Sun, 22 Apr 2018 15:37:52 EDT

Sunday's game between the Mets and Braves has been postponed due to rain. The teams will make the game up as part of a split-admission doubleheader on Memorial Day, May 28.

Wheeler, Mets rested up to face Cardinals

Sun, 22 Apr 2018 01:00:13 EDT

The Mets' choice to stay in the rotation instead of Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler hopes to vindicate that decision when he starts Tuesday in St. Louis vs. the Cardinals at 8:15 p.m. ET. The Mets should also receive a boost from Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier, who were both scheduled for days of rest in Sunday's postponed game.

Bullpen spoils big nights from Reyes, deGrom

Sun, 22 Apr 2018 01:39:55 EDT

The Mets' early bullpen success disguised the fact that two key relievers, AJ Ramos and Jerry Blevins, had not seen much success. Those two and Jeurys Familia all faltered Saturday in the late innings of the Mets' 4-3, walk-off loss to the Braves at SunTrust Park.

Mets decide to shift Harvey to bullpen

Sun, 22 Apr 2018 01:30:26 EDT

The Mets allowed Matt Harvey to state his case, but in the end, there was no changing their minds. Nothing Harvey could say would sway the Mets from demoting him from the rotation to the bullpen, a move the team announced before Saturday's game against the Braves.

Mets option Bautista, recall Oswalt for bullpen

Sat, 21 Apr 2018 19:32:32 EDT

The Mets on Saturday optioned Gerson Bautista to Double-A Binghamton, recalling right-hander Corey Oswalt from Triple-A Las Vegas to take his place. Bautista appeared in two games with the Mets in his first taste of the big leagues, allowing two runs in 2 1/3 innings. He averaged 96 mph on his fastball and topped out at 98 -- both down from reports of triple-digit heat last summer.

Slumping Yo comes through clutch in 12th

Sat, 21 Apr 2018 01:56:53 EDT

A slumping Yoenis Cespedes hit the go-ahead RBI single through the right side of the infield and Asdrubal Cabrera followed with an RBI knock of his own in the 12th inning on Friday, leading the Mets to a 5-3 win over the Braves at SunTrust Park. Early on, Ozzie Albies homered off a 99.6-mph fastball from Noah Syndergaard to set a Statcast record for the Braves.

NL East: Checking in on the new guys

Thu, 19 Apr 2018 11:20:36 EDT

There are plenty of new faces in the National League East. Some of them have had a major impact on their team's success the first three weeks of the season. Others have not. Here is a look at some of the most notable newcomers in the NL East entering Thursday.

Yo's slam caps Mets' 9-run 8th, comeback win

Thu, 19 Apr 2018 00:30:44 EDT

The Mets entered the eighth inning staring at the possibility of a sweep at home at the hands of the rival Nationals, but the lineup erupted for nine runs in the eighth inning to win the finale of a three-game set. Yoenis Cespedes' grand slam capped the outburst. Ryan Zimmerman hit two homers and tripled for the Nationals.

Discomfort slowing Swarzak's rehab timeline

Wed, 18 Apr 2018 18:45:42 EDT

Lingering oblique discomfort has prompted Mets reliever Anthony Swarzak to pause his throwing program, also putting a trip to Florida on hold.

Key hit missing in Mets' loss to Nationals

Wed, 18 Apr 2018 01:09:28 EDT

The situation was precisely what the Mets desired: hitter's count, runners at the corners, one out in a one-run game. This was their chance to break through against the Nationals, to wash away the residue of a particularly stinging loss on Monday, to prevent one defeat from becoming something more.

Nimmo among eye-catching April performances

Wed, 18 Apr 2018 10:51:52 EDT

It's true that it's only mid-April and there's a lot of unexpected early-season numbers that won't last, because they simply can't. That doesn't mean they don't hold some interest, however. At the very least, it's interesting enough to see some names you might not have thought about carrying some massive numbers. There's five in particular that stood out to us. Which ones will last?

deGrom fans 12 in Mets' deepest start of 2018

Mon, 16 Apr 2018 23:38:29 EDT

Unhappy with his results despite a 3.06 ERA over his first three starts, Jacob deGrom took time following the last one to review his mechanics. Almost immediately, deGrom noticed that his arm was dropping when he swung it behind him to begin his delivery.

Mets squander deGrom gem as 'pen unravels

Tue, 17 Apr 2018 01:00:08 EDT

The Mets were never under any delusions that their bullpen, which ranked 29th in the Majors last season, would transform overnight into baseball's best. But they did see real improvement in the group that entered Monday's play sporting a 1.51 ERA, lowest in the Majors. Even if no bullpen can be that steady over a six-month season, the Mets hardly expected their statistical correction to happen in a single inning.

