Sent you an email. I know you remember her. I won't say anymore.

@ Inq Mind

..you know we have a mutual friend that reminds you of the girl in the cowboy hat...

Refresh my memory. Write the name in code if you need to protect the innocent.

@ ruffian

Welcome.

@ Von

Ok, maybe I was a bit hard on those Rik Cordero videos. They beat "Vivrant Thing" anyday. So, okay, props for originality.

@ MissJay

Yeah, "Breathe and Stop" was "clubby" too. I liked both back when I actually was in clubs, but neither got any run in my Walkman.

@ Zen

Cop that.

@ Serafina

"Vivant Thang" is Tip's best song?!? You're kidding right?

N.E.R.D. is okay. I'm no Pharrell fan, but I still listen to their first album.

Yeah I got this CD on my IPOD and it's nice. He took it back to the 90's and that's when they were good (ATCQ). Between them and The Roots, I could listen to old stuff for a while.

Vibrant Thang - you know we have a mutual friend that reminds you of the girl in the cowboy hat, let's just say that had me thinking about getting her a cowboy hat and some high heel boots.

1988 senior year Garvey High, where all the guys were corny but the girls were mad fly,....Like Butter baby!!

This is a great album...I've been listening to it for a while. ATCQ was one of my favorite groups back in the day and "The Low End Theory" is one of the best albums ever made, hip-hop or otherwise. It was in heavy rotation in the PBG Sony Walkman circa 1991!

I liked a couple of songs by TCQ, just dont ask me the names of them.

"Vibrant Thing", i'll have to put that on my ipod, is Q-Tip's best song, I think.

I actually like more as a person than a rapper. Anyone that doesnt have to grab his crotch or call a woman a B every 2 seconds, has my respect.

I can't wait until everyone starts recognizing N.E.R.D. as a great group.

Thanks for the review. I now know it will be worth the money. I too loved Tribe. Ah, the 90's....we really did rule then...Seems like entertainment wise, we've taken a step backward...

I loved A Tribe Called Quest in my 20's. I always think about hip-hop kind of wistfully when I remember that time. (Still play the first three albums from time to time.) I heard about the new album on NPR, of all places, but haven't checked it out yet. I'm loving that second song. Thanks for the heads up!

Having a DJ for a significant other I knew he had a CD out. Haven't checked it out yet though.

Speaking of "Vivrant Thang", was it just me or did "Breathe and Stop" sound almost just like "Vivrant Thang"?

Thanks for dedicating a post to Tip (I agree, there's only one)--he and Tribe were the soundtrack to my early college & young adult years...one of the best who ever did it.

For me, I just go w/ Tip on GP--of course I like certain cuts better than others, but for me he always more or less delivers. I thought Kamaal the Abstract was good (save for a couple of "weird" tracks)--and I could even appreciate "Amplified" for its "clubbanger" factor (although I was NOT feeling Tip's whole "shiny" phase, lol.)

But, okay--re. his "Move" video...er, clearly it's *purposely* retro, AB--to me it came off as a tongue-in-cheek nod to Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" video. It ain't for everyone, but I actually liked the retro-ness.

"The even worse video for 'Gettin Up'," though? Hello...are we watching the same one? I dug it a lot, sometimes less is more. Dang, AB--what was it you were looking for, lol. This was definitely the better of the two.

I knew, already have a few songs from it on my Ipod. Great blog by the way.
