what is life Wed, 18 Jan 2012 23:18:00 GMT (image)SOPA - How does this harm free speech? A Wikipedia official said the legislation could allow for "censorship without due process." A: Opponents of the legislation worry that the language in the House bill is so broad that it would allow content owners to target U.S. websites that aren't knowingly hosting pirated content. This has been a particular concern of bill opponents Facebook, Wikipedia and Twitter, all of which have sites that depend heavily on content uploaded by users. In an extreme case, opponents say, media companies could get a court order blocking payments to an innocent site, with the effect of shutting it down and stripping it of its rights to free speech. Also, they say the legislation would encourage authoritarian countries that have already been trying to block content on the Internet they don't like. just - be informed..and proactive skp btw - taken this morning :-)

Zugspitze '72 Thu, 29 Dec 2011 12:33:12 GMT (image)Another year is drawing to it's close. It's a time for looking back and sharing memories. I thought that I would post a very old transparency, shot on Agfa by whatever camera I happened to be using at the time!! (1972). I think that it was an Exa IIB! Wishing everyone here a very safe, healthy and Happy New Year and an active 2012!! Keep the shutters clicking. I have made just one New Year resolution, "I will use my cameras more!" I know the Zugspitze is in Germany, its highest mountain. But I shot this from Lermoos, which is in Austria!

Picnic Mon, 19 Dec 2011 09:46:34 GMT (image)This is our picnic which followed our visit to the farmer's market in Les Eyzies de Tayac, the subject of my earlier series. There we bought wine, cheese, sausage and bread. Teddie and Ken are asking Rosalie how she is feeling, because just a few minutes earlier her wheelchair had fallen backward causing her to hit her head on the ground. Ken and I were gone off to the car to get the food at the time, but a crowd of nearby French people came running to help her and were very kind. Fortunately, Ro ended up with just some minor injuries, but it was pretty scary.

The Drum Sun, 11 Dec 2011 19:07:48 GMT (image)The progress of the monastic day in a Buddhist temple is marked by the drum and bell, beginning at the 3:30 AM wake-up call, to the last meditation session at night. Portrayed here is the sunset call for the evening service, when the monks go to the main hall to chant the sutras. Here is an example of what the temple drumming sounds like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAb9-gNlR38&feature=related If you watch the whole clip you can see how the monks take turns, without a break in the rhythm.

TFP5261 Thu, 17 Nov 2011 19:24:35 GMT (image)Three Years Gone I must admit I'm the less constant and effective of 591 contributors. In some extent I'm like a paying traveller jumped on board of an eighteen centrury clipper sailing over the oceans to reach the Indies. Sometimes I feel like sitting on the deck of this tall ship prow, soaking with sunlight and looking with admiration at the crew, as they pull the ropes to widen the sails and make it fly over the waves. This travel started three years ago and it's doesn't seem to come to an end. The tall ship stops from time to time into new unexpected harbours that maps don't report at all and set sails again filled with goods and experience. (www.591photography.com)

The future Wed, 03 Aug 2011 17:04:55 GMT (image)The Future The future: time's excuse to frighten us; too vast a project, too large a morsel for the heart's mouth. Future, who won't wait for you? Everyone is going there. It suffices you to deepen the absence that we are. (by Rainer Maria Rilke)
