Nearly a year ago to the day, the Tampa Bay Storm fell to 1-9 and were in the midst of their second losing streak of six games or more in 2016. Of course, the team went on to finish the regular season 2-14 with a blowout “playoff” (all teams qualified) loss to the Philadelphia Soul. The offseason brought plenty of coaching changes and roster maneuvering, and here we are at the mid-point of the 2017 season.



Valor Struck By Storm Again
The Washington Valor (1-7) dropped their seventh straight, their third loss to the Tampa Bay Storm (7-1) in less than a month in front of 9,856 fans inside of Amalie Arena on Saturday night. Valor wide receiver Charles McClain set a new franchise record finishing with 215 all-purpose yards. With their 58-57 win, Tampa Bay became the second team to secure a playoff berth.

There’s nothing like seeing teams combine for over 100 points, Quarterbacks throw for video game like statistics, and defensive coordinators cringe on the sideline every time they look at the jumbotron and see that their defense has allowed 60 or more points.

All of that, and more, was at stake on Saturday night at Amalie Arena. And for the Tampa Bay Storm, it just wasn’t meant to be.

It's officially official. Week 1 is in the books. While I only got a chance to catch some of the Cleveland/Tampa Bay game, I was at the Washington Valor home opener. Verizon Center was buzzing, with the energy in the air, it felt like this was a playoff game and Arena Football had been a staple in D.C. for the last fifteen years.
