A Few Updates

2017-11-15T22:27:00+00:00

Hello, everyone! May I just say, you guys are awesome for waiting so long for me to get my act together. This fall brought many new adjustments with the girls' new school, so for a while, it was just easier to play the avoidance card instead of thinking how behind I was on blogging. ;)I'm about halfway done with my annual Rapunzel and Belle Disney Store doll reviews, so those should be up within the week. Since the reviews are taking longer than I planned (especially since my Belle dolls from prior years are still packed away and I have to find them), I thought I'd tide you over with a few updates. For those of you who don't follow me on Instagram, I just did a full month's worth of drawings in October, known as "Inktober" for artists. ;) It was a crazy challenge to do one traditional ink drawing per day, but I made it. I think about two or three of them were a day late. ;)Here are a couple of my favorites:Fan art from Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George.Fan art from Tangled. Unicorn!! :D"Phan" art from The Phantom of the Opera.Fan art from Beauty and the Beast. It was great to have an excuse to draw, and I really saw an improvement in my art as the month progressed. :)Since I now have an indoor cat, I have to rethink the way I display my collections. He loves climbing and has taken quite a liking to my doll rooms, for example. ;) To keep my things from getting broken and to avoid situations where I'm annoyed at the cat for something instinctual to his nature, I decided to invest in a couple of display cases from IKEA. They didn't house quite as many of my things as I'd hoped, but it's a start. Here are my displays so far: With lights on......and without.I couldn't fit my boxed doll sets in the displays and fit much of anything else with them, so I decided to put them on top with my Funko Pops from Frozen and Tangled. The top left shelf holds some of my favorites from my Tangled collection. The next shelf down has some of my Frozen favorites.Next comes my live-action Cinderella collection. And on the bottom, my Fluttershy, Minty, and watermelon mini collections. This is the display space I'm probably the least happy about. I might try rearranging it, or I might try displaying something else there instead. The top right space has my more stylized dolls, like my Pullips, J-Dolls, and Licca. The next shelf down has my custom dolls. This space will eventually have other dolls, too. :)Next I have a display of some of my very favorite G1 My Little Ponies. And the bottom shelf has some of my Hearts for Hearts Girls and mini dolls.I may change the displays around a bit after a while, especially as I continue to unpack, rearrange, and go through my collections, but this is a nice start. :)I also hung up three of my little house-shaped shelves again so I could display some of my mini Shoppies and Twozies. My toy budget has been much more limited now, but I've still managed to find a few things here and there. ;) Ever since I saw the messy-haired Anna Little Kingdom doll from Frozen in footage from last February's Toy Fair, I've been keeping an eye out for her. She never showed up in regular stores, but I just found her at Ross last week for $5!She comes with an unassembled bed, a Sven pillow, three golden embellishments for her hair and dress, and a sleep mask. Here she is, all ready for bed.And catching some Zs with her mask on. ;)At Target, I found a doll-sized Nutella jar. ;)And also some Christmas Shopkins. My favorite is the ugly sweater one. :)It's been thrilling to find so much unicorn-themed stuff around in stores, too. As I said on Instagram, though, I liked collecting unicorn stuff before it was cool. ;)I also recorded a couple of YouTube vlogs during my absence that shares a bit of what's been going on with me. If you'd like to see the most recent one, you can watch it HERE. (Please pardon my crazy hair...I'd just taken a shower.) ;)Not much more to report other than that. I've been busy parenting, helping the girls adjust to their new school (which they love), writing, and trying to figure out a bette[...]

Still Alive

2017-09-14T16:00:00+00:00

Honest, I am. But I'm discovering that starting your kids at a brand new school can take some serious adjustment, even if your kids are doing well and enjoying that new school.

Sorry to leave you guys hanging for so long. The last few weeks have felt like the inside of a washing machine, or the middle of a merry-go-round on the playground. :} Things will still be crazy for a while, especially since Oldest Gal just started volleyball season. But I hope within the next week or so to get a handle on blogging, writing, and some of the other things that have fallen by the wayside in the past month. ;)

In the meantime, I'm headed to my church's ladies retreat today. While I won't be posting here during that time, I'll be keeping everyone updated on Instagram and Twitter, so you can keep track of my adventures there until I get back. ;)

Have a lovely weekend, everyone! Talk to you again soon.

Seven Years

2017-07-25T23:12:00+00:00

It's hard to believe that seven years ago I started a little blog that grew into something amazing. Today is my seventh "blogoversary," and as I look back over the past seven years, I am so humbled and thankful for all I've learned and for the wonderful friends I've made. Thank you to all of you who have been a part of this adventure and have made it so special. :)I had hoped to have my traditional giveaway ready by now, but between swimming lessons for the girls and getting ready for the writers conference this weekend, I didn't quite get it together. I do have a few reviews in the works, though, so I thought I'd give you a preview of what to look forward to. ;)Disney Store Rapunzel "Before Ever After" DollSlim, Original, and Broad Ken Fashionista Dolls Disney Store Live Action Belle and Gaston Dolls(I have a new photography assistant.) ;)This weekend, I'll be sharing photos of my trip on my Instagram account. I'm hoping to get to a Disney Store to get my Belle and Rapunzel (and possibly Hans) dolls, and there will definitely be at least one Toys R Us stop involved. I'm on the hunt for Season 3 Shopkins Happy Places sets. :D Since it's a special trip, I'll have a bit of spending money. :)I might also possibly vlog about my adventures, if it works out with our schedule, but I'll keep you posted on that.Keep an eye out for a giveaway post next week! Disney Store 2017 Classic Dolls are Here!

