Beltre's Opening Day status in doubt

The Rangers are five days away from Opening Day, and their best player is still not in the lineup. Adrian Beltre remains sidelined with tightness in his right calf muscle. He had an MRI exam on Monday, and it revealed he does not have a significant strain. But the third baseman hasn't played since coming out of Sunday's game against the Dodgers after just one plate appearance.

Rangers right-hander Dillon Gee, a former Royal, threw six dominant innings in a 0-0 Texas-Kansas City tie on Wednesday at Surprise Stadium. Royals Opening Day starter Danny Duffy worked four strong innings in his final tuneup before Monday's opener.

Right-hander Dillon Gee was terrific in his final spring outing in Arizona on Wednesday. Now the Rangers have to decide if they want him in Texas. Nothing has been resolved on that front, even though Gee had an out-clause in his contract that could be triggered on Wednesday.
