8 Bells Lecture Series To the Walls of Derne
To the Walls of Derne William Eaton, the Tripoli Coup, and the End of the First Barbary War, by Chipp Reid. To the Walls of Derne recounts the 1804 naval campaign to unseat Yusuf Karamanli, the ruler of Tripoli. Using a three-pronged approach, President Thomas Jefferson first ordered the most powerful U.S. naval squadron the world had yet seen to the Mediterranean to begin the attack on Karamanli. Under the command of Commodore Samuel Barron, the squadron included many of the same officers who had made Commodore Edward Prebles summer campaign in 1804 a success.

WWI Baseball at Cardines Field
The Naval War College will host a baseball game on Friday, September 29th at historic Cardines Field in downtown Newport. The program is designed as a fun event with educational programming to mark the centennial of American involvement in World War I, and is being organized in close collaboration with Naval History and Heritage Command, the Congressional World War Centenary Commission, and the City of Newport. The Army-Navy baseball game will be played in period-accurate uniforms, and is a precursor to the opening of a new World War I exhibit at the Naval War College Museum this December. The gates to Cardines Field will open at 430 p.m. and all are welcome to attend this free event.



Electro Hip Hop Violinist, Svet, Live in Concert
Americas Got Talent contestant, Electro Hip Hop Violinist - Svet, will be performing one night only at McVinney Auditorium. This special concert will also feature the instrumental talents of the students of two Providence Schools, the Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts TAPA and LaSalle Academy. After an educational day of playing together on the McVinney Auditorium stage under the guidance and direction of Svet, the students will showcase their work in a live concert that evening with Svet. This unique performance will feature the two student groups together with Svet playing a variety of modern music pieces including selections from Journey, Drake, Bruno Mars, and Calvin Harris.



Ladies of Linden Place
As you tour the 200-year old mansion rooms, the women of Linden Place come alive through portraits, photographs, artifacts and more. Learn about generations of DeWolf and Colt women who lived at Linden Place and the daily lives and roles of ladies in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Hear the stories about the different women who lived and worked at Linden Place Mansion from 1810 through 1986 a slave traders wife Charlotte DeWolf, a widow, who to make ends meet turned Linden Place into a boarding house Sarah DeWolf, the social grand dame of Bristol, Theodora, who saved Linden Place from the auction block and an Oscar award winning actress Ethel Barrymore, who spent summers at Linden Place.



The Narragansett Oktoberfest
Hallo Neighbor Its been three years since we last brewed our FEST Lager. Well weve been getting yelled at non-stop for that crazy decision and weve finally come to our senses. To celebrate the Return of the King, were throwing a big bash on Providences west side with Ogies Trailer Park and E and O Tap. Well have plenty of beer, limited editions steins, German smoked meets from Great Northern BBQ Co., Wicked Twisted Pretzels and proper German Oom-Pah band The Hofbrau Spielers. So strap on your lederhosen and pick out your favorite dirndl because you have more than one. Its FEST time.



REVOLUTIONARY WAR ENCAMPMENT
The Charlestown Historical Society will present a Revolutionary War Encampment at the historic Amos Greene Farm in Charlestown. The encampment will be portrayed by the 2nd RI Regiment, British, 54th of Foot, and the French. The day will include skirmishes, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, an historical cemetery visit and daily camp life exhibitions. Also performing will be the Cape Cod Blue Jackets Fife and Drum Corp. Historically-related vendors and crafts exhibitions. Parking will be at the Charlestown Elementary School, 363 Carolina Back Road Rt. 112, and there will be a shuttle bus to take visitors to the farm site. A donation of 5.00 for adults 14 years and over is suggested. No pets.



10th Annual Interfaith Conference on Climate Change
Join RI Interfaith Power and Light for our 10th Annual Interfaith Conference on Climate Change Transforming Prayers into Passionate Action, featuring Tim DeChristopher, a prominent leader in the Climate Justice movement, with the music of Bryan Cahall. The Last Sicilian - Nick Albanese.
The Last Sicilian is an evening of true stories from ActorWriter Nick Albanese. Stories about his childhood years spent in his familys bakery, how generations of his relatives met, married and overcame much to come to America. There is some Sicilian history and the negative perception of Italian immigrants in America when they first came to the States and then switches back to the family stories. Youll learn a little history, get a bit emotional and definitely have tons of laughs as Nick tells his funny and heartwarming tales of growing up Sicilian in America.



Opening Receptions
Please join the historic galleries at the Providence Art Club on Sunday October 22 from 2-4pm for our opening receptions for two new exhibitions, The Edge of Light features paintings and works on paper from Mary Jane Begin, Lorraine Hynes, and Kelly McCullough, as well as photography from Lenny Rumpler. Right Minds of Two features the paintings of friends and fellow artists, Del-Bourree Bach and Domine Vescera Ragosta. These wonderful shows will be on view through November 8. Our galleries are always free and open to the public. Gallery hours are weekdays 12-4pm and weekends 2-4pm.

Hoedown for Houston is a benefit to raise money for the folks in Texas recovering from Hurricane Harvey. 50.00 Ticket price includes two drink tickets and BBQ. Celebrate the return of the Music Mansions chamber music series First Fridays with a night of local music. A virtuosic and entertaining performer, Michael DeQuattros compositions range from blistering hand drum solos to grooving jazz fusion tunes, improvisatory explorations and through-composed works mixing acoustic instruments and electronics. He will be joined by James Bohn, James Moses, Jacob Richman, and composer-in-residence Kirsten Volness.



St. Eugenes Craft and Car Show
St. Eugenes Craft and Car show will be held at the beautiful Town Line Farms on Money Hill Rd Rt. 100, this field that has been known for decades as the The Field of Dreams, and has played host to over 50 of New Englands Finest craft vendors and over a million dollars worth of Classic and Antique vehicles for the past 8 years. Featuring Rhode Islands greatest Doughboys, Clam Cakes and Chowder, Sundaes, Cones and assorted pastries. ALL money raised goes directly to St. Eugenes Parish Food Pantry to help feed those in need.