2017-07-18T22:42:00+00:00

And sadly, there aren't too many changes to report, especially for the dolls I collect, but there are a few things they switched up that are fun. The face molds appear unchanged, and most of the dresses are almost identical to last year's. Also like last year, each of the princess dolls comes with a sidekick. Let's take a look!As usual, I'll start with the dolls from my three favorite movies (only highlighting the princes from my faves), and then the rest of the dolls will be listed alphabetically. To change things up a little bit, I thought it would be fun to include pics of the dolls both boxed and unboxed. I like seeing how the boxes change from year to year, but you can usually see more of the differences in the unboxed pictures. If you'd like to take a look at last year's post to compare the changes, you can see it HERE.Belle(original images HERE)So first, we have beautiful Belle. The only changes I see right away are the lack of glitter on her bodice this year and the shorter skirt length. Any other differences are so subtle, they won't show up until I see her in person. I have to say, I do hope she has at least a slight variation in her face paint, or I'm going to feel like I'm purchasing the exact same doll. :{Just a note on the new box design. Boxes don't matter as much to me with this line since I always debox these dolls, but overall, I find this year's design quite plain compared to last year's. However, I do like the fact that each box has the title of the movie in its original script. That's kind of cool and nostalgic. ;)Beast(original images HERE)The Beast appears to be exactly the same as he has been for the past two years, and since I wasn't a huge fan of him before, I'll be skipping this guy this year, too. :)Rapunzel(original images HERE)The only difference I see in Rapunzel right off is that they kept her sleeves short. I really like it when they add her longer sleeves, since the dress is more movie accurate that way. No other differences stand out to me at this point. Again, it will be interesting to see her in person and see the slight variations.Eugene (because I still refuse to call him "Flynn") ;)(original images found HERE)I'm pretty sure all the prince dolls are the same (except for one...but more on that later), so Eugene, like the Beast, is virtually unchanged. I think I'll pass on him this time, too, even though this mold is one of my very favorite renditions of him. :)Anna(original images found HERE)Classic Anna. I'm so glad she was released right away this year instead of weeks later as an almost afterthought, like last year. I know everyone loves Elsa, but Anna has always been my favorite of the two sisters. That being said, I don't think I'm going to bring her home. Honestly, it's crazy enough collecting the Belle and Rapunzel Classic dolls. I really don't need to start with Annas, too. ;) Especially since I know her outfit will be so simplified compared to the original.Kristoff(original images found HERE)Since I just purchased this version of Kristoff last year, I won't be getting him this time around. Did I ever review this guy for you guys? I can't remember...Elsa(original images found HERE)Elsa's new doll seems almost the same as well. Definitely not getting her since I already try to limit my Elsa purchases. I'm just flat running out of room!Hans(original images found HERE)Hans was the only prince/villain doll to receive a major change. He's wearing his outfit from the ball, and it actually looks pretty detailed, especially for the Classic line! I'm going to have to get this guy eventually. He'd look great on my shelf with my original Hans. I might tone down his freckles a bit, though. They're pretty big and dark compared to how they looked in the movie. ***I won't go into as many details with these others since I don't actively collect t[...]

A Long Overdue Update

2017-07-07T08:02:00+00:00

Hello, everyone! Yes, I'm still alive. I didn't fall off a cliff or get eaten by wild animals. I did, however, step into the whirlwind of summer at the end of May and have scarcely had a chance to take a breath since!Sorry to keep you hanging for so long. When I said I'd be slowing down on this blog a bit, I didn't exactly have THIS slow in mind. ;) Thanks for bearing with me.A lot has been going on since I last posted, so here are a few things you might be curious about. (Or not...maybe you haven't thought about it at all...which is totally okay.) ;)Family News:One of the biggest things to report is that we got our roof replaced! A contractor friend from church was able to squeeze us in between projects last month, so the rotting parts of the roof are all repaired. He gave us a wonderful deal, but we'll still be making payments for quite a while...and then paying off some pretty major credit card debt. Sigh. Being a homeowner can stink sometimes. ;)Our next project will be replacing the mildewy drywall in our room and the two younger girls' room, hopefully within the next month. Once that's finished, we'll repaint those walls, seal and repaint the outside of the house, and eventually repaint the inside with the goal of reselling. I'll admit, I had hoped we'd be able to fix things up quickly and immediately turn around and resell the house to recoup some of our expenses, but it looks like God has other plans. The type of permit Hubby had to get for the roof requires us to wait at least a year to resell, so we'll be here at least until next June.I was pretty disappointed by this at first. I had hoped we could avoid being in debt for that long, and I'd started getting excited about finding a place that would fit our needs a little better. Now, though, I realize it's probably for the best to take things a little slower and fix things as we can.I'll keep you guys posted on our progress. Our other big news is that we added a kitten to our furry family. :} It began as a project. Several new kittens were born to the feral cats living in our neighbor's backyard, and we got sucked into the cuteness in spite of having a dog. (At least they weren't born in our backyard this time.) A lot of them had goopy eyes, bad fleas, and respiratory problems, so we took one of our favorites to the vet to see what was going on. My main reasons for doing this were to make sure it was okay for the girls to be handling them, and also to prepare the girls for a sad outcome if the prognosis wasn't all that great.Poor kitty on his way to the vet's.To make a long story short, we ended up keeping said kitten in our house and treating him with medicine from the vet's until we became hopelessly attached to him.So now, we have an inside kitten. He is the most adorable thing ever, and the girls love him. He and Teddy are slowly getting used to one another. Teddy thinks Pumpkin is the best thing in the world, but so far, the feeling is not mutual. ;)"Please come out and play, Pumpkin!" ;)We also had the opportunity to take a couple little vacations, one to the coast with our church's family camp, and one to Trinity Alps Resort for a day trip with family. We will also be going to the coast again in August with my side of the family. (I feel so spoiled!) :DHere are a few of my favorite pictures from our trips:Our lovely campsite in Trinidad. Projects and Changes

