Holiday Gift Guide: Bags for Him

Thu, 08 Dec 2016 13:24:51 PST

For many people, the holiday season means enduring the stress of finding the perfect gift for that special someone. It can be so hard sometimes, even when you know the person really well. So often do I hear people say- What do you get for the guy who has everything? My honest response is that you can never go wrong with a good work or travel bag. Of course this is true for ladies, but guys too like, and on most occasions use everyday, as well. This is why I thought this would be a good time to share with you some of my favorite bags for him. Hopefully it will help you find the perfect gift! Herschel Supply Co. Little America Raven Crosshatch Weave Backpack Available Here at SHOPBOP – $100 Backpacks are making a serious comeback. Guys use them for everything from work to the gym. They are casual, yet the right style still looks professional enough for a laid back office setting. I really like this backpack from Herschel. Thierry Mugler Super Fringe Slim Half-Moon Leather Bag

Thu, 08 Dec 2016 12:40:16 PST

Mugler is a handbag designer that I am not all that familiar with. I honestly can’t think of any of their other handbag styles. Which is surprising because according to their biography, Thierry Mugler has been around since 1974. Apparently, the designer is more well-known for his couture clothing. A quick Google search yielded some interesting images from their fashion shows, which are not my style. Actually, far from my style. However after seeing this super fringe bag that has allowed me to get past all that. In fact, I cannot stop staring at this bag! What do you guys think of the Thierry Mugler Super Fringe Slim Half-Moon Leather Bag? When I say fringe, I am not fooling around. This bag has some impressive Cousin It- inspired fringe. Those strands are almost two feet long- l-i-t-e-r-a-l-l-y! It is amazing to me how an otherwise simple design can take on such a dramatic look. I do like the slim half-moon bag style itself. The rod along the top also gives this piece some rigidity, which I suppose is important if you want to keep that perfect arc of fringe. This is because it helps support and evenly distribute the weight. ...

Anya Hindmarch Georgiana Rubix Cube Giant Pixels Clutch

Tue, 15 Nov 2016 21:44:21 PST

Is it me or does it seem like Anya Hindmarch has been incorporating a lot more color into her handbag collection? Anya has always had a little touch of whimsy, but it seems over the last few years, she has pushed the envelope on many of her purse designs. Smiley faces, patches, playful patterns, fun captions, cool graphics, vibrant colors, and even elements of pop culture have appeared on Anya Hindmarch handbags. However, the piece I have pictured here seems to have taken the whole “colorful” thing literally. The Anya Hindmarch Georgiana Rubix Cube Giant Pixels Clutch is literally a rainbow of colors. They aren’t really arranged in spectrum order, but all of the basic colors are there. The pattern itself though is what I find the most intriguing. The colors are actually individual squares arranged in a V shaped pattern. The word pixels in the name refers to these squares. But, even though this piece is not a cube, the different colored squares sort of remind me of a Rubik’s cube. You know, those frustrating things that tempt you to cheat by removing the stickers from the squares and rearranging them so you can finally get all one color ...

Shearling Handbag Trend- Brunello Cucinelli & Fendi

Mon, 07 Nov 2016 20:53:00 PST

In years past, shearling handbags were popping up left and right around this time. Now that we are officially in Fall, I feel like we should be seeing more shearling bags out there. Right? With so few on store shelves, it’s starting to feel like handbag designers are passing on this classic trend. So what happened to the Shearling Handbag Trend?! Shearling appears on many cozy pieces from vests and coats to scarves and boots. However when it comes to shearling, handbags are by far my favorite. Here are a couple of my favorite picks from the Fall / Winter 2016 collection. Brunello Cucinelli Shearling Monili Bag – Here at Neiman Marcus – $1275 This is one designer we don’t see too often. But Brunello Cucinelli does shearling handbags and they do them very well. I love the shaggier look of this piece, it offers a fresher look than traditional shearling. I also love the contrast created by the beaded strap running down the center. Fendi Peekaboo Shearling Satchel Bag – Here at Neiman Marcus – $7250 Fendi probably has the largest selection of shearling handbags right now. The color-blocking seen on this piece offers a unique look to the ...

Autumn Hues- SALAR Bonnie Bag

Sat, 05 Nov 2016 10:04:40 PDT

I love fall color palettes for their rich and warm tones. I especially love the seasonal hues when it comes to decorating and styling. Fall colors look great on handbags and I think I have a new favorite – Orange! It will give your look a little pop of color without looking too overwhelmingly bright. Also I like to wear earthy tones during the season which orange goes so well with. So now I am on the hunt for a new pumpkin spice orange handbag and I think I found the one – the Bonnie Bag by designers Salar and Francesca. Not familiar with the SALAR? Neither am I! What I do know is that the brand launched in Milan just over 6 years ago, and was quickly recognized by Vogue Italia as an emerging brand to watch. SALAR is all about combining innovative design with time-honored Italian craftsmanship. The result can definitely be seen in the Bonnie Bag! I love the color, of course. But the style itself is gorgeous and unique. The updated hobo styling is both structured and slouchy. And I absolutely adore the tassel and pyramid stud detailing! I see this piece paired with other fall-ready ...

