The new app will offer entertainment glass-bottomed jet viewing while in flight and a more practical trip-planning itinerary checklist. In addition to their new app, Delta has been improving their website and kiosks.

The airline has invested around $140 million in technology improvements, including a revamping of their Delta.com website in November 2012. The company has also made improvements to their self-service kiosks last September.

San Bernardino Public Library brings Civil War History to Life

(Best Syndication News) - The San Bernardino Public Library will be hosting a Civil War re-enactment celebrating 150 years since Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The library will have free “living history” programs throughout the month of January to bring history alive.

On January 12, 2013, between 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Feldheym Central Library (located at 555 W. 6th Street in San Bernardino) will have American Civil War Society members dressed up as Confederate Soldiers, Union Soldiers, and Civilian Corps from the Civil War era. The American Civil War Society is one of the largest nonprofit groups to reenact this particular historical period in California. The group will also have re-enactors portraying Abraham Lincoln, Mary Todd Lincoln, General and Mrs. Ulysses S. Grant, and General Robert E. Lee. This is a family friendly event and is intended to educate students about Civil War history.

LEGOLAND Hotel to open in San Diego

The new 250-room hotel will offer guests a LEGO themed stay and has around 3,422 LEGO models that will be on display using over three million LEGO bricks. A dragon built out of LEGO bricks will breathe smoke as hotel guests enter.

Construction workers were busy installing the LEGO sculptures recently. Once complete, the hotel rooms will have three different themes. Themes include LEGO knights, pirates, and adventurers. Guest staying in a premium room will have addition choices including LEGO models and decorations such as themed wallpaper.

CalTrans announces Full Nightime Closure of the 91 Freeway in Riverside

(Best Syndication News) – Night-time commuters will be facing a full freeway closure of State Route 91 at 14th street in Riverside later this month. Caltrans announced that the closure will begin on Monday, December 17, 2012 starting at midnight and go through Friday December 21, 2012. The hours of closure will be between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The full freeway closure is to allow for construction workers to complete falsework for the new 14th Street Bridge. During the closures, motorists will need to follow detour signs or find an alternative route. Additionally, commuters will need to add extra time for travel delays.

Chevrolet Volt Car Owners drove over 100 Million Miles on Electricity

The cars can use both electricity and gas, but Volt owners use electricity to power their vehicles in over 65 percent of their trips. The on-board gas-powered generator is used for the longer road trips.

The Chevrolet Volt cars started becoming available on the market in December 2010. In this short time, General Motors estimates that around 5 million gallons of gas have been saved by using electricity to power these cars. Additionally, around $1,370 is saved in fuel expenditures per year for each Chevrolet Volt owner.

GM aims for up to 500,000 Electric and eAssist Vehicles by 2017

Plug-based solutions will play a significant role in our technology portfolio going forward,” said Mary Barra, senior vice president of Global Product Development. She made her comments at the GM Electrification Experience in San Francisco,

Lessons learned from the Chevrolet Volt - which was introduced in 2010 – helped GM develop their Chevrolet Spark EV. The Chevrolet Spark will become available next year in certain US and South Korea markets, with more markets to be announced soon.

6.5 Magnitude Earthquake occurs offshore of Guatemala

(Best Syndication News) - A sizeable 6.5 magnitude and a 5.0 magnitude aftershock shook off the shores of Guatemala this Sunday, November 11, 2012. Many aftershocks have occurred days after a 7.4 earthquake event, which happened on November 7, 2012.

The US Geological Survey reported that the 6.5 magnitude earthquake event occurred at 4:15 p.m. local time on Sunday at 14.164°N, 92.167°W with a depth of 16.8 miles. Residents in the surrounding areas reported feeling light to moderate shaking with very little damage. The earthquake was in the same area as the large 7.4 earthquake.

Starbucks opens First Store in India

The flagship store is located in the historic Elphinstone Building, Horniman Circle, in Mumbai. This 50/50 joint venture will be opening two more Starbucks stores in Mumbai next week; one at Oberoi Mall and another near the Taj Mahal Palace Annexe.

The new stores will have a design and color scheme to match the Indian culture. There will be teakwood furniture, artifacts, and flooring to reflect the locale. The flooring has an artwork pattern that reflects the local culture.

OnStar Service to be available in Mexico starting in 2013

(Best Syndication News) - General Motor’s OnStar service will be available in Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles sold in Mexico starting in 2013. Currently OnStar is available in the United States, Canada, and China.

GM estimates that around 5.5 million subscribers are in the United States since the service was launched in 1996. Two years later, OnStar was launched in Canada, and there are around 428,000 subscribers. In 2009, OnStar was launched in China and there are around 450,000 subscribers there.

Mary Chan, president of Global Connected Consumer, said “OnStar’s expansion into Mexico will make OnStar the preeminent provider of automobile safety and security services in Latin America. This is an important step as we will continue to grow GM’s connected vehicle solutions in other regions of the world in the coming months and years.”

Greyhound offers $1 Bus Fare for East Coast Travelers affected by Bus Company Closures

FAA grants Scaled Composites permit to Launch Suborbital SpaceShipTwo and WhiteKnightTwo

Virgin Galactic is the world’s first commercial spaceline that has the goal of taking private travelers into space.
