Fifth annual Earth Day celebration and spring clean-up program to take place Saturday, April 22
Mayor Jorge O. Elorza today announced that the City of Providence will be hosting its fifth annual city-wide celebration of Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Earth Day activities are dedicated to cleaning up green spaces and neighborhoods and celebrating the community groups that make Providence's public spaces vibrant.

Elorza today joined elected officials, Recreation Director Michael Stephens, Economic Opportunity Director Brian Hull, AS220 Artistic Director Shey Rivera, and community partners to announce expanded summer employment opportunities for Providence youth. In summer 2017, the City will offer more than 1,000 summer jobs, an increase of close to 40% from 2016.

PVDFest will bring four days of art, music and more to the streets of Providence, June 1- 4, 2017
City of Providence Mayor Jorge O. Elorza, the Department of Art, Culture + Tourism and Founding Partner FirstWorks announced PVDFest, Providence's signature art festival, will return for its third edition June 1- 4, 2017. During the four-day event artists and performers from around the globe and just around the corner will descend upon Providence for a multicultural and multidimensional celebration of artistic expression.

Traditional Irish music and dance filled Providence City Hall today as Mayor Jorge O. Elorza hosted this year's annual St. Patrick's Day celebration.

New book scholarship provides $70K a year to help students with financial need attain a college education
Mayor Jorge O. Elorza today joined members of the City Council, Superintendent Chris Maher, Providence School Board members, Providence Public School District officials, and students at Classical High School to announce the Edward Hinkling Bradford Scholarship. The book scholarship aims to assist Providence public school and public charter school students pursuing a college education who demonstrate financial need through individual $750 awards.