Rebecca Minkoff Laurie Suede Crossbody Bag

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 11:17:48 PDT

Back when the Rebecca Minkoff handbag collection made it’s debut back in 2007 / 2008 I was obsessed, everyone was. The Matinee, Nikki, and Morning After Bag were classics. Do you remember all the minkoff sample sales? Crazy hordes of people would line up just to get one (or 5) of these bags in different colors. Oh how times have changed. I still love Rebecca Minkoff handbags, but not like that anymore. It seems that this designer just hasn’t been the same lately. She went a different direction with her designs…it just isn’t the same. However, every now and then a design does break through the crowd and catch my attention. This is a Rebecca Minkoff style that calls to me. Today I found a gorgeous piece from this designer that really has me excited- Rebecca Minkoff Laurie Crossbody Bag! Just to clarify, this particular version of the Laurie Crossbody Bag is a exclusive. And I can see why! I love this version much better than the flat version found on other sites. There is so much more to this bag than its shape and size though. I am head over heals in love with the colors. You may ...

Two Faced Fendi Ruffle Double Baguette Bag

Wed, 02 Nov 2016 16:57:29 PDT

For the latest season Fendi decided to dress up their iconic Baguette bag with ruffles. Not your typical ruffles, but rather an elegant wave of leather around the edge. It really softens the shape of the bag and adds interest to the design, and gives it a more feminine look. That is what I love so much about these new ruffled pieces. They are pretty, without looking too girly, which is why I love the Fendi Ruffle Double Baguette Bag so much. At first glance it looks like there are two Baguette Bags pictured, but in fact it’s actually two-faced- one side is blue and the other is burgundy. Basically this purse is made of two mini baguette bags attached together with their backs facing each other. So hold it one way and you will have yourself a blue handbag. Hold it the other way and you will have a burgundy handbag. It’s a very unusual design, but of course is what makes it so unique. I think both colors are very complimentary and are very Autumn-worthy. What do you guys think of the Fendi Ruffle Double Baguette Bag? Available Here at Luisa Via Roma $1800

Autumn Worthy Handbag: Michael Kors Helena Satchel

Tue, 01 Nov 2016 21:49:28 PDT

It seems that whenever I hear someone say Michael Kors, they are referring to the diffusion line MICHAEL Michael Kors. When someone asks what designer a particular handbag is, for example, they simply say “Michael Kors” even though it is actually from the diffusion line. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with someone simply saying “Michael Kors.” After all, the diffusion line name is rather redundant, however it seems people have forgotten that the luxury line even exists. Maybe this is why Marc Jacobs decided to merge his luxury and diffusion lines together under one label? I know that I, for one, have not forgotten there are Michael Kors Collection pieces still out there. Just take a look at the lovely handbag you see here. It’s the Michael Kors Collection Helena Large Satchel! Oh my, this piece is gorgeous! I love the structured satchel styling. For some reason, it just has an aura of sophistication that surrounds it. I also love the burnished calfskin leather. The color is so rich, it reminds me of a western saddle (without all the embossing). I think it would be great for the fall season. It’s just so warm and inviting, how ...

Tom Ford Fisherman Hook Hobo Bag

Mon, 31 Oct 2016 13:35:51 PDT

If you have ever read my previous BagBliss handbag blogs, Tom Ford is not a designer I write about all that often. To be honest I don’t think that Tom Ford’s namesake handbag line is as popular as their clothing and shoes. Nevertheless, I will see a style every once in awhile that really catches my eye and that is exactly what is happening here with the Fisherman Hook Hobo Bag Tom Ford’s Fall 2016 Bag Collection is said to be inspired by heroines of the late ’50s and early ’60s films – Kim Novak in Vertigo, Tippi Hedren in “The Birds,” and Grace Kelly in “To Catch A Thief.” When I look at this particular piece, I don’t really see that. What I do see is a simplicity that could only come from Tom Ford and unique details that couldn’t possibly be Tom Ford. Is that even possible? Apparently it is! I really like the unusual hardware on this piece. Oddly, the Neiman Marcus description says “fisherman hook”. I certainly wouldn’t call it a fisherman hook. It looks very much like a clevis fastener instead, which I suppose is sometimes used in sailing but I’m still confused where the ...

Fall Neutral Gray Handbag Trend- Phillip Lim and Michael Kors

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 12:45:52 PDT

As much as I detest the cold and dreary winter months, I’m okay with the Fall season. I wouldn’t say that I enjoy it, but there are some fun fashion pieces that return each fall season. There are rain-boots and booties; cozy sweaters and plush vests; and of course scarves and gloves. The fall season is also filled with something else – deep hues and rich colors. Dark reds, burnt oranges, mustard yellows, and browns dominate the color landscape this time of year. While I do love these colors, sometimes I want something a little more neutral. One neutral shade that looks great no matter the season, is gray. Whether it’s a light gray or a rich charcoal, gray is an awesome color that will go with just about anything. So now that I have gray handbags on my mind, I spent some time this morning browsing the various online boutiques and this is what I found. A couple favorites by Phillip Lim and Michael Kors. 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Medium Leather Satchel in Charcoal - $975A classic. The Pashli is one of my all-time favorite satchel styles. I love the flap closure and zippered gussets. It is absolutely gorgeous in this ...
