Security update: Video Mémoires 1.1

2016-01-30T00:00:00Z

We have released an important security update for our video diary software for Mac, Video Mémoires 1.1.

This update replaces insecure connections to our servers when checking for update with encrypted secure HTTPS connections, addressing recently disclosed vulnerabilities related to the use of Sparkle framework with insecure connections.

Mac App store version of Video Mémoires is not affected, as it doesn’t use Sparkle framework.

How to upgrade

This update is free for all users of Video Mémoires. You will be asked to upgrade the next time the program checks for updates, however we recommend updating manually by downloading the latest version from our website: https://www.codingrobots.com/videomemoires/

If you purchased Video Mémoires from Mac App Store, you don’t have to do anything.

Note about Mémoires

Mémoires has been switched to secure updating since version 4.5 (released in 2014), so it is not vulnerable. If you use earlier unsupported version, please upgrade to the latest one as soon as possible.

Mémoires 4.5.1 released

2015-03-17T00:00:00Z

We have released an update for our diary software for Mac, Mémoires 4.5.1.

What’s New

  • Added exact searches (surround your whole search query with quote marks to search for the exact phrase). Previous version introduced improved search by splitting quieries into words. Some users wanted the exact search back, so in this release we introduced it back: for example, to search for why me, but not for why not me, type “why me”, including quotes.

  • Fixed black sidebar background in Yosemite if “Reduce transparency” accessibility setting was on.

How to upgrade

This update is free for all users of Mémoires 4. You will be asked to upgrade the next time the program checks for updates, or you can do it manually from the program by clicking Mémoires → Check for Updates… in the top menu.

If you don’t have Mémoires installed, please download the program from its product page: http://www.codingrobots.com/memoires/

Video: How to start writing a journal on your Mac with Mémoires

2014-12-24T00:00:00Z

We have posted a new short video on our YouTube channel, which shows how to get started writing a journal with Mémoires.

Please share this video with your friends who don’t keep a journal yet, who are thinking about starting one, or who are using inconvenient tools for writing it.

Mémoires 4.5 released

2014-12-16T00:00:00Z

We have released a new version of our diary software for Mac, Mémoires 4.5.

What’s New

  • New look optimized for OS X 10.10 Yosemite. It’s less cluttered and looks great in the new OS X, as well as in the previous versions of Apple’s operating system. (Also, the app now has a new icon!)

  • Improved search. The program now splits queries into words before searching, so it’s now possible to find an entry containing “awesome vegan lunch” by looking for “awesome lunch”, while previous versions required entering the exact phrase.

  • Updates via HTTPS. While automatic updates were already secure by relying on digital signatures, in this version, in addition to signatures, we turned on Transport Layer Security for improved confidentiality.

  • We fixed bugs, such as editor losing focus during saving, slow typing with a lot of text or images, and many other smaller issues.

How to upgrade

This update is free for all users of Mémoires 4.0. You will be asked to upgrade the next time the program checks for updates, or you can do it manually from the program by clicking Mémoires → Check for Updates… in the top menu.

If you don’t have Mémoires installed, please download the program from its product page: http://www.codingrobots.com/memoires/

Happy holidays! We hope you’ll enjoy journaling in 2015 with the fresh new Mémoires.

Introducing Journalite

2014-03-03T00:00:00Z

We are happy to announce the first beta release of our new product – Journalite! It’s a fresh approach to diary/journaling software on Windows.

When we first released Mémoires, our Mac diary app, back in 2007, we received a lot of requests from Windows users, who liked its simplicity and elegant interface, to make similar program for PC. We still receive such requests in 2014, and now we have the answer!

(image)

Journalite is a new app written from scratch using the cutting-edge technologies. Our experience in making diary software led us to re-think a lot of details, and we think we have the easiest to use and very powerful application for writing journals on Windows. (Even though some features we’d like to have are missing, they’ll be added soon).

But it’s just the beginning! We’re releasing the first early beta version today so that you can start writing your diary right now and give us feedback.

Update: we decided to discontinue Journalite. It is no longer available.

Mémoires 4.0 released

2013-12-21T12:00:00Z

We are happy to announce the release of Mémoires 4, the new major version of our easy-to-use journaling app for Mac OS X! The new version is available for download exclusively from our website. Here are highlights of what’s new in this major version: Fresh new look. Mémoires 4 comes with the improved and modernized user interface, which wastes less screen space and has better usability. Search field is now closer to search results; password field is integrated into the journal window. Improved security. Encrypted journals now use AES-256 encryption with a key derived from the supplied password using the state-of-the-art scrypt key derivation function, which makes bruteforcing passwords very difficult and costly. After encryption, journals are authenticated with the fast and secure keyed BLAKE2 hash function to prevent malicious modification of encrypted journals. Mémoires 4 will automatically convert your journals to the new encryption scheme when you open them. Native autosave and versions. Mémoires now uses the native OS X autosave and versions feature, which means that your journals are now automatically and constantly backed up by Time Machine, and you no longer need to save your journals explicitly. Native full screen. The new version comes with improved full screen support, which uses the native full screen feature of OS X. You no longer need to switch between a window and full screen modes to use the calendar or search for entries. Keyboard navigation. You can now navigate through the calendar with arrow keys on your keyboard. Pressing Return after editing entry title will let you switch to editing the entry content. Faster Spotlight indexing. We rewrote the Spotlight indexer and made it so fast that we removed the option to disable it: it will be used automatically for non-encrypted journals, as it no longer slows down the saving. Go To Date. Now when you want to go to a specific date, you no longer need to click on the arrows in calendar — just click View > Go To Date… and enter the date to jump to. “Insert” menu. It is now easier to insert links, quick drawings, or images by using the new Insert menu. …and lots of other small tweaks, improvements, and bug fixes. Mémoires 4 is a native Cocoa 64-bit application and is compatible with the following OS X versions: 10.7 Lion, 10.8 Mountain Lion, and 10.9 Mavericks. You can download the new version from Mémoires page on our website. Existing customers can upgrade for a discounted price. (Customers who purchased Mémoires from our website after October 1, 2013 will get the new version for free.) Happy holidays! Start writing your diary in 2014 with the new Mémoires! Update: we released a small update, 4.0.1, which addresses a few issues found in 4.0. [...]

Mémoires 3.1 released

2011-01-08T12:00:00Z

Mémoires 3.1 is a minor update that adds ARC4-64 encryption algorithm to make the program compatible with the version that will soon appear in the Mac App Store.

The initial version that was available in the App Store had no encryption, because we haven’t yet done the paperwork required by US Government. Today we have sent an update to this version that includes ARC4 encryption with 64-bit key, which complies with export restrictions.

The version that is now available from our website has both AES-128 (stronger) and ARC4-64 encryption algorithms.

Summary:

  • If you bought Mémoires from our website, you will have both algorithms available once you update the program by clicking Mémoires > Check for Updates.
  • If you bought Mémoires from the Mac App Store, you will have ARC4-64 algorithm available once Apple approves the new version.

Update (2010-01-25): The updated version with ARC4-64 encryption has been approved and is available from Mac App Store. Please launch App Store, click “Updates” and update Mémoires.
