Mayor Jorge Elorza today announced he is appointing former army Colonel Michael Borg to serve as Director of the Department of Public Works.
"Michael has spent his career leading complex operations when timely success is critical," said Mayor Elorza. "I know that the experience he brings from the armed forces, combined with the intricate knowledge of Providence that he developed while leading PEMA, make him the ideal candidate to make sure our Department of Public Works delivers for neighborhoods throughout the city."

Mayor Elorza made the following statement today regarding the proposed LNG facility in Providence, Rhode Island:
"The entire world is threatened due to climate change and we must move away from fossil fuels. In Providence, we have set ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and we are leading the way to becoming carbon neutral by 2050.

Mayor Elorza today announced this season's conclusion of Summer Recreation programs throughout the city. This year's expanded offerings included dozens of camp activities, municipal pools and water parks - including a new splash park, the city's summer meals program, high school basketball league, swim meet, little league tournament, and educational programming to promote daily reading.

Mayor Jorge O. Elorza today joined members of the City Council, Parks Superintendent Wendy Nilsson, Recreation Director Michael Stephens, and Joslin Recreation Center Director Elmer Stanley in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the City's new Splash Water Park. The outdoor play space is designed to be opened throughout the year and provides children and adults a unique experience as the structures and equipment can be enjoyed without the presence of water.

Mayor Jorge Elorza today announced that Robin Muksian will serve as Providence's Director of Administration where she will oversee the City of Providence's administrative aspects and operations while serving as senior advisor to the Mayor.
"Robin has a long and accomplished history of public service throughout her career," said Mayor Elorza. "She has been an asset with the Providence Public School District and I am excited for her to join our team as we continue to strengthen our neighborhoods and city."