2017-05-10T15:44:00+00:00

Hey everyone! Hope your week is going well.I realize I'm quite behind on a few promised posts. I'll see what I can do about getting those up for you in the coming month. However, between the end of the school year craziness and other issues, things might be a bit quiet for a while. The biggest setback right now is that we're dealing with some serious mildew issues in our house. Northern California got pummeled with rain this year, which was a huge blessing. Sadly, our roof, which was already in need of repair, will not make it another winter, and will need to be replaced as soon as possible. The leaky roof led to mildew issues in our room and in the room the younger two girls share. We're looking at having to replace at least two walls with new drywall, possibly three. Ugh.So, that's what we'll be focusing on this summer. As a result, my doll budget will be significantly lower. We're trying to set aside all we can for the upcoming expenses. What's even sadder is that almost all of my doll stuff is packed away right now, although I did keep a few small things out to enjoy. My parents very graciously offered their garage as a storage area while we get things figured out. I had to clear most of the room to allow an insurance inspector to come out and see the problem areas (nope, not covered by insurance...sadly). Since we're looking at fixing things up this summer, and our room is one of the main problems, it seemed silly to unpack everything again. So this is what our room looks like right now (please pardon the unmade bed...it was one of those mornings):Weird, huh? ;)As you can imagine, finding things to photograph and review is a bit tricky at the moment. ;) Because of this, most of my posts in the coming months will be more casual.I'm planning to seriously reevaluate everything as I slowly bring it back into my room. I love my collections, but I have so much stuff it's getting hard to enjoy things. I'd rather downsize a bit and pass some things on to others who will really enjoy them. I'll keep you guys posted on that. And now, it's time to announce another exciting change. I've officially started a website and blog devoted entirely to my writing. This was a huge suggestion I got from several other writers and agents. While Never Grow Up is fun and informative, it's not the type of blog that necessarily reflects my writing at its most professional level (which is fine...I love being more casual here). It was also suggested that I really need to "brand" myself, if that makes sense. People reading my blog should get a feel for the type of books I'm going to write. While I had a website before, I'm now working with a professional company to make it a little more classy (and to have help with all of the website building stuff that can be so overwhelming).I've only been at the new site for a couple of months, so it's still in its very beginning stages, but I'm pleased with it so far. I'll be posting writing news and updates, doing some fairy tale reviews, and sharing thoughts from my heart. I also have an email subscription list (another item of huge importance, according to the writing agents I talked to). My plan is to eventually have special content only available to my email subscribers, hopefully as early as this summer. If you guys want to check it out and give me some feedback, you can see my site at hannahprewett.com. Some of you may be wondering what this means for Never Grow Up. At this point, my plan is to keep both blogs going. I love writing about dolls and having a place to share my latest finds. That being said, becoming a published author has been my dream since I started this little blog almost seven years ago. So naturally, my writing blog will take precedence. I need to find out if I can accomplish th[...]

Our Easter Break Project

2017-04-23T04:39:00+00:00

Hello, everyone! I hope you all had a lovely spring break and Easter. It's hard to believe how quickly the school year is winding to a close. Summer will be here before we know it!This Easter break, I had big plans. I was going to clean and organize the whole house, especially the younger two girls' room. The house has needed a deep cleaning/organizing/decluttering for a while now, and having a week with nothing else on the schedule seemed like the perfect time to do it.But then my girls asked if we could do some crafting together. A couple of months ago, we'd delved into the world of doll repainting, and it had been a long time since we'd had a chance to do it.So instead of spending the week cleaning, I spent the week in my pjs, sitting around the table with my girls, repainting dolls and listening to radio dramas. It was totally worth it.I know when I'm eighty I won't look back on this week and wish I'd dusted and organized. ;) It was so much fun spending this precious time with the girls, feeding their creativity and sharing our crafting passion together. This was what our table looked like for most of the week. And this. ;)So, you've probably gathered this from the above pictures, but this post will be chock full of naked dolls and disembodied doll heads, so if you're weirded out or offended by either, this might be a good post to skip. ;)I'd also like to apologize in advance for the wonky lighting on some of these photos. My phone camera lighting was a bit off, and basically, I was too lazy to go in and fix every single picture. :}We each worked on several dolls over the course of our vacation, focusing mainly on Monster High and Ever After High dolls. Among our products used were soft pastels, watercolor pencils, acrylic paints, mod podge, hot glue, and Mr. Super Clear.Gazelle from ZootopiaLittle Gal decided she wanted to make a custom Gazelle from Zootopia. She studied online photos, and came up with her own design (shown on the left), which consisted of a repainted Barbie head with new hair and Sculpey horns, ears, and muzzle. She made Gazelle's outfit from sparkly, pink felt. Gazelle's body was made from an Ever After High Ashlynn Ella doll from Goodwill with missing hands. Little Gal made her special hands and a microphone from Sculpey, painted some custom boots, and then she was finished!A closer look at her outfit.Gazelle's shoes were some pink Monster High shoes that Little Gal painted with white accents. Gazelle's microphone......and custom hands.Unfortunately, she lost the fingers on her left hand. Hopefully Little Gal can make her a new hand soon.I was really proud of Little Gal throughout this entire process. As the youngest and a perfectionist, she often struggles with bringing her ideas to reality. She either can't figure out a way to interpret her concept in real life, or she's unhappy with the results and gives up before she finishes. But this time, she kept working at it, even when she had a few setbacks. I'm very proud of her for figuring this out all by herself (and for asking Middle Gal for some hot gluing help when she needed it). Considering the fact that she's nine years old and this is the first time she's ever done something this ambitious, I think it's pretty spectacular. I loved the way she figured out how to make Gazelle's face, horns, and hands.OOAK Monster High ClawdeenOne of Middle Gal's major projects this week was repainting this Monster High Clawdeen doll. Middle Gal removed the paint, I sealed her with Mr. Super Clear, and then Middle Gal got to work. She started with soft pastels and watercolor pencils......and finished up with paint for some final touches. I love how sweet and innocent she looks now. Unfortunately, I got a little too close wi[...]

