The World Series is coming to Wrigley Field tonight, and it is coming with the Cubs and Indians knotted at one win apiece in a fascinating Fall Classic matchup with historic implications.

Tomlin excited to pitch in front of dad at Wrigley

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 00:12:19 EDT

As the World Series shifts to Wrigley Field for Game 3 tonight -- knotted at one win apiece after the Indians fell to the Cubs, 5-1, in Game 2 on Wednesday night -- the Tribe hopes to get more of the same from right-hander Josh Tomlin, the unheralded veteran who has enjoyed tremendous success on the postseason stage this month.

Tomlin a crucial part of Tribe's master plan

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 20:28:00 EDT

Josh Tomlin won both of his postseason starts, one in the AL Division Series victory over Boston, the other over Toronto in the AL Championship Series. In those two starts, he gave up three runs over 10 2/3 innings. Another performance of that sort would be just about right for the Indians.

Tribe leaning toward Santana in LF at Wrigley

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 07:06:50 EDT

The wind could be howling out at Wrigley Field tonight and the brick wall that exists beneath the ivy is unforgiving. As if that is not intimidating enough, Carlos Santana will be dealing with the inherent pressure that comes with playing on the World Series stage.

Stonestreet: SU2C a uniting force in Series

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 15:30:49 EDT

There is one moment in the World Series that will unite us all: Whether Cubs or Indians, whether your dreams include Bob Feller or Ernie Banks, whether you wake up every morning cursing goats and Steve Bartman or if you shave your head like Charlie Sheen in "Major League" -- there is one moment taking place Saturday night in Game 4 of the World Series (8 p.m. ET on FOX) that will stop us all in our tracks and remind us of baseball's power to galvanize a nation.

Tomlin's 'new' curve could cause Cubs fits in Game 3

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 00:00:30 EDT

Josh Tomlin rarely cracks 90 mph with his fastball, and that might not seem like a great fit against a powerful Cubs lineup in Game 3. That said, Tomlin has added spin and movement to his curve, and that could work out well, since the Cubs struggle against curveballs.

Hitter-friendly confines? Forecast: Mighty wind

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 02:47:08 EDT

With Game 3 projected to have winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts beyond that, we could see plenty of offense. How badly could that impact the pitchers? Let's check out Tomlin and Hendricks this postseason to see how they might be affected.

Callaway clicks quite well with Francona

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 00:05:56 EDT

Terry Francona came to Cleveland with the pedigree of having won two World Series in Boston, and had he imported his own hand-picked pitching coach when he took over as the manager of the Indians before the 2013 season, he would have been well within his right to do so. But the folks in the Indians' front office presented Mickey Callaway, who at the time was their Minor League pitching coordinator, as an option to consider. And to say Francona's eventual selection of Callaway has provided a productive pairing is an understatement.

Merritt's competitiveness instilled as a kid

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 00:00:46 EDT

Before each pitch, Ryan Merritt extended his arms skyward, collecting himself before shifting into his delivery. Watching from his home in Frisco, Texas, Kevin Cullen could not help but be reminded of when he first scouted the Indians lefty and saw a mix of nervous ticks.

Tribe's Series rotation not set in stone

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 00:02:31 EDT

The Indians have announced their planned rotation for the remainder of the World Series, but everything is subject to change. Team president Chris Antonetti made that clear during Thursday night's workout at Wrigley Field on the eve of Game 3 against the Cubs.

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 00:07:20 EDT

After the Cubs' 5-1 win over the Indians in Game 2 on Wednesday evened the series at 1 game apiece, the World Series shifts to Chicago for Game 3 tonight (7:30 p.m. ET air time /8 ET game time on FOX). There's World Series fever everywhere you look in Chicago as Wrigley Field prepares to host its first Fall Classic game since Oct. 10, 1945.

More homers equal more wins in '16 postseason

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 00:17:37 EDT

On a cold, damp Wednesday night in Cleveland, not a single ball cleared the outfield wall at Progressive Field as the Cubs beat the Indians, 5-1, in Game 2 of the World Series. In a home-run happy year, it was the first time in 30 postseason games that neither team went deep.

Game 2 doesn't go according to plan for Tribe

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 00:26:53 EDT

It was creeping across the radar, a big green blob threatening the big green field of play. The forecast was foreboding enough that the start time for Game 2 of the World Series was moved up an hour, and the looming rain turned out to be an ideal metaphor for the storm that was approaching an Indians team whose run to this Fall Classic was nearly -- and, evidently, unsustainably -- free of flops.

Tribe tripped up by Arrieta as Series draws even

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 02:45:30 EDT

Jake Arrieta took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and Kyle Schwarber had a pair of RBIs as the Cubs handed the Indians a 5-1 loss at Progressive Field on Wednesday night to even the World Series at a game apiece.

Finger fine, but Bauer exits G2 start in 4th

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 01:35:27 EDT

Though Trevor Bauer's finger did not pose any problems on Wednesday night, the vulnerability of the Indians' rotation was on full display in a 5-1 loss to the Cubs in Game 2 of the World Series at Progressive Field.

Scuffling offense catches up to Indians in G2

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 00:56:23 EDT

Measured in decibels, perhaps Wednesday's highest-octane moment at Progressive Field occurred in the sixth inning of World Series Game 2.

Kipnis shrugs off uncharacteristic mishaps

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 01:45:25 EDT

Jason Kipnis was charged with two errors in a 5-1 Game 2 loss to the Cubs that evened this World Series at one win apiece.

Walking dread: Tribe gives Cubs easy access

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 02:31:47 EDT

The Cubs were the only team to average more than four walks per game this season, and Cleveland issued only two free passes to take Game 1 of the Fall Classic. But with eight walks in Game 2 on Wednesday, they lost, 5-1. For the Indians to reclaim the edge, they'll need to avoid putting so many runners on base.

Salazar shakes off rust in relief appearance

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 01:05:14 EDT

Indians right-hander Danny Salazar hadn't pitched since Aug. 9 due to a right forearm strain, but he proved he was ready to contribute with his first professional relief appearance Wednesday. Although he didn't factor into the decision in the Cubs' 5-1 win over the Indians in Game 2 of the World Series, he showed he will be a major weapon moving forward.

DYK: Arrieta's historic no-hit bid

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 01:27:42 EDT

The Cubs' series-evening triumph Wednesday was their first World Series game win since Game 6 of the 1945 Fall Classic on Oct. 8, 1945. That's a span of 25,952 days, which is a numerical palindrome (the same number forward and backward). Here are some other facts and figures to know about Game 2.
