Profile: West of the Shore

Wed, 20 Apr 2011 14:44:57 UTC

2011-04-20T16:14:44Z

Based out of Harrisburg, West of the Shore tours the country, bringing their version of Americana to the stage where they strive to put on intimate shows filled with energy, honesty and great tunes.

Formed in 2008, the duo West of the Shore features Nicole Coutlangus on vocals, guitar and percussion, and Joe Gualtier on vocals, guitar, mandolin, harmonica and banjo. Together, they blend folk roots music and vocal harmony with country, bluegrass and blues influences.

After just a year of playing together, Nicole and Joe moved to Bearsville, NY, in the heart of the Catskill Mountains. "We moved up there because of the history. Bob Dylan, The Band, Van Morrison all lived up there in the 60's and made great music. We just wanted to experience a little bit of that," says Joe. It was during those first winter months that they realized how much music was really going to play a part in their lives. "We were up there, it was cold and dark in the middle of winter. We had no phone, no tv, no computer, and no heat. All we had was a piano and before we knew it we were playing Beatles tunes and singing in two part harmonies," says Nicole.

It was in those mountains that West of the Shore truly came into its own. Songs of lost love, adventure and times past were written during those cold nights, as their unique vocal harmony also began to blossom.

Now based out of Harrisburg, Pa., West of the Shore tours the country, bringing their version of Americana to the stage where they strive to put on intimate shows filled with energy, honesty and great tunes.

Profile: Get The Led Out

Get The Led Out will be playing at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 16. Photo Courtesy Of Get The Led OutPaul Sinclair of Get The Led Out Get The Led Out is a group of professional musicians who are passionate about their love of the music of Led Zeppelin. It's been their mission to bring the studio recordings of "the mighty Zep" to life on the big concert stage. This is not an impersonator act but rather a group of musicians who were fans first, striving to do justice to one of the greatest bands in rock history. Get The Led Out will be playing locally at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 16. Tickets are $25.50 and $28.50. Get to know the band's members: Paul Sinclair - Lead Vocalist Lead vocalist Paul Sinclair has been performing on the east coast for over 20 years. He and long-time friend/guitarist Paul Hammond have taken their original hard rock group Sinclair to countless venues and released two full-length albums (they are currently working on a third). Sinclair, at one time managed by radio promo legend Joe Reagoso (Warner/Elektra/Atlantic, MCA, RCA), has played many high profile shows and shared the bill with such notable acts as Foghat, Zebra, Savoy Brown, The Bullet Boys, Kevin Dubrow (Quiet Riot), David Ruffin of The Temptations and many more. Sinclair, a BMI affiliated songwriter, is also an engineer/producer who, along with Hammond, owns Fat City Studios just outside of Philadelphia, Pa. Paul’s engineering, production and mastering credits can be found on countless independent and national releases worldwide. Sinclair’s influences are varied, though there are two musical legends whose impact on him is undeniable. Besides the obvious role that Robert Plant’s work has played in shaping Sinclair’s vocal stylings, there is one other stand-out influence -- Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. So much so that Paul appeared on national television when he was chosen to perform as Tyler on the Dick Clark Production “Your Big Break.” Paul Hammond – Guitarist, Mandolin Player Paul Hammond’s history in the music business is rather extensive. A professional guitarist, producer, engineer and songwriter, he is also an accomplished electronics technician. Hammond’s life resembles that of some of the greatest technician/musicians of all time, including Les Paul, Jimmy Page and Brian May. From writing a song to performing it, engineering the recording session while producing it, building custom amplifiers and effects pedals to play through on it, as well as rebuilding and maintaining the mixing consoles and tape machines used to record it... Paul Hammond does it all. Past projects: As a result of Hammond’s association with Paul Sinclair and the 90s music scene in Philadelphia, he ended up doing work for Studio 4 owners Phil and Joe Nicolo, of Ruffhouse/Sony/Columbia fame. “I would show up to do some tech work, and they would be working on the most amazing tracks like the Rolling Stones or Aerosmith, and they would show me all the techniques they were using to get that hit quality sound - I love those guys,” said Hammond. As a result of this association, Paul ended up working for Ted Greenberg at the now legendary Big Zone Audio, which was housed in the same Studio 4 complex. Paul would rebuild Ted's vintage API mixing console, play some guitar and work with bands and musicians that they were recording at the time. Other past projects include writing and playing guitar tracks on Time Warner and Comcast radio and TV commercials for Chris Zurzolo at D4TV of Philadelphia. One of the commercials Hammond played on was broadcast regionally during the 2006 Super Bowl. Current projects: Paul often works at Rob HymanR[...]

2010-05-27T15:05:56Z

The Burning State is winning audiences over with tight rhythms, guitar and emotive vocals.

(image)

The Burning State is a three-piece rock band featuring Mike Musson on lead vocals and bass guitar, Jason DeLorenzo on lead guitar and background vocals, and Devon Leighty on percussion and background vocals.

Started as an acoustic coffeehouse band in August 2006, The Burning State has evolved into one of the most announced bands in central Pennsylvania, winning audiences over with tight rhythms, guitar and emotive vocals.

Playing primarily original material, the band is inspired by a variety of sources, as evidenced in their diverse cover selections which feature a mixture of artists such as the Foo Fighters, Louis Armstrong, Survivor and Outkast.

In 2008 the band debuted their first full-length album "From Out of the Ashes," which was met with much excitement.

Now, receiving local radio airplay and with shows lining up, The Burning State is seeking to expand their audience. For additional information contact TheBurningState@yahoo.com or send a message via myspace.com/theburningstate.
