39th Annual South County Hot Air Balloon Festival
The Annual South County Hot Air Balloon Festival is an ongoing gathering of community, bbq, music, and of course lots of balloons. The event is held at the University of Rhode Island Athletic Fields in Kingston, Rhode Island each July, and features up to 14 hot air balloonists or aeronauts for three days of flying around Southern Rhode Island. The festival offers airborne jugglers, balloon rides, a BBQ competition, craft vendors, giant kite flying, inflatable rides, kids train rides, rock wall climbing and more

The Colonial Theatre Shakespeare Festival Presents Twelfth Night
2017 marks the 26th Anniversary season of the Shakespeare Festival. This popular event draws almost 20,000 audience members each year to historic Wilcox Park in downtown Westerly to experience the thrill of live, outdoor theatre. During the summer of 2017 the festival will produce the rollicking comedy TWELFTH NIGHT from July 26th through August 13th. The Festival has been honored for the excellence of its productions and designated the Official Shakespeare Festival of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island House of Representatives.



Save the Bay Swim
Swim, kayak or volunteer for Save The Bays largest annual fundraiser as 500 swimmers and nearly 200 kayakers trek 1.7 nautical miles across the Bay. Raise money and awareness in an effort to protect and restore the Narragansett Bay region.



Newport Jazz Festival
The festival features three full days of jazz on four unique stages on the grounds at Fort Adams State Park situated at the mouth of Newport Harbor with panoramic views of the Newport Bridge and the East Passage The festival features four stages of world class musicians, food, and crafts and a number of exhibits.

The Newport Folk Festival, founded by George Wein in 1959, takes place on the grounds at Fort Adams State Park and features four stages of world class musicians, food, vendors and a number of exhibits.



Necronomicon Providence
Have you heard the call Join us for over four days of weird fiction, art, academia, and festivities in the birthplace of Weird Providence, Rhode Island. NecronomiCon Providence is an expansive exploration and celebration of all the greats of weird fiction, including predecessors and contemporaries of Providences H.P. Lovecraft and the many authors and artists who have forged their own paths of weird.



Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival
Now in its 21st year, New Englands largest festival, Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival RIIFF will take place August 8-13, 2017. Ranked as one of the top 10 Festivals in the United States, RIIFF is also a qualifying festival for the Live Action, Documentary and Animation Short Film Academy Awards through its affiliation with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. It was also recently named a BAFTA British Academy of Film and Television Arts and Canadian Screen Awards Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television-qualifying Festival. RIIFF 2017s program will feature a diverse selection of high-profile world premiers and provide a showcase for international features, documentaries, and shorts from over 50 countries.



Newport Antiques Show
The Show will celebrate its 11th year with an updated program and new associated activities while visitors discover antiques, art, jewelry, vintage fine accessories and photographs in one convenient venue. Several new dealers of traditional antiques will join the incredible team of returning exhibitors. A total of four dealers of vintage and antique jewelry will attend as well as Only Authentics, a dealer of vintage handbags. Also new this year, Jessica Hagen Fine Art and Design will feature the photographs of Elliott Landy, the official photographer of Woodstock in 1969 who captured American rock musicians as well as the iconic anti-war demonstrations of the 1960s, along with neo-expressionist artist Hunt Slonem.

46th Annual Blessing of The Fleet
The Narragansett Lions Club held its first Blessing of the Fleet in the summer of 1972. Back in 1972, this was a 1-day event held in Galilee. 35th Annual Block Island Triathlon
If love the smell of adrenaline in the morning, why not join about 400 other participants in the annual Block Island Triathlon, Saturday August 5th at 9am Start off at Fred Benson Town Beach with a brisk quarter-mile swim through the waters on the eastern side of the island. Take a second to drip dry, then buckle on your helmet for a 12-mile ride along the beautiful western coast. Trade your bike shoes for your running shoes and finish up on the eastern beaches with a 4-mile run. And if all that sounds completely crazy to you, just amble on down and enjoy watching the race with your coffee and donut at your side.