Post in the Works

2017-04-22T06:21:00+00:00

Hey everyone! I'd hoped to have a post up for you today, but I couldn't quite pull it off. It's taken me a couple of hours just to arrange all of the pictures. ;) I hope to have it up by tomorrow, but it may be as late as Monday. Tomorrow morning, I'm doing another Beauty and the Beast presentation for a second local doll club, tomorrow night is our school fundraiser auction, Sunday morning the girls are singing in church, and Sunday afternoon is Oldest Gal's family party. Whew, I'm getting tired just listing all of that!

Here's a little preview of what's to come:

Can you tell what we've been busy with at our house? ;)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Beauty and the Beast 2017 Review

2017-04-01T06:06:00+00:00

Well, goodness, I certainly kept you all hanging on this one. Thanks for being so patient with me.I've now seen Beauty and the Beast in theaters three times. I watched it the first time on opening day, and loved it so much that I immediately bought tickets for after school that same day so my daughters could see it. ;)My Funko Mystery Minis Beast and Belle enjoying the theater. And the "behind the scenes" photo my friend took of me getting that perfect shot. ;)   The big display in the lobby......and my three girls.Trying to condense my thoughts on this film into one blog post has been a challenge. As you all know, I could go super deep into my Disney nerdism and give you a never-ending post about every little detail. However, I don't want to spoil it for those of you who haven't seen it, and I also don't want to bore everyone to death with non-essentials. ;)I thought I should start off by saying that, obviously, this is my favorite Disney story of all time, so I might not be the most unbiased opinion out there. Of course, that also means I could be way pickier than the average viewer in some instances. So, consider yourself warned, and don't feel you have to agree with me on everything. ;)Okay, on to the actual review.Original image found HERE.Things I LOVED: First off, the nostalgia of this movie was epic. Seeing a beloved cartoon come to life in such a beautiful, breathtaking way was magical. From the moment the opening credits began and Disney used the BEAST'S CASTLE (eep!!) as the "Walt Disney Pictures" castle, I was hooked. I felt like a little ten-year-old girl again, with the same wonder and excitement I had when watching the original release in 1991. And, of course, the moment the beginning notes of "Belle" filled the theater and Emma Watson, as a living, breathing version of my very favorite Disney princess, walked through the town singing those iconic words, I wanted to cry with happiness. :)I loved the depth added to each of the characters in this new version. The Beast had this quirky, dry sense of humor that gave him extra dimension. He had some of my favorite lines and facial expressions in the movie. Maurice was no longer the bumbling, silly father of the animated cartoon, but a sweet, if rather absent-minded, older man with a haunted past and a quiet dignity. You could immediately see why Belle loved him so much.I know that some of my acquaintances were worried by the "feminist" touches Emma planned on adding to Belle's character. I myself am not a feminist, but had no problem with the changes. The strength of Belle's character did not diminish the male roles around her, which is the trend I have seen again and again in many movies with feminist input. The changes made were consistent with Belle's original character. She was still portrayed as a loving, beautiful person with a strong personality and a brave spirit. I also appreciated that some of the additions to the story made her feel less like someone with "Stockholm syndrome," which is a common complaint about the Beauty and the Beast story.Gaston and LeFou, played wonderfully by Luke Evans and Josh Gad, were given more character development as well. I thought Luke Evans' Gaston was brilliant and believable, yet even more despicable than the animated character. The second time I watched it, the audience actually cheered when he met his doom.Um, hopefully that wasn't too much of a spoiler. I mean, you've all seen the cartoon, right? ;}And honestly, the entire cast was just spot on. I felt that each of the actors embodied their characters perfectly. From the main characters, to the enchanted objects,[...]

Back from the Birthday Trip

2017-03-22T02:25:00+00:00

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd drop in and let you know that we actually made it to Roseville this time. ;) We had a wonderful birthday trip for the girls and got back home safely this afternoon.I'd hoped to get that Beauty and the Beast review up before I left, but between packing and everything else, it didn't work out. The short version of my review is that overall, I LOVED it. :D More detailed thoughts to come. ;)I don't have the energy to do a full post tonight, but here's a short little preview of our trip:More to come! ;)Hey everyone! In Which my Monthly Posting Trend Continues...

