Dr. Wilson was named by Meredith Grey as the most promising intern, and was thus awarded the first surgery of the rotation, which is in fact given to interns they think will fail. As expected, she did fail to complete the surgery and while crying about it, Dr. Owen Hunt informed her that it was an exercise meant to be a learning experience. The surgery is "designed" for the chosen intern to fail to set an example for the other interns.

Holly came to Seattle Grace Hospital with her husband, Bill. After a test, Burke discovered that Bill had an ovary. They approach curtain 3 and before pulling the curtain back he says that surgeons don't go home cause of a tickle in their throat. He pulls back the curtain and Rebecca is on the other side. Mark tells Meredith that Ryan has the internal structure to hear, he just doesn't have a canal or external structure. Ryan thought that if he came in and showed him the letters, that Dr. Sloan would feel sorry for him and do the surgery pro bono. Also, people thinks his ears are part of a costume.
