh-so-snuggable 3yo kitty
while I'm away 19-31st Dec. My flatsitting arrangements fell thru so looking for last-minute options to care for my darling girl.
Even better if you want to stay at least a few nights! The flat is a quiet 1-br first floor unit with balcony, floor-to-ceiling windows, fully outfitted kitchen (laundry & dishwasher), sound system etc. Convenient location in N1, just inside the congestion zone, minutes walk to Angel & Kings Cross tube stations.
Could be a great arrangement if you're hosting family or in London yourself over the holidays. Pay depending on arrangement; pls get in touch!
Organize my iTunes (New York, NY)
Mon, 05 Dec 2016 22:13:45 -0800
I'm looking for someone meticulous to organize my iTunes library. There are about 2,000 tracks. They are reasonably well organized but could use some sprucing up. Please let me know what you think would be a reasonable fee.
Need a Boston-area boarder for my two pet rats (December 23-27) (Third St, Cambridge, MA)
Sun, 04 Dec 2016 09:25:39 -0800
My two adult girls need a place to stay (in their fully-furnished cage, with food/treats/&c. provided) between December 23rd and December 27th.
I'm offering $20/day, but could be flexible.
For anyone without much rat experience: they need just a short daily feeding; they entertain themselves for most of the day. Usually they get 1-2 hours of daily cage-free, socialize-with-the-human time, but some occasional cuddles will probably be enough to tide them over for the few days. They are very resilient and friendly, and they love humans! Aside from scratching around in their bedding, they don't really make sounds.
Here's a picture of them hanging out with me and my hoodie.
I live in Cambridge, but am willing to drive them out to within a 1-hour radius of Boston. Closer is, of course, easier.
I know it's late notice for the holidays, but hopefully they can add some joy to your home too. :)
Regulatory Analyst - Conservation / Energy Efficiency (Minneapolis, MN)
Mon, 28 Nov 2016 14:39:22 -0800
I need an energy policy wonk to join my staff of talented and smart wonks working on utility energy efficiency programs.
The official job summary from the job posting is:
"Provides regulatory monitoring and oversight of energy conservation programs ensuring that all corporate and regulatory requirements are met. Provides support for the preparation of regulatory filings related to energy conservation."
Less officially, we're a large natural gas utility. We have a large conservation program (one of the best in the US). We're looking to hire an analyst to support the regulatory oversight and reporting functions related to the conservation program.
It's a great way to get started in the energy efficiency field, and offers opportunities to grow into some pretty interesting policy work. My ideal candidate would be someone with some experience and exposure to energy conservation and energy efficiency, an understanding of the energy policy landscape and the regulatory process, and decent quantitative skills including cost/benefit analysis. We're not looking for an engineer, but someone with an understanding of technical principles would be good. There is an extent to which brains and motivation can substitute for experience. Critical thinking and strong written and verbal communication skills are key, along with attention to detail - this position needs someone who can move from the nitty-gritty detail level to the 10,000-foot overview and back again.
The formal job description and online application info can be found at www.centerpointenergy.com/careers - search the postings for "Regulatory Analyst, Conservation Improvement Program." I'm happy to answer questions about the position (MeMail is good), but all applications must go through the website. The online application tool is a pain in terms of formatting but you can attach your resume/references/letter/etc as PDFs.
Web video troubleshooter (remote/anywhere)
Wed, 23 Nov 2016 11:02:29 -0800
I have a project with some background video playing on the home page, with other content overlaid on top. The video is using straight HTML5 video tags and is generally working well on the latest versions of major desktop browsers (Firefox, Safari, Chrome), where it loads, autoplays, and loops as desired. However, there are a handful of issues:
* it doesn't play at all on Surface (using Chrome)
* it doesn't play on iPads
* some of the video files we've tried do not loop in the latest Firefox - they DID loop correctly in FF 48, but not 50
So I'm looking for a contractor who really knows the ins and outs of autoplaying background video on web pages, on a variety of browsers and platforms (and especially Surface and iPad).
Please let me know your rate and a guesstimate of how long it might take you to troubleshoot the issues listed above.
Agent for the Homeless in Chicago (60612)
Wed, 09 Nov 2016 08:41:12 -0800
Hi there, I am trying to help out a homeless person and get them set up to be self sufficient. I have some extra money, and ideas, but not enough knowledge and not enough ability to do it myself.