2017-03-17T04:10:00+00:00

Okay, seriously, where did February go? There's no way my calendar is right. Oy.I really hate starting blog posts with an apology, but I feel one is due this time. It's been over a month since you've heard from me, which is ridiculous. Apparently, this is my new thing for 2017: one post per month. Sorry, guys! :}So, what have I been up to during that time?First off, I have to share the rest of our Spirit Week pictures with you. (Side note: I think Spirit Week was the start of my blog neglect. I'm pretty sure I used up most of my brain cells then, and things haven't slowed down since.) ;)If you guys remember, all of the dress up days this year had board game themes. So the first day, highlighted in my previous post, was Candyland. Day Two was "Scrabble Day." The students each had to pick a famous character or object that started with the same letter as the first letter of their name and dress up as that. So, I suppose now you'll know the first letter of each of the girl's names. ;) Little Gal went as Captain America, Middle Gal went as Porthos (from the 90s version of "The Three Musketeers"), and Oldest Gal went as Boo from Monsters Inc. Little Gal's shield and Middle Gal's sword were both handmade by my dad, using cardboard, duct tape, and paint. :)Puppy kisses for Captain America. ;)Day Three was "Apples to Apples Day". Oldest Gal and Little Gal went for more literal interpretations of this by going as Apples to Apples game cards, while Middle Gal chose a theme from one of the cards and went as a fairy. The last day was "Battleship Day," or, more traditionally, "Red, White, and Blue Day." I think this one's pretty self-explanatory. ;)The girls still managed to keep up with their homework during Spirit Week. Here's Little Gal doing her reading in one of the under-bed storage cubbies, waiting to go into Oldest Gal's room. ;)***In the middle of this crazy week was the AWANA Grand Prix at our church, an event where each of the kiddos get to make their own boxwood derby cars and race them. Oldest Gal isn't in AWANA anymore (she's too old), but the other two both had fun working on their cars with Papa.Middle Gal decided on a dolphin design and made a mermaid to ride on top.The mermaid is trailing her hands in the water at the end of the dolphin's tail. The water was made from hot glue droplets (all Middle Gal's idea).Little Gal decided she wanted to make Moana's boat. Here it is from the side......and from the front.***As if this wasn't enough fun, we've celebrated two birthdays over the past month, too. Middle Gal's was in February. She decided on an ice cream and toppings bar instead of cake, so my mom and Mimi found all sorts of fun toppings for ice cream. She requested something for a fairy garden as her [non]cake topper, so Mom found her some figurines and a wishing well, and my dad made her a little fairy-sized bridge.Little Gal's actual birthday is almost here, but we celebrated her family party last week. She requested a Moana cake with Moana high-fiving an ocean wave.I think Mom and Mimi pulled it off pretty well. :)The "sand" was graham cracker crumbs over a cream cheese frosting, with chocolate shells for decorations. The water was made of blue and white fondant. My dad made Little Gal her own miniature version of Moana's boat for her little Moana doll. Pua looks ready for adventure!***Backtracking a bit now. Right after Spirit Week, over President's Day weekend, we attempted to take the girls' annual birthday trip to Roseville.Mini Josefina and Ooma the Zelf, all excited for the trip.We specifically took I-5 instead of High[...]

Valentine's Day, Spirit Week, AG News, and Disney Store Dolls

2017-02-14T18:55:00+00:00

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! I hope your day is spent with someone special, whether it's a husband, wife, sweetheart, or good friend. Hubby and I were too tired to do much other than say "Happy Valentine's Day" to each other this morning as we stumbled out of bed and got ready for the day. That's what happens when your girls have Spirit Week, Homecoming, Valentine's Day parties, and the Awana Grand Prix all in the same week. ;DSpeaking of Spirit Week, I thought I'd keep with tradition and share some photos of the girls here. :) A HUGE thank you to my parents for helping with costumes.💓This year, all of the dress-up days have a board game theme. Today's was "Candyland." Oldest Gal and Middle Gal's costumes were so wide, I had to do individual pictures this time. ;)Oldest Gal went as a peppermint. Best costume idea ever! She chose all red and white clothing. We cut a big circle out of cardboard and painted it to look like a peppermint. (She actually did the painting herself.) We added handles on the back and then wrapped the "candy" in clear cellophane to look like a candy wrapper. This whole look cost us $2 because we didn't have red tights. ;) Everything else either we had or my parents had.Middle Gal went as a slice of cake (complete with a cherry on top). This costume is actually one that my mom made for me when I was in high school celebrating Spirit Week. We just added the red beanie ($1 at Walmart) for a finishing touch. (Middle Gal didn't want to wear a paper candle hat with orange and yellow tissue flame like I did.) ;) I think she kind of looks like a Shopkin. She just needs some eyeballs on the front of the cake slice. ;) Little Gal decided to be Queen Frostine from the Candyland game. This was a dress my mom had in her dress-up tote. We added a tiara from Dollar Tree to complete the look. :) Unfortunately, Little Gal's throat started bothering her again, so she wasn't able to go to school. I'm hoping with a day of rest, she'll feel well enough to go tomorrow.***Any of you who follow the American Girl Facebook page are probably aware of some of the changes being made to the dolls this year, and the backlash that's happening from fans. This year, American Girl dolls will start having permanent underwear as part of their lower torso. The reason is supposedly to make playtime easier and to keep the underwear from getting lost, but it seems more like a cost-cutting measure. There are some definite concerns from AG fans on this. Aside from the fact that the underwear can never come off, it seems like a cheapening of the brand. I'm particularly concerned with how this will affect the quality of the dolls after seeing this video from an AGPlaythings member who actually ended up with one of the dolls with permanent panties. I mean, it kind of looks like the doll had an accident in her pants. :( It's possible (hopefully) that this is a defective doll and they won't all look like this.My girls are incredibly disappointed at this decision by the company. It's actually made them think they might not want to add the dolls they've thought about purchasing for their collections. It will be interesting to see what happens with this in the future. All I know is I'm really glad I'm not working in the American Girl marketing or design department right now. ;)In happier news, American Girl has released information about some of the new dolls they'll be releasing this year. Among the more notable releases are Logan, their first boy doll, Felicity, the cherished historical doll back from the archives, a[...]

