July Auto Sales Soar to Pre-Recession Levels

(Best Syndication News) July auto sales jumped to pre-recession levels, according to the big-three automakers. Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) said that small car sales are up 32 percent year-over-year (y-o-y) while utility vehicles also posted strong gains.

General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) sold 234,071 cars last month, an increase of 23 percent (16 percent y-o-y). Kurt McNeil, vice president, U.S. sales operations, called their sales “well balanced” in the slow recovery. The company’s new products also helped.

The company is looking for multi-unit franchisees for the counties of Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino, Ventura, and Orange. The restaurants would start to open in 2015. Discover survey finds consumers plan to spend less in January

(Best Syndication News) - Discover Financial Services (NYSE: DFS) found lower-income consumers were less confident on the economy and their personal finances in December 2012. The monthly survey dubbed “Discover U.S. Spending Monitor” showed a 4.3-point decline to 91.1 points for the month of December. This could translate into less post-season spending.

The Discover survey found 15 percent of the respondents rated the economy as good or excellent, which was a 3-point decline from November 2012. However, in December 2011, only 9 percent that thought the economy was doing well. Thirty-two percent of the consumers surveyed think the U.S. economy will improve, which was 3-percentage points lower than the previous month.

The third-party holiday seller unit sales have grown to over 40 percent compared to the same time in 2011. Over the entire 2012 year, Amazon third-party sellers worldwide have sold hundreds of millions of units valued in the tens of billions of dollars.

Peter Faricy, VP for Amazon Marketplace said that their website serves over 188 million active customers throughout the world.

Third-party sellers can fulfill the orders themselves or they can use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). If a seller uses the FBA service, Amazon will ship their products for them. Sellers utilizing FBA can also opt to offer the buyer FREE Super Saver Shipping on their items. Amazon also handles the returns and the customer service issues.

More than Two Million Ford branded Vehicles sold in 2012

GM buying back 200 million Shares of Common Stock from U.S. Treasury

The transaction will be for $27.50 per share – totaling $5.5 billion. The company will buy back 200 million shares out of the 500.1 million shares owned by the government. The buyback is expected to occur by the end of 2012.

GM’s buyback announcement parallels the Treasury’s plan to exit entirely from holding GM stock within the next 12 to 15 months. The exit plan is subject to market conditions.

Office Depot opens New Concept Stores in Denver

AT&T to invest $14 Billion in Wireless and Wired Broadband Infrastructure

(Best Syndication News) – Today AT&T announced a plan to invest $14 billion over the next three years to expand their 4G LTE network and wired IP Broadband network. The expanded coverage will help create faster Internet speeds for consumers throughout the United States.

AT&T estimates that around 300 million people will be covered by the 4G LTE wireless broadband network by the end of 2014. Around $8 billion has been allocated for wireless initiatives.

The wired-IP broadband network coverage will also be expanded to 75 percent of their customer locations in AT&T’s 22-state wired phone service area by the end of 2015. Around $6 billion has been set aside for wireline expansion.

East Coast recovers after Hurricane Sandy

(Best Syndication News) - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that President Obama has declared an emergency for the four states that were affected by Hurricane Sandy and the major storm yesterday. The government is now in disaster recovery mode.

Many residents up and down the East coast are experiencing power outages and gas service interruptions. The hardest hit area was Narragansett/Warwick, Rhode Island with 115,298 customers without power, as of 6 am on Tuesday morning. In New York, an estimated 21,000 customers are without power. In the area of Worcester, Brockton, Haverhill, Bridgewater and Fall River in Massachusetts there was still 209,834 customers without power as of 6 am on Tuesday.

Downed trees and debris need to be cleared while the power companies work to restore power. The National Grid also reported disruptions. Throughout Newport & Westerly, Rhode Island, 686 gas customers reported problems related to the flooding.

The PayPal business is being consolidated from nine product groups into a single group. EBay said that reorganizing PayPal will help to improve the product development process.
