This charming Utah resort is where you go to disconnect. With cottages surrounded by well-kept lawns and gardens that weave throughout the property, the best part about a stay here is your access to the Homestead Crater. Yes, a real crater sits on the premises of this resort and is a must-see sight. Once you’re inside the geothermal crater, which is surrounded by 55 foot tall Limestone walls, you can actually scuba dive, swim or just have a relaxing standup paddleboard yoga session. The water stays at a constant 90 –96 degrees Fahrenheit, so there’s that to look forward to.
The perfect nook can be hard to find, but once you’ve found it, it’s like finding paradise. Not to mention, this nook is already in paradise. Steps from the sand and a waiter or waitress ready with cocktails at your beck and call, this first come, first served area of The Cape resort is the perfect sunset oasis.
Every evening guests are invited to the most beautiful point on Peter Island to watch a sunset like only the British Virgin Islands can do. Named Sunset Loop, this area is perched on a high, remote part of the 1,800 acre private island (the hotel will kindly transport you here), where you’ll take in uninterrupted views of Peter Island, the Caribbean Sea and the surrounding islands. Complete with champagne, wine and cheese, like every sunset party should be, this is the one thing that returning guests always make a point to experience – which means it must be good.
A 20 minute walk to the neighbor next door, this area isn’t technically on the Six Senses Douro Valley property, but it’s close and cool enough that it still deserves to be on this list. Why? Because the Quinta do Mourão has a Port cellar on top of the mountain that overlooks the hotel with some of the best Port you’ll ever taste. Huge wooden vats, some more than 100 years old, help make up Port Knox, one of the coolest wine cellars full of ageing Ports you’ll ever set foot in. The owner will give you a private tour around the cellar, even giving you the chance to taste one of those century year old Ports I mentioned above. Now that’s a Port experience.
There’s no thrill that compares to flying through the air the first time you learn how to do the flying trapeze. Guided by expert Cirque du Soleil-trained instructors, there’s a whole area designed to be enjoyed by adults (and kids too, of course) with more than 25 acrobatic and artistic activities including the flying trapeze and an acrobatic bungee. Think of it as your vacation playground on steroids. (There’s also an adult-only pool and hot tub not too far away when you’re done feeling like a kid again and your body needs some extra help recovering.)
Take in Bellagio from afar from the Grand Hotel Tremezzo’s pool within a lake, or as the hotel calls it, Water on the Water. Just in front of the hotel’s private beach, their signature floating pool rests right on Lake Como’s surface, offering a crystal-clear oasis that has seamlessly become one with the scenery around it.
