Have you ever tried HP sauce. You can get it at the international market. it is from england. It is a great steak sauce and it is delicious. It is like A1 but better imo. I miss having an international market close to home.

Invest in a camera tripod, and put plastic over the shutter button = no hand washing every time to take a picture, cheers.

I wonder how it would turn out in stoneware... :) Isn't it awesome how simple cornbread is to make, but it's just the best-tasting stuff ever? Love it with real butter and good honey. Going to have to look into White Lily!

Jamie: You're welcome. I really wish I could remember where this recipe came from... The ingredients are so simple that I've been making it for almost 15 years from a scribbled piece of paper. I would guess a White Lily Cornmeal mix bag, but the recipe on my bag is different.

I do think the White Lily makes the best cornbread, there aren't many food items I order online.

I am so glad you posted this and that I found it. I've made it four or five times this week. I am from that little town that makes Lodge cast iron. My Gramma passed many years ago, I couldn't even pick up her cast iron skillet, though I did inherit it. I do remember vividly the cornbread she would make me.

This is it. This is it many times over. I knew as soon as saw the ingredients (she would never use anything except white lily). I just want to say thank you, without this recipe I think it would be lost for me and the family I have now created.

similar to a recipe i've used for years. i'm on the salty, not sweet, cornbread faction, so i only use 1 T honey and 1 to 1-1/2 tsp. salt. i also use baking soda (1-1/2 tsp). i sometimes give it a soutthwestern kick with a little ground cumin and cayenne; or some chopped chives when they are overabundant in my garden (as they are now); or all of the above.

I'd love to try these, and I *don't don't don't* make bread. However, I adore bagels and love that these aren't fried. Maybe someday.

Gorgeous pics and wonderful directions, as usual!

I had to laugh when I saw this title - I immediately thought ANNE SHIRLEY!! How fun. I also love the books and this is one series that turned out well on screen. Of course I saw Anne and Diana stumbling around in my head as I was reading the post. :) Thanks for sharing, will have to give this one a shot!

Finally, a recipe I can use my skimmer for... I got it free from one of my PC shows, and it has been used one whole time. I've had it for at least a year and a half. Following Flylady rules, I would have to get rid of it! :) I don't know if that rule should apply to kitchen tools, do you? Anyway will have to give this a shot on a weekend when I am feeling ambitious. Thanks!

Zeeeeee Bird!!! ,-)

If yours had red, and Mere's has red, and mine did not - seems different birds are "driven" to do this nutty "banging to get in" thing. And I did notice that a couple of other of Mere's commenters, had it happen to them once upon a time. Weird hu? Perhaps we could start a little discussion of this weird effect, somehow?

Then again, we were soooooooo happy when it stopped, that none of us probably want to think about it - after it stops.

Yes, it was very upsetting to me, after a while. Plus, ding-dang bird woke up earlier than we did. And hearing it banging on some random window, at the 'crack of dawn,' was no fun either. You feel like you're under attack, from Nature. Kind of like that old flick 'The Birds.' Eeeeeek! :-)

My heart goes out to you, during this. And I really hope it stops soon. For whatever reason. Like I said, when it stops, we are so relieved, we want to forget it. -grin- But I'm still over in 'Aunt Amelia's Attic,' any time you want to vent. Mmmmm, would that be called "Bird Venting"? -giggles-

Sure! you are saying. _She_ can joke. _She_ doesn't have the bird attack going on now. -sigh-

Hugs,
'Aunt Amelia'

OT, but... I just saw your comment in 'The Things We Carried' blog... She was writing about a nutty bird, which wants "in" to her home.

You have one. We had one. But before her post, I'd never seen anyone else who had!

You said yours has been around for about a week. Seems ours was too, one Spring. It had no red color on it though, like hers has. Ours was all shades of gray. And we thought it was a Mockingbird.

Why it did it, we never found out. It banged its wings on windows, both upstairs and down, and I was ready to pull my hair out too. Like you sound ready to. Poor you and your family.

Can't give you any tips. He finally just stopped. -sigh- So I hope yours will too, and soon.

Maybe you'll come over to 'Aunt Amelia's Attic' blog and tell me, when he does go away. Which for your sake, I hope is very, very soon.

Gentle hugs,
'Aunt Amelia'

I'd be curious to know what her recipe was, my amounts are all sort of ball parks based on what I threw in, and my seasonings are always just to taste.

YUMMY, grams always made this soup with cornbread when I was little. I haven't had it in years. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
