Noertker's Moxie - druidh lacunae

Tue, 20 Oct 2009 06:43:43 PDT

01 - What the Water Gave Me
02 - Virágé

Bill Noertker, the druidh, paints musical portraits of the natural and supernatural world — the mysterious beauty of the giraffe; the funky gait of the white elephant; the fantastic denizens of Frida Kahlo's bath; a flower blooming in the snow in the High Tatras; the proud yet clumsy birds of Athens; the tragedy of the Nevada desert. These portraits have intentional lacunae, blank spaces or missing parts, that are filled by the impressionistic and expressionistic musings of the inspired musicians of Noertker's Moxie.
In the last decade, Bill Noertker has composed over 150 original pieces of music for jazz ensemble. His compositions point to the continuity between the jazz tradition and the avant-garde. His use of group improvisation and his attention to the individual voices of each of his band mates call forth the human element so sorely missing from much of today’s jazz.

Kona Triangle - Sing a New Sapling into Existence

Sat, 26 Sep 2009 14:21:25 PDT

Track: Pinchbeck

Kona Triangle is the combined forces of UK based musicians, Keaver & Brause and Lone. They create electronic music that fits well outside any electronic dance genre by bringing odd time signatures to warbling synthesizers and floating melodies. Truly organic sounding, the music of Kona Triangle feels like warm waves of electronic bliss rolling over your mind and taking over your body. If you are looking for something new and different in electronic music, look no further. Highly recommended!

The Nash Ensemble - Brahms: The String Quintets

Mon, 17 Aug 2009 06:30:18 PDT

01 - String Quintet No. 1 in F, Op. 88 Second movement
02 - String Quintet No. 2 in G, Op. 111 First movement

Although settled in the bustling musical centre of Vienna by 1869, Brahms nevertheless favoured more peaceful rural retreats during the summer months. One such venue, Bad Ischl in Upper Austria, proved so inspiring that Brahms returned there a number of times. It was at Ischl that Brahms wrote the F major String Quintet, op.88, and the G major Quintet, op.111 — works separated by a span of eight years, but both composed when Brahms was at the height of his powers.

Dave Liebman with the Manhattan School of Music Jazz Orchestra - Sketches of Spain

Tue, 11 Aug 2009 05:55:37 PDT

01 - Concierto De Aranjuez (Adagio)
02 - Will O' The Wisp

Jazzheads is proud to be releasing Sketches of Spain featuring Dave Liebman. Dave says Sketches of Spain is his all time favorite piece of music. For the majority of the pieces Liebman employs his soprano saxophone; on the final movement he also picks up his tenor. Dave did here what an artist must do in certain situations. He dared. One doesn't have to compare his version of Sketches of Spain with Miles Davis' recording. That recording has long been a classic and will continue to be so. Liebman's version deserves to be considered on its own merits. This recording has a voice of its own.
