2008-10-07T15:08:00.000-04:00

daedalus: It's not accurate to say Obama "hung out" with Raines -- though I'm guessing you're taking poetic license. Nor is it right, as McCain claims, that Raines was ever an advisor to the Obama campaign.

The Washington Post concludes:
"The McCain campaign is clearly exaggerating wildly in attempting to depict Raines as a close adviser to Obama on 'housing and mortgage policy.' If we are to believe Raines, he did have a couple of telephone conversations with someone in the Obama campaign. But that hardly makes him an adviser to the candidate himself -- and certainly not in the way depicted in the McCain video release."

Looking forward to the debate... hope they keep their suits clean.

I think it was a brilliant move on Barack's part because Winky and Wrinkly had been used to criticism Barack for so long without a response that he straight pulled out a "gotcha" moment on them. Totally deflating Palin's moxie.

It was smart. Now they'll think twice about the things that they say because Obama's camp has got the goods on them. They gave the McWheaties camp enough rope to hang themselves. Like I said "Brilliant."

It forces McCain to once again focus on the issues at hand. Cause Palin is a hot steamy mess of Personal baggage. That includes her husband's membership to an Alaskan group who wanted to succeed from the United States.

Obam'a not the perfect candidtate; but I'll be damn if he hasn't run one of the most tightest, effective campaigns this nation has ever seen.

@rorysmama So, is it also ok to ask what Barack has learned about the mortgage crisis since he hung out with Raines?

@black diaspora Right on. The fact is, McCain was exonerated. However the fact that he got sucked in as far as he did is as big a concern to me as some of Obama's dealings.

We call McCain and others in the Senate and the House our representatives.

One definition of representative is this:

"One that serves as an example or type for others of the same classification."

How much do the people we elect to represent us an example of us?

McCain was reelected to the senate many times. His constituents either didn't believe the charges, or didn't care about the charges.

Either way, his offense never rose to that level of impropriety that would have assured his ouster from the senate.

Until we change, the U.S. Congress will remain the same.

2008-10-07T01:20:00.000-04:00

"...if Miss Sarah starts poppin' sh*t about Rebb'n Wright again, we're gonna have a real problem.
". I wonder. Hasn't Rev. Wright been done to death already? Besides, Miss Sarah has been caught on tape w/ some pretty twisted preacher men.

People don't seem to be responding well to the negativity in debates. Hope to god it's true on the stump/airwaves too.

Someone here said recently that Sarah P. is ignorant -- and she doesn't even know how ignorant she is. So true. But it's worse than that. You can overcome ignorance by learning. She lacks a basic aptitude for complexity -- and you can't learn that. It causes her not only to fail to grasp much, but also to make ham-fisted statements that (among other things) let her blind ambition show (bar was too high for local sportscasting, maybe political office will work out). Like a color-blind person becoming an interior designer (or something). When the rest of the world sees what you don't -- eventually, it'll bite you in the butt. Or in the Achilles heel, if you will.

Or not. I've overestimated the American electorate before.

As for McCain, if he doesn't win (even if he does), will he ever recover from the self-destruction of his once-perceived honor and judgment?

This is both the best and worst of politics in my voting memory.

2008-10-06T22:46:00.000-04:00

I think the big machine behind political campaigns is marketing. Their goal is to get something, anything that will resonate with people. The GOP like to play on "fears," as seen by saying Barack "pals around with terrorists." We all know the "terrorist" is a red light in this country. Anyway, I think it's too bad that the candidates can't stay on the issues, but I believe what Palin has been saying will come back to bite them. Because now of course Obama's team is going to come back with something. How about McCain's passion for gambling, and his association with the casino lobbyists? It could be said that a gambler is not fit to handle the economy of this country.

Its quite relevant. It shows McCain had a weakness and lapse of judgement.

I say put it all out there.

It's pretty obvious that that FOX and friends are pretty desperate and looking for another angle in this election. Just sit back and watch them put a foot in their mouths. There's a serious divide in this country and it goes way beyond race!

rorysmomma makes a great point. I don't think attacking character is such a good strategy for ole Johnny Mac. He's got more questionable associations than Obama. He'd better tread lightly if he doesn't want those brought up. He killed his own campaign when he selected Sarah, "So, I was reading my Starbucks cup the other day" Palin. The fact that she has $4 to spend on a Vendi latte, at a time when most folks are rolling coins trying to scrape up the same amount to put a gallon of gas in their car in order to make it to a job interview, is apparently enough to piss off "Joe Six-pack" to the point of reconsidering voting for the ticket. Obama is gaining in the polls. It will be interesting to see what McCain dredges up in Tuesday's debate.

2008-10-06T18:54:00.000-04:00

It is relevant. I am not mad at Barack at all. The keating 5 scandal is relevant. It has to do with mccain's views on the economic process. Considering that he felt he was dooped by his misunderstanding of the economy, and add to that the fact that he hasn't learned much about it since is all relevant. Go Barack! If Barack had been involved in something like that..... It would be played all the time. It ain't mudslinging if it is true.

2008-10-06T18:48:00.000-04:00

A few of his greatest indictments:

1. Phil "Loophole" Gramm as his top financial adviser and buddy until Gramm ticked off everyone by calling Americans 'whiners' and lost that job.
2. His saying long ago that he didn't know much about the economy, and then proving it by the economy is fundamentally sound, only to have SHTF and change position in the span of one week.
3. Lesser crime: if can't remember how many houses he has, how can expect to keep track of the money?

2008-10-06T17:05:00.000-04:00

Voters being sick of this form of politics is exactly why both John and Barack are here... and now they want to do the same thing?! Do all politicians eventually succumb to the low road?

Barack should focus on the fact that McCain and Palin have no idea what to do about the crisis- since the ideology of deregulation (perpetuated by both parties) is the GOPs economic stance and the root of the problem.

McCain will have to contradict this stance if he plans on fixing the crisis. Bush did already with the bailout bill.

About time.

It's not that this type of campaigning is really effective, but if you ignore it, It can become a real issue (e.g., Rev. Wright).

So it's good that McCain will have to waste energy.

Reminds me of the song You Reap What You Sow lol
