Bob Talbert's White Chili

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 19:48:40 +0000

Bob Talbert was a columnist for the Detroit Free Press for 31 years. He created this recipe and included it in one of his columns. It was so good that a friend asked his permission to add it to his restaurant's menu. I've seen a couple of recipes here that look like his but don't include the same seasoning amounts that I got from his recipe. The 2 teaspoons of ground cumin and 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne are supposed to be "heaping". It is possible that the version of his recipe I cut out of the newspaper was a later one that he'd improved upon. Personal note: I never bake or microwave the chicken breasts. Poaching them in simmering water works much better. I also use "Better Than Bouillon" for the chicken broth (never buy chicken base that lists salt as the first ingredient). I wanted to post the recipe exactly as Bob Talbert wrote it so I included his baking instruction. You can really speed up the process by cutting the raw chicken into bite-sized cubes and adding along with the chicken broth. -- posted by Redox

Better Butterbeer (Alcoholic)

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 19:49:37 +0000

As avid Harry Potter fans, we have been seeking out a good Butterbeer recipe since we read about it over ten years ago. After trying the Butterbeer at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, we were in love-- specifically with the topping-- but were unable to find a recipe that was similar. We tried numerous recipes, tried all sorts of toppings, and nothing was quite right. So, we began to experiment. I am so pleased to say that we finally found something that is just as good (if not better) than the Butterbeer served in Orlando, and we want to share it with everyone! -- posted by Edward G.

This recipe was crafted to meet some specific pickiness. I don't care much for a lot of onion or any green peppers, and my bf is not a fan of beans, so this is the chili we ended up with. But as any tasty chili just starts with a good idea and gets modified to suit your preferences, here's just another idea out there! Marlee's Diner Vegan Burgers

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 19:54:51 +0000

This recipe is a family recipe that has been perfected by my dad, only by doing it over fifteen times to make sure it tasted delicious enough for our diner. Because this recipe is for a diner, it makes a huge amount. I’m talking enough for, literally, a whole restaurant full of hungry people. Make sure to cut this recipe down accordingly to prevent having fifty burgers shoved into your freezer. These burgers have a wonderful smoky and nutty flavor that goes well with any type of burger! A classic burger with onions, cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce, or you can opt for a more complex burger such as Cordon Blue or mushroom and swiss. The best part about these burgers is that once the patties are made, they freeze really well and if you’re hankering for a burger, you can simply throw the frozen patty right on a hot pan. The actual recipe of this burger is also very customizable; instead of walnuts, you can do another nut, such as almonds. You can also add in some ketchup instead of Worcestershire Sauce, or even Sriracha to make the patties a little or a lot spicy. If you’re feeling like a true chef, add in a few more spices to make the flavor really strong. -- posted by Marlee M.

Tom Kha Gai

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 19:54:58 +0000

This classic chicken and coconut soup gets its rich and dynamic flavor from quintessential Thai ingredients: coconut milk, lemongrass, fresh galangal, lime juice, fish sauce, While warming and thoroughly comforting, this dish comes together incredibly quickly. Of course, it's even better the next day after the flavors have had time to rest and fully meld within the thick and satisfying, savory-sweet broth. Just saying--doubling this recipe to guarantee leftovers wouldn't be a terrible idea. -- posted by Soup for You