My idea is to get him a reliable car so he can work, doing Lyft or food delivery or whatever he feels like doing. Along with this would be housing, food, cleanliness, and all that other stuff that goes along with living in civilization.
I have talked to a couple dedicated services that do these things but they have limited availability. I want to pay you to help him out, be his agent, which includes knowledge about how to navigate the various paperwork feifdoms out there to reacquire things like his drivers license and things like that. You don't need to know everything about every little agency, but I would think a general knowledge of the system and ability on how to find out what specific requirements things need will be best. If you were able to drive him to different places to get what he needs that would be great, otherwise I can do this.
I will pay you whatever you feel is fair for your labor and expenses. All fees or charges that are needed will be paid for by me. Maybe we can work out some kind of retainer, where I pay you a lump sum and you pay said fees from there. We can work it out.
Things that need to be done, roughly in order of most pressing on down:
- Drivers license. He knows how to drive, claims a decades old DUI but otherwise no other impediments to getting relicensed.
- Housing. He has intermittent housing with family now, but not reliably. He currently lives in Garfield park, Madison and Pulaski, but is not necessarily tied there. Perhaps more expensive but regular temporary housing at first, then a less expensive apartment later.
- Knowledge. He is not very good with technology, and would need to learn to use his phone more proficiently to use different driving labor services. I was thinking a basic community college course or other private computer proficiency course.
Once we get these balls rolling, and he is able to start earning income. I would like to keep you on to figure out anything else we need, on the same terms, but this would not be required.
Thank you for your help, and any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

i have the replacement logo. there is a decent chance there may be additional work along these lines.
Bengali Language Help (Local Group)
Fri, 21 Oct 2016 08:05:08 -0800
Record yourself, in a quiet place, pronouncing 25 Bengali words very clearly, and send me the sound file.
A native speaker of Bengali.
Able to articulate well.
Able to get a nice clear recording.
Also: read through a short, pleasant, non-academic English language article on Bengali/Bangladeshi culture to identify errors.
Pair program with me. (Remote)
Tue, 18 Oct 2016 21:12:06 -0800
I'd like to find someone to virtually pair program Ruby projects with on a regular basis. Vim, Screen, Tox (or similar setup).
I feel somewhat odd in that I'm basically searching for a tutor/friend. I want this to help fill the gaps that IRC, search engines, and my textbook cannot.
I know enough to complete a small (~250-line), work-in-progress application. I would like it and future projects to fit with best practices. We could start something new and build it from the ground level.
I'm still a beginner and would prefer to work with anyone at or above my skill level. I can share my current work as a measure of that level.
All I can offer in return is companionship and bad jokes. Maybe we can build something cool together. Please Memail if interested.

Art Commission for Fiasco RPG Playset (Providence, RI)
Fri, 29 Jul 2016 12:23:14 -0800
I've written a Fiasco Playset
that I'd like to self publish (via a creative commons license). I'm satisfied with my writing and layout skills, but I'd really like to commission a striking cover that's in tune with the style of other playsets that are out there.
I'd be quite happy with a Saul Bass poster* style cover if it conveys the gist of my playset, but I'd also be happy to entertain other styles. The topic of the playset is very specific (contract archaeology), and I'd like that to be easily recognized by anyone who's worked in the field. Mostly, that involves featuring things like hi-vis vests, hard hats and trowels.
I'd like sign off on a final version by the end of August.
(*This style is strongly associated with the game)
help me figure out a bass tab (New York but you don't have to be local for this)
Thu, 07 Jul 2016 13:03:06 -0800
I'm trying to figure out the bass tab for a specific arrangement of U2's Walk On* - the one from the 7 album. Audio here.
The bass tabs for this song that I can find on the internet are 1) from the arrangement on the All That You Can't Leave Behind album 2) mostly incorrect.
What I really need is to be able to listen to the song and figure out the bass tab just by ear, but I'm relatively new to bass playing and also unfortunately my hearing is not so great in my right ear so this task is proving to be quite difficult for me. If someone more skilled than I am can help me with this I'd be most grateful.
I typically pay my music teacher $70 per 1hr lesson and am happy to pay at that same rate (though I'd prefer to get a time estimate for completion up front).
Thank you for helping with this random request.
