New Parking App Launches at Providence Meters

Passport app now available at on-street parking meters

There's a new app available in Providence that will make parking easier for drivers across the city.

The city has introduced Passport, a parking app that allows drivers to pay for metered parking from the convenience of their phones. Rather than paying at the meter, users can purchase parking securely in the app, monitor their session, and extend time remotely.

Drivers advised that 3.2 mile greenway will introduce one-way vehicular traffic in sections of park

Mayor Jorge O. Elorza and the Providence Parks Department today announced that in an effort to increase free outdoor recreation opportunities in Roger Williams Park, the City will unveil a new 3.2 mile greenway loop on June 1, 2017. The greenway, which features designated tracks for biking, walking and or running, vehicular travel, and parking will also introduce park visitors to a new one-way vehicular traffic pattern along most areas of the loop.

The Providence Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) will conduct tests of the Port of Providence Emergency Siren Warning System (PPESWS) at noon on Monday, May 22, 2017 and again at noon on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.

The primary goal of these tests is to ensure proper functioning of the sirens and the system control panels associated with them.

These sirens may be audible in surrounding communities. The alert signal will be followed by the message:

Funds to aid implementation of neighborhood workforce development sites targeting underserved job seekers


Mayor Jorge Elorza today announced that the City of Providence has been awarded a $400,000 grant through the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston' s Rhode Island Working Cities Challenge (WCC). The grant will aid the implementation of the PVD--Transforming its Workforce System initiative proposed by the Providence Working Cities Challenge Team, which was led by the City's Office of Economic Opportunity.
