Price to return as Reds' manager next year

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 19:35:15 EDT

Based largely on the Reds' on-field improvement and better record during the second half, the front office decided that the best way to keep moving forward was with Bryan Price as manager. It was announced Friday that Price would return to the club with a one-year contract through 2017, with an option for the 2018 season.

Late homer not enough in loss to Cubs

Sat, 1 Oct 2016 00:28:08 EDT

In one week, the Cubs will play Game 1 of the National League Division Series. On Friday, they tuned up against the Reds. Reds spot starter Josh Smith mowed through the first four innings, carrying a perfect game on 42 pitches. However, Ben Zobrist collected the Cubs' first hit and run with a home run leading off the fifth, and the Cubs' rout was on. Zobrist added another home run, Anthony Rizzo drove in two and Addison Russell added an RBI to lead the Cubs to a 7-3 win over the Reds.

Timing of request key to Reds-Cards dispute

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 01:21:14 EDT

The Cardinals' 4-3 walk-off win over the Reds on Thursday -- a crucial victory as St. Louis works to chase San Francisco in the Wild Card standings -- was laced with controversy, as Yadier Molina's RBI double, by rule, should not have been a game-winning hit at all.

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 02:32:56 EDT

With the Cardinals having just squandered a late lead, Yadier Molina delivered a walk-off RBI double to lift St. Louis to a 4-3 victory over the Reds at Busch Stadium on Thursday.

Price: 'A terrible way to lose a game'

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 01:06:44 EDT

Following a controversial 4-3 walk-off loss to the Cardinals on Yadier Molina's RBI double, Reds manager Bryan Price hustled through the exiting crowd of fans behind home plate to get to the umpires before they reached their locker room. He got to them, but he was too late in his efforts to change the outcome.

Votto gets stitches but OK after throw hits chin

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 00:41:06 EDT

Reds first baseman Joey Votto's third hit of Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Cardinals came with a painful price. Votto exited the game after being struck in the face by a throw in the eighth inning. Votto had lofted an opposite field double to left and was struck on the chin by Tommy Pham's throw as he slid feet-first into second base. He could be seen bleeding as Reds trainers looked him over.

DeSclafani, Reds 'pen deck Cards' chances

Thu, 29 Sep 2016 01:55:26 EDT

The Cardinals may be scoreboard-watching, but no one else's results matter if they don't start tabulating victories of their own. And on Wednesday night, they fell to the Reds, 2-1, in a loss that dropped St Louis further back in a race entering its final days.

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 20:10:42 EDT

Votto's big night overshadowed by Cardinals

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 01:14:32 EDT

Reds' offense racks up 22 hits in rout of Cards

Tue, 27 Sep 2016 03:00:58 EDT

Back at Busch Stadium with a chance to pull even with the Giants and inch closer to a sixth straight playoff berth, the Cardinals instead elicited boos from the typically affable home fans with one of their ugliest performances of the season. They looked little like a team ready for postseason play in a 15-2 loss to the Reds to open a seven-game homestand on Monday night.

Finnegan finishes strong after taking liner off leg

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 18:29:39 EDT

If this was indeed the final start of the season for Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan, he certainly didn't want it to end with a line drive off of his right leg.

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 14:07:42 EDT

Cingrani's struggles vs. first batter continue

Reds held in check by Lester during loss

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 03:14:27 EDT

The postseason is two weeks away, and even though the National League Central-champion Cubs are waiting for other teams to get in, pitcher Jon Lester's foot is nowhere close to lifting off the gas. Not only did Lester pitch seven robust innings to pick up his NL-high 18th win, he provided the game's first run with a rocket of an RBI double in a 6-1 victory over the Reds on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.