Beauty and the Beast 2017 Funko Mystery Minis! :D

2017-02-06T20:05:00+00:00

I'm so excited, guys! My mom and aunt went to our local Hot Topic yesterday and discovered these ADORABLE new Funko Mystery Minis:I may possibly have squealed when they sent me the pictures of the boxes from the store. ;)The front of the box features Chip and Belle.Gaston and the Beast are on one side......and the Prince (eep!) and the Hot Topic Exclusive Village Belle are on the other. The back shows all of the available figures from the Hot Topic packages, including three exclusive figures. (I was a little bummed to see they don't have a Cogsworth, even in the non-Hot Topic boxes. Maybe he'll be a Walgreen's exclusive like Rapunzel.)My aunt bought four packages, and after she and mom called me and told me about them, I had them pick out two for me. :)My aunt got Celebration Belle first. Isn't she darling? I LOVE this new dress. Celebration Belle from the back, complete with baby's breath in her hair. :)Next, my aunt got the Hot Topic Exclusive Beast. He's cute, but a little grumpy. ;)Beast from the back. She also got the other Beast figure. I like him a lot better. :)Beast #2 from the back. Each Beast figure has a little tail in the back that sticks out. The detail on these figures is quite amazing. My aunt's last figure was another Hot Topic Exclusive, this sweet Village Belle with her book.Belle from the back.My first figure was Belle in her yellow dress, holding a rose. The interesting thing was, this actually isn't one of the figures that's supposed to be in the Hot Topic boxes! That's okay, though, because she's my favorite out of all the Belles in their yellow dresses. :)Belle from the back.A closer look at some of her details:I was really excited when I felt my next figure through the plastic, because I thought it might be the Prince. Sigh. So close. ;) Gaston is super cute, though, so I can't complain. (And I think Luke Evans is going to be INCREDIBLE in this movie.)Gaston from the back.Gaston and Village Belle look really cute together. And so do Belle and "Happy Beast," as I've dubbed him. ;)My aunt was really sweet and said she'd be willing to trade or let my buy some of her figures since I'm such a big Beauty and the Beast fan. I decided to trade my Gaston for her Happy Beast, and I also bought her Celebration Belle. I'm hoping to eventually find the Prince, Chip, Mrs. Potts, and Lumiere. And maybe another Village Belle. ;) AFTERNOON UPDATE: Okay, guys, I just couldn't help myself. :} I stopped by Hot Topic before I picked the girls up from school and picked up three more boxes. And would you believe I got just what I was hoping for? :DLeFou, the Prince, and another Belle in her ball gown.Well, okay, I wasn't hoping for LeFou, but he's still pretty cute. ;)LeFou from the back. And he looks great with Gaston."And I've got my sight set on that one.""The inventor's daughter?""She's the one! The lucky girl I'm going to marry." I could go on, but I think I'll stop there. ;)The Belle I got was the other Hot Topic exclusive one. I love the way she's lifting her skirt so elegantly. Belle from the back. She looks great with Mimi's Hot Topic Exclusive Beast. The one I was most excited about was this guy. I was really hoping to find the Prince! :DThe Prince from the back.A closer look at that fancy hairdo. ;)Doesn't he look darling with Belle in her Celebration dress?I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE TO COME OUT!!! :DSo my aunt and I have worked it out. I'm going to trade my newest Belle in her ball gown for Mimi's Village Belle, and I'm going to trade Le[...]

Beauty and the Beast: Sharing my Obsession with the Doll Club ;)

2017-02-04T04:10:00+00:00

Well, I officially survived having eleven house guests on Wednesday. ;) The house cleaning wasn't all that fun, but I loved decorating with my Beauty and the Beast stuff and talking about my most obsessive collection. ;)Here's the display I set up in the living room. It was so much fun to arrange my dolls and to use my vintage Belle sheet for one of the tablecloths. One of the ladies joked, "Hannah, I don't think you have enough Beauty and the Beast dolls." ;)This table featured mostly my Mattel Beauty and the Beast dolls. This table had my Disney Store dolls, with a couple of Mattel and Hasbro thrown in in the background. Oh, and my new Funko Pop Beast and Belle in the front. :)You might notice a brand new set of dolls among the rest...Yep, I decided it would be a good idea to have a doll set from the new movie for the meeting. That way I could discuss Hasbro's takeover of Disney dolls and the new live action movie. It was a sacrifice to add more to my collection, but I guess I'm just all heart. ;)I purposely waited to get this set until the Disney Store announced their doll releases, just in case they released a Prince doll. Sadly, as you all probably know, they didn't, but at least Hasbro released one. And while Belle doesn't look much like Emma Watson to me, the Prince could definitely pass for Dan Stevens. I'm a bit bummed by the lack of articulation on the Prince and his white, plastic legs. However, since I'm not planning on deboxing them, it's not as big of a deal for me. I'm wondering how easy it would be to rebody him if I ended up with another set in the future...Beautiful Belle, as portrayed by Emma, on the back of the box. (I LOVE this dress!!)But now, back to the meeting. ;)I had a lot of fun decorating the table for my guests. Funko Cogsworth and Lumiere took center stage with my very own "enchanted rose."I found these adorable little "glass" domes, which are actually plastic, at Michael's, and filled them with dessert erasers I found in Target's Valentine's Day section. Not only did they make cute decorations, but they were perfect party favors to send home with all of the guests.I found this lighted glass dome at Tuesday Morning. All I had to do was add a fake rose and some fake rose petals, and I had a perfect enchanted rose display. My mom prepared all of the food and refreshments. We set up this little drink area near the table. (Sorry, I didn't get any pictures of the food.)And see, I even got my house clean in time! ;)I had to share a couple of photos of my group:I wish I could fully express how dear each and every one of these ladies has become to me. They've become my extended family, like a huge group of grandmas and great aunts...and friends. I'm so thankful to have them in my life. Even though they collect antique dolls, they're always very supportive of my more modern collections. I consider myself their link to the modern happenings of the doll world, and they are my educators on dolls of the past. It's beneficial for both sides, I think.P.S. My favorite part of the above picture is my mom peeking through the kitchen opening. Can you see her? :)At the end of the meeting, I talked about the upcoming live action movie and played the newest trailer for the ladies. The best part? Most of them talked about how great it looked and how much they were looking forward to seeing it. :)Did you miss the trailer? You can see it HERE and SQUEAL like a little girl the way I did. ;DOverall, it was a wonderful day full of food, friends, a[...]

Hey There...Remember Me?