Ladies of Linden Place Mansion Tour
As you tour the 200-year old mansion rooms, the women of Linden Place come alive through portraits, photographs, artifacts and more. Hear the stories about the different women who lived and worked at Linden Place Mansion from 1810 through 1986 a slave traders wife Charlotte DeWolf, a widow, who to make ends meet turned Linden Place into a boarding house Sarah DeWolf, the social grand dame of Bristol, Theodora, who saved Linden Place from the auction block and an Oscar award winning actress Ethel Barrymore, who spent summers at Linden Place.

A forest, vernal pond and meadow can all be found at Ballard Park. Children will hike trails and view these different habitats, teaming up to find and identify two organisms in each ecosystem and determining what resources they require to survive. There is a hidden secret in Ballard Park Help find a concealed geo-cache by deciphering a riddle and using GPS coordinates to navigate. All volunteers are encouraged to bring their own reusable gloves, water bottle and snacks to the cleanup event.

A Culture of Corruption The Apothecarys Tale
Newport was one of the earliest American seaports to engage in the transatlantic drug trade during the first third of the eighteenth century. At a time when both the production and sale of pharmaceuticals were unregulated on this side of the Atlantic, Newports unlicensed apothecaries were free to advise and dispense the most dangerous substances. Drug ingredients from several continents were compounded in London, tampered with en route to New England, and costly when prescribed locally. Even more threatening to the consumer, apothecaries often adulterated drugs, a tactic that reduced the products efficacy while enhancing the apothecary profit

Youll need your zzzzs before waking up with the animals A light breakfast will be provided before a morning Zoo tour.

This summer the city has teamed up with 95.5 WBRU to bring some of the nations best rising talent to the Waterplace stage, the series will feature emerging alternative rock bands paired with regional rising stars. Forth Worth indie rockers The Unlikely Candidates kick-off the series at Waterplace Park. Formed in 2008, the band is comprised of Kyle Morris vocals, Cole Male guitar, Kevin Goddard drums, Brenton Carney lead guitar, and Jared Hornbeek bass. Their single Follow My Feet has charted on Billboard triple A at number 6 and spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Charts. The song also charted at #35 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. Cannibal Ramblers will open the show.

Brooklyns Dreamers bring their unique brand of 70s punk meets power pop to the Waterplace stage. Nick Wold vocals, guitar, Chris Bagamery drums, backup vocals, and Nelson bass, backup vocals introduced the Dreamers to listeners in November 2014 with their self-released, self-titled debut EP. Their colorful, passionate music tugged at heartstrings and made tastemakers dance, earning them praise Billboard, Spin, Alternative Press, Vice NOISEY, and Guitar World. The Beardogz will open the show.

Philadelphia electronic pop duo Marian Hill takes the stage. Comprised of Jeremy Lloyd productionsongwriting and Samantha Gongol vocalssongwriting, the pairs roots can be traced back as far as a middle school talent show during which Lloyd - the son of a conductor and an opera singer - heard Gongol sing for the first time. The band is joined live by bassist and saxophonist Steve Davit. Call Security will open the show.

This summer the City has teamed up with 95.5 WBRU to bring some of the nations best rising talent to the Waterplace stage, the series will feature emerging alternative rock bands paired with regional rising stars. The series closes out with California punkers SWMRS. Formed in 2004 as Drive North by Cole Becker and Joey Armstrong after watching the film School of Rock, the Oakland-based band was soon joined by Coles brother Max Becker. Drawing on a mix of influences ranging from the Beach Boys to the Ramones, Drive North released a demo and a string of EPs between 2008 and 2010 before issuing its first full-length, Dont Be a Dk, on June 14, 2011. Neutral Nation will open the show.

Ladies Night 3 is the latest stage play by local artistic director, Helen Baskerville-Dukes. In this episode, we find the lifelong friends doing their best to recover from a tragedy. The fate of the ladies night monthly meetings hangs in the balance as the ladies each struggle to cope with loss, betrayal, and uncertainty. As they attempt to mend their brokenness, they are struck yet another blow when a long-held family secret is revealed, forcing one of the ladies to make a very difficult decision.
