It was noticeable not only how smooth Reds pitching prospect Luis Castillo was Sunday in his club debut vs. the Giants, but also how brisk he worked. Castillo pitched the seventh and eighth innings and went six up and six down with two strikeouts.



Peraza, Herrera lead offense for Reds

The Giants slugged three home runs on Sunday to power their way to a 9-5 victory over the Reds at Goodyear Park. San Francisco has opened Cactus League play with a 3-0 record, while Cincinnati fell to 0-3. Conor Gillaspie hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and Joe Panik added a two-run blast in the third. Another two-run shot came in the fourth inning from Jarrett Parker.

Some skippers go by the traditional standard -- hold the closer until the end. But, is it better for the best reliever to get three outs with no runners on base for a save in the ninth, or to be used in the highest-leverage situation to escape a jam in the seventh?