2017-01-22T08:02:00+00:00

The one who used to post on this blog at least once a week...usually? Yeah. Just thought I should stop by and let you know I'm still alive.I don't really have a valid excuse, other than the usual "my life is so crazy right now" thing. ;) The holidays were nuts, Hubby's work shifts have been all over the place (night shift, day shift, away from home for a week shift, etc.), I've been working on several projects...the list goes on. And, to be honest, the farther behind I got, the harder it was to get back to the blog. (I'm really good at avoidance when I'm overwhelmed.) ;)I knew it was time to shape up and post SOMETHING when someone left a comment on my Facebook page today, asking if my blog was still functional. :}So, Merry Christmas and Happy 2017! (Hey, at least I posted in time for Valentine's Day...a whole three weeks early!)As usual, I have several posts in the works (when do I NOT have posts in the works?), part of my aforementioned avoidance/overwhelmed thing. ;) I thought for this post, though, I'd briefly share a bit of what I've been up to since you last heard from me, and then share a few things I'm looking forward to.ChristmasOur family had a lovely Christmas together, though it was quite different from years past. For one thing, this year Christmas was held at my mom and dad's house instead of my aunt's. Due to financial issues related to medical issues, my aunt had to move this year, so her home was no longer available to us. It was a bit crowded, but we survived just fine. ;) It was great to all be together once again. And I have to admit, there was something special about spending Christmas in the home of my childhood, thinking back on old memories. :)Watching Papa's train go around the base of the Christmas tree. All ready for Christmas morning!Interestingly enough, I didn't bring a doll or toy to Christmas this year. It was all I could do to get the people in my life packed. ;)I did manage to get pics of the display the girls and I set up for my mom's living room, though. :) Doll CustomizingThe girls all got Pullip dolls this year, which was super exciting for them. Middle Gal got a "Make it Own" Pullip set, and did a fabulous job customizing her doll.Pretty good for an almost eleven-year-old. ;)This got all of us on a doll customizing kick. My daughter has taken her reborns out shopping with us and of course she (is 6 years old) gets sick of carrying them so I end up having to carry them. I am caught in a difficult position. Do I nurse this baby like its real and people will think I am a nut who nurses dolls OR do I just carry her around like she is my daughters doll that I now have to cart around? If the woman gets too attached to the reborn and loses grip of reality, it might not be. On a healthy level, it helps to deal with the loss by allowing for temporarily forgetting the pain of it. Being busy with taking care of the reborn will help her get her head filled with such activities as to prevent dwelling on the hurt. On the other hand, they might take the reborn doll too seriously and the idea too concretely that it might resolve the grief. That's where it becomes unhealthy and threatens the mental health of the woman.Truthfully, the only difference between you and Christmas Decorations experts is time. Reborn Baby Dolls And Expectant Moms

2016-12-16T07:53:01+00:00

0-1 Year olds: As I've mentioned before, expensive toys are really not necessary at this age. Get anything that makes a rattle, mixed with a few fluffy stuffed animals. This will be more than enough to keep them happy, both boys and girls alike.Maybe you've been trying to keep the passion alive in your relationship. You've bought some sexy lingerie and it did keep things interesting for awhile, but over time, the sizzle has turned to fizzle. Don't fret, it's just time to turn the fire up a bit. Let's consider leather lingerie as the next act in your passion play.Reborn Baby Dolls 1) Floradora (1894) - The doll has a marking "Made in Germany/AM/Armand Marseille" with the mold number 370. The doll measured 19 to 20 inches tall, had a cloth body with a pair of glass eyes, and a slightly opened mouth.Leather Teddies are another popular choice when buying leather lingerie. While they don't offer the figure shaping of a leather corset, many women find them to be less restricting and more to their liking. They also come in a wide variety of styles and perhaps blended with lace or adorned with metal buckles, chains or studs for a very dramatic look.Other nursery decoration ideas for a little boy include race cars and spaceships. Big kids aren't as interested in Bratz dolls because they don't find their personalities interesting. The fact that they released Baby Bratz really proved that they were not trying to aim for an older age group at all. While it may be okay for pre-teens to play with the Bratz dolls because they are able to separate their perceptions of themselves and the dolls better, pre-teens are typically not interested in reborn dolls at all anymore, and they weren't even asking for the original Bratz.Fill [...]

Hannah's Last-Minute Gift Guide

2016-12-15T01:18:00+00:00

Wow, these past two weeks have flown by so quickly. Hope you've all been enjoying this holiday season. It's always a challenge to slow down and focus on my family and the reason we celebrate: the birth of Christ. I feel like this year I've done a better job with that. My house is a mess and I'm horribly behind on blogging and Christmas cards, but I've made some great memories with the girls and my hubby. :)The craft fair I mentioned in my last post went very well for the school. We personally didn't sell a whole lot at our booth, but we still had a great time of fellowship. And now, we have lots of ready-made Christmas gifts. ;)This week is the last week of school for the girls, so once we get past Friday, things will be slightly less hectic. That being said, I'm not sure how much posting I'll get done this month. I have a couple more posts I'd like to share before the new year, but we'll see how things go.In the meantime, I thought I'd share some of the fun doll and toy-related stuff I've found over the past few months, giving you some last-minute gift ideas for the kids and collectors in your life. ;)Shoppies and ShopkinsLil' ShoppiesSome new Lil' Shoppies have started making an appearance. So far, I've seen them at Justice and Walmart. They retail for $4.99 at Walmart. They're a little more at Justice (I think around $7 or $8), but it works out to about the same price if you shop their sales.First up is Riana Radio. She's part of the "Slumber Bear Party" set. Each of the new dolls are part of a new line of Petkins that complement a line already in production. So the "Slumber Bear Party" stuff coordinates with the "Dreamy Bear" line already released. The back of Riana's package.Next up is Kristina Apples, who is part of the "Kitty Dinner Party." This coordinates with the previously released "Kitty Kitchen."The back of Kristina's package. Finally, we have Tiara Sparkles, who is also part of the "Kitty Dinner Party."The back of Tiara's package. The pamphlets in their boxes show the new dolls and sets:And here are the three new gals deboxed. Riana comes with journal and pen Petkins, Tiara comes with candle and candlestick Petkins, and Kristina comes with a pie and a separate slice. All three are super cute, but the girls and I all like Tiara the best, just because of her sweet face and adorable accessories. We also noticed a new "Sparkle Hill" Happy Home set at Walmart. This set includes exclusive sparkly furniture and comes with another new Lil' Shoppie character, Lucy Smoothie, instead of Popette. It retails for the same price of just under $30.ShoppiesThere are plenty of regular-sized Shoppies to choose from in stores, too. At the beginning of November, I finally gave in and purchased one of my favorites, Rainbow Kate, to go with my Donatina. Rainbow Kate in her packaging. The back of her package. Here she is with all of her Shopkins and accessories. I love Rainbow Kate's color scheme. She's a throwback to my 80s childhood. ;)Here she is with my Lil' Shoppies Rainbow Kate. And here she is with her new friend Donatina.Of course, the newest offering from[...]

