Story works to pair strong arm with power bat

Sun, 26 Mar 2017 17:15:16 EDT

Rockies shortstop Trevor Story's strong throwing would be his calling card, if not for his habit of hitting home runs -- 27 in 2016, a National League rookie record at his position. But Story notes that he cares as much for his arm as his bat.

Ottavino isn't fazed by usual spring struggles

Sun, 26 Mar 2017 18:10:00 EDT

Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino has walked a career-high seven this spring, against 10 strikeouts. It's a strikeout-to-walk rate that won't be acceptable during the regular season. But given the right-hander's history, performance in the Cactus League isn't a reason for grave concern.

Thu, 23 Mar 2017 20:43:38 EDT

Thu, 23 Mar 2017 16:30:35 EDT

The Rockies optioned right-handed pitcher Jeff Hoffman to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday as they began narrowing the competition for the season-opening starting rotation. Thu, 23 Mar 2017 18:52:50 EDT