More walk-off magic from Wilmer for Mets

Sun, 15 Apr 2018 18:22:09 EDT

Noah Syndergaard's strikeouts were the early story for the Mets on Sunday at Citi Field, but it was Wilmer Flores' ninth-inning home run that gave them a 3-2 walk-off win over the Brewers. Flores connected off Matt Albers to give the Mets their 10th win in the last 11 games and their first walk-off win of the season. The Mets bounced back after having their nine-game winning streak stopped by the Brewers on Saturday night, and won their fifth straight series to start the season.

Thor fans 8 straight Brewers en route to 11

Sun, 15 Apr 2018 19:00:25 EDT

Noah Syndergaard, who has a history of success against the Brewers, recorded nine strikeouts through four innings on Sunday, and 11 total. Even more impressively, he struck out eight straight, two shy of tying Tom Seaver's record for the most consecutive strikeouts by a single pitcher.

Where it began: Jackie honored in NYC, beyond

Sun, 15 Apr 2018 20:51:30 EDT

Sunday marked the 71st anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking Major League Baseball's color barrier, and for the 10th straight season, players throughout the game donned Robinson's iconic No. 42. At Citi Field, steps from where fans passed through the Ebbets Field-inspired Jackie Robinson Rotunda on the way to their seats, bearers of '42' included Brewers left-hander Brent Suter, who grew up a white kid in suburban Cincinnati but said he participated proudly because, "he wasn't just an impetus for change for baseball, but society as a whole."

Mets' bats kept in check, win streak ends at 9

Sat, 14 Apr 2018 23:48:02 EDT

After more than a week of nothing but comebacks, clutch pitching and wins, the Mets didn't have any of that and fell to the Brewers 5-1 before 40,965 at Citi Field. The defeat ended a nine-game winning streak that had propelled the Mets to a franchise-best 11-1 start. New York still has the best record in the National League.

Mets' bullpen has been exceptional this season

Sat, 14 Apr 2018 19:20:17 EDT

The Mets' rotation has produced only one performance of more than six innings this year. New York's bullpen is averaging almost four innings per game. That might sound like a recipe for a losing record, but the Mets have the best one in the National League.

Plawecki to DL; d'Arnaud will undergo surgery

Fri, 13 Apr 2018 18:38:56 EDT

A pair of catching injuries have put a significant hit on the Mets' depth chart. The Mets also announced that Travis d'Arnaud, who has a partial tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, will undergo Tommy John surgery next week. d'Arnaud will miss the remainder of the 2018 season.

Breaking down first rotation turn of Mets' 'Big 5'

Thu, 12 Apr 2018 14:54:44 EDT

Mets fans waited years to see the team's vaunted "Big 5" rotation of Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler and Steven Matz make a turn together. Often, as injuries or ineffectiveness struck one member of that group after another, it seemed the odds were heavily stacked against that dream ever becoming reality.

Lugo has been most pleasant surprise

Thu, 12 Apr 2018 09:00:37 EDT

At the start of the year, if you were ranking the six MLB divisions from most to least compelling, well, let's just say the National League East would not have been at the top of the list.

Mets win 8th straight behind 4-run 8th, Wheeler

Thu, 12 Apr 2018 00:08:08 EDT

Mike Callaway's Mets won their eighth straight game, 4-1 over the Marlins. They came from behind for the sixth time this season, batting around in the four-run eighth inning to make a winner of Zack Wheeler in his return to the rotation. They improved to a Major League-best 10-1, extending the hottest start to a season in franchise history. They swept a road trip of at least six games for the first time in 27 years, and just the second time ever.

Wheeler makes statement in rotation audition

Thu, 12 Apr 2018 00:04:30 EDT

Zack Wheeler couldn't have auditioned much better than he did, striking out seven over seven innings of two-hit, one-run ball on Wednesday in the Mets' 4-1 win over the Marlins.

Simply Amazin': Mets are top early MLB story

Wed, 11 Apr 2018 22:41:44 EDT

The Mets came from behind again Wednesday night to sweep the Marlins, the same way they swept a better team on the road in Washington last weekend. It was the big story of the night at Marlins Park, not the fact that Miami manager Don Mattingly took out his starter Jarlin Garcia after six no-hit innings.

Mets homer 3 times, rally to make club history

Wed, 11 Apr 2018 01:36:00 EDT

The Mets rallied behind a pair of Asdrubal Cabrera home runs and capitalized on a ninth-inning error when Yoenis Cespedes, who was battling flu-like symptoms, hit a go-ahead two-run double that lifted New York to an 8-6 victory at Marlins Park. With their seventh straight win, the Mets became the first team in franchise history to start a season 9-1.

Asdrubal homers from both sides of the plate

Tue, 10 Apr 2018 23:33:59 EDT

His Mets trailing by a run in the eighth inning on Tuesday, Asdrubal Cabrera was wary of giving away a prime opportunity to reach first base. He was ahead in the count, 3-0, against Marlins reliever Kyle Barraclough. Unless Barraclough threw him a fastball down the middle, Cabrera wasn't going to swing.
