(image) Insurance broker Aon Plc is in advanced talks to sell its employee benefits outsourcing unit to buyout firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice LLC for nearly $4.5 billion, people familiar with the matter said on Thursday. The divestiture would undo much of Aon's 2010 acquisition of human resources services provider Hewitt Associates Inc for $4.9 billion, signaling that the company now wants to focus more on its insurance and risk management businesses. After submitting an offer earlier this month, CD&R has prevailed over private equity firm Blackstone Group LP in an auction for the unit, the sources said.

(image) (Reuters) - A federal judge is expected to block a proposed deal between health insurer Anthem Inc and Cigna Corp as soon as Thursday, the New York Post reported, citing sources. Anthem, which operates Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance plans in 14 U.S. states, is trying to buy smaller rival Cigna. Judge Amy Berman Jackson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has not yet issued an opinion on the case.

(image) U.S. regulators has found no evidence of any defects in Tesla electric cars after investigating the death of a man whose Model S collided with a truck while he was using its Autopilot system, the first fatality involving semi-autonomous driving software. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Thursday it will not seek a vehicle recall after conducting a six-month investigation. The regulator's decision is seen as a boost to automakers racing to get vehicles that are nearly self-driving or fully autonomous on U.S. roads in the next few years.

The scramble to promote Snapchat's "spectacles" is revealing the fierce competition between the two exchanges to host initial public offerings (IPOs) of prominent technology startups.

Western Union settles U.S. money laundering allegations for $586 million

(image) Western Union Co agreed to pay $586 million and admitted to turning a blind eye as criminals used its service for money laundering and fraud, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission said in statements on Thursday. “Western Union is now paying the price for placing profits ahead of its own customers," said Acting Assistant Attorney General David Bitkower. Fraudsters offering fake prizes and job opportunities swindled tens of thousands of U.S. consumers, giving Western Union agents a cut in return for processing the payments, authorities said.

Mnuchin not in favor of cutting federal ties with Fannie, Freddie

(image) President-elect Donald Trump's pick for U.S. Treasury Secretary, Steve Mnuchin, on Thursday told a Senate panel he does not believe in severing federal ties with and privatizing mortgage giants Fannie Mae [FNMA.PK] and Freddie Mac [FMCC.PK]. Mnuchin, a Wall Street veteran, said at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Finance Committee that he does not support the idea of "recap and release," where the government-sponsored enterprises would stop paying the Treasury and use their profits to recapitalize in order to stand on their own. Since being placed in federal conservatorship in 2008, the height of the financial crisis, Fannie and Freddie have turned over hundreds of billions in dividends to the U.S. government.

The F-35, the Pentagon's costliest arms program, has drawn fire from U.S. President-elect Donald Trump who has made lowering prices for military equipment a pillar of his transition into office. A Lockheed representative declined to comment and a representative for the fighter program said negotiations are ongoing.
