Mayor Elorza today joined City Council members, School Board members, representatives from the Nellie Mae Education Foundation (NMEF) and the Harvard Graduate School of Education as well as community members to announce the All In: Providence Education Moonshot Summit. The summit, on April 8, will aim to engage all Providence stakeholders including families, students, teachers, community members and partners to make a citywide commitment to ensuring that all Providence students are successful.

City of Providence Receives $200,000 Environmental Protection Agency Grant

Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza today announced that the City of Providence has been selected to receive a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as part of the Brownfields Area-Wide Planning (AWP) program. The City will use grant funds to develop a vision, market study, and an area-wide plan for redeveloping contaminated brownfield sites along the Woonasquatucket River, just west of downtown Providence.

PROVIDENCE, RI - Due to winter storm conditions Providence Recreation Centers will be closed tomorrow, January 7th. There will also be a citywide parking ban beginning at 12:01AM on January 8th, which will remain in effect until further notice.

Residents with overnight parking passes are advised that they cannot park on the street during the duration of the citywide parking ban. All vehicles parked on the street in violation of the citywide parking ban will be ticketed and towed to ensure that roadways can be plowed.

PROVIDENCE, RI - The City of Providence announced Wednesday that free, curbside pick-up of Christmas trees will take place from Monday, January 9 through Saturday, January 21 on regularly scheduled trash pickup days. All trees collected by the City will be delivered to the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation and recycled into compost.

This on-going project series is part of Mayor Elorza's One Providence initiative aimed at protecting and serving every resident of the city regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, political affiliation, religion, or disability.

Mayor Jorge O. Elorza is pleased to announce that the City of Providence is accepting nominations for its fourteenth annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hall of Fame induction ceremony to be held January 31 in City Hall.

Letters of nomination will be accepted until December 23, 2016. Nominations are welcome of local individuals who have made meaningful contributions to acceptance, social justice, civil rights and equality in the City of Providence or as a resident of the community.
