Traditional Irish music and dance filled Providence City Hall today as Mayor Jorge O. Elorza hosted this year's annual St. Patrick's Day celebration.

New book scholarship provides $70K a year to help students with financial need attain a college education


Mayor Jorge O. Elorza today joined members of the City Council, Superintendent Chris Maher, Providence School Board members, Providence Public School District officials, and students at Classical High School to announce the Edward Hinkling Bradford Scholarship. The book scholarship aims to assist Providence public school and public charter school students pursuing a college education who demonstrate financial need through individual $750 awards.

Providence Public Schools Will Open on a 2-hour Delay Tomorrow (3/15), Parking Ban Lifted at 5AM

PROVIDENCE, RI - Due to today's winter storm, Providence Public Schools will be operating with a 2-hour delay tomorrow, 3/15. A citywide parking ban will remain in effect until 5:00AM in the morning.

As a reminder, garbage and recycling pickup will operate with a one day delay for the rest of the week. Residents typically scheduled for a Tuesday collection, will have collection Wednesday morning.

Providence Public Schools Closed on March 14th with Citywide Parking Ban to Take Effect 12:01 AM (3/14)

Due to winter storm conditions Providence Public Schools and afterschool activities are canceled for March 14, 2017. Recreation Centers will also be closed tomorrow. There will be a citywide parking ban beginning at 12:01AM on March 14th overnight, which will remain in effect until further notice. Residents with overnight parking passes are advised that they cannot park on the street during the duration of the citywide parking ban.

City of Providence Commits to Major Investment in the City’s Stormwater Infrastructure

Yesterday, Mayor Jorge O. Elorza signed an agreement with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management to bring the City's Stormwater Management System into compliance with its Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System permit (MS4). Per the terms of the agreement, in the next seven years, the City will significantly increase investments in the stormwater management system and infrastructure.

Mayor Jorge O. Elorza today announced that his office is accepting applications for the 2017 Mayoral Fellowship Program.

Through sponsorship from Cox Charities, the Mayoral Fellowship Program offers full-time summer positions to students and recent graduates interested in gaining meaningful experience in city government. Mayoral Fellows work under the direct supervision of a Department Director on a high-impact project designed to improve the quality of life in Providence.