Of Story Submissions and Craft Fairs

2016-11-29T18:37:00+00:00

Hey guys! Just wanted to check in with you real quick. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and found some great Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. ;)I'll be spending my day getting my book submission done for a small publishing company I'm interested in. The deadline for submissions is tomorrow, and I've been busy (and procrastinating) all month, so today I have to buckle down and get busy. ;)The girls and I are also preparing for the school's Christmas craft fair fundraiser, which is this Saturday. Here's a look at the craziness of craft fair prep:I thought glitter might be a fun addition to our crafts. Little Gal thought so, too. Unfortunately, I didn't think about how much glitter spreads, especially when the packs accidentally open in the middle of application. We had glitter on our clothes, our faces, the table, the floor, the puppy, and even Hubby. Maybe we'll skip the glitter next time. ;)Some of our finished Sculpey ornaments:  In spite of the craziness of supervising three creative girls and trying to get all of this stuff done in time, I'm so glad we did it. The school is facing a pretty big financial crisis right now, to the point that there might not even be a school next year. :( We are praying that the Lord will see fit to keep it open for many years to come, but in the meantime, it's great to find practical ways to get involved in helping the school, especially for the girls.I hope to have another "real" post up by the end of the week, so stay tuned. I also hope to get caught up on blog comment responses. On that note, I just wanted to say that I truly appreciate reading each and every one of your comments, even if I don't respond to them right away. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. They always brighten my day. :)[...]Hey guys! Just wanted to check in with you real quick. We Loved Moana! :D

2016-11-24T04:57:00+00:00

Last night, my mom, my aunt, and I all took the girls to see Disney's latest. And, as usual, Disney didn't disappoint. Moana was a great film with beautiful music, stunning animation, lovable characters, and a strong female lead whose motives of kindness and doing the right thing made her a heroine my daughters could look up to. I don't want to give any spoilers away, so I won't go into anymore detail, but I highly recommend this movie. There was pretty much no objectionable content, aside from some very mild toilet humor (that was actually kind of hilarious) and one unfinished "son of a..." phrase that stops right there. As this film strives to be a faithful representation of the Polynesian culture, elements of their beliefs are included in the film, but even as someone not holding to these beliefs, I was able to enjoy the film and the overall message it gave. I also feel that learning about other cultures is important, so that we can understand the worldview of others and where they're coming from. If you'd like a more in-depth review, you can check out Plugged In's take on the film HERE. I had hoped to have my review/comparison of the Disney Store and Hasbro Moana dolls up by today, in celebration of the movie's release, but we had company and a music practice that took up most of my blogging time (well worth the interruption on both counts). ;)So, to tide you over, I thought I'd share a few photos from the movie theater, especially since Disney Store Moana joined us. ;)The girls with the movie poster. We each took turns posing Moana in front of the poster. This is my pose.Little Gal did this one.Middle Gal chose this pose. And here's Oldest Gal's pose. Here is Moana waiting in line for our theater to begin seating. (Little Gal came up with this pose. I was especially thankful I'd brought Moana at this point of our night. Little Gal was having a tough time waiting, so playing with a doll made for a good distraction.) ;)Moana, waiting for the movie to start. (And no, I didn't take this photo during the trailers, in case you were concerned. ;) It was during the "First Look" segment at Cinemark.) We had a great time, and the girls have been singing "How Far I'll Go" and "You're Welcome" nonstop ever since. The only song we didn't like? "Shiny." I think I could handle never hearing that one again, although it's not as bad with the animation. Definitely not one I'd listen to very often. :}And here are a couple of photos from the upcoming review, with a few abbreviated thoughts from me:This. Doll. Is. Gorgeous. Probably one of the most stunning Disney Store dolls I've ever purchased. A great gift idea for Moana fans or collectors. She retails for $19.95.The hair shouldn't be brushed and will probably be a matted mess after a lot of playtime, but it's gorgeous right out of the box, and a spot-on representation of the movie. I love Moana's beautiful f[...]

Posts in the Works and a Fun Thrift Store Find! :D

2016-11-21T21:15:00+00:00

Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing well and enjoying the beginning of your Thanksgiving week. :) I wanted to stop by to let you know that I'll be working on some of my promised posts this week (and answering comments...sorry I'm so behind again!). In the meantime, I wanted to share a super exciting find from my local Goodwill.I was browsing the toy aisle last week and picked up an 18 inch doll, thinking it was one of the typical Our Generation dolls or other similar lines I often find there. Imagine my surprise when I discovered it was an American Girl doll! 😄 (Completely Unrelated P.S.: Blogger now has emojis! Hooray!)Here she is! After doing some research online, I discovered that she is actually a fairly new release. She's Truly Me #60.Her hair was tied in a rubber band, but thankfully just needed to be brushed and was not damaged. Her face had a few rub marks that came off easily with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Her biggest flaw was this chewed up thumb on her right hand. I'm guessing this right here is why such a new doll was already at the thrift store. Her price? $3.19. 😲 Her hair brushed out beautifully. I found her an outfit from my doll clothing stash. I love the pastel pink of the hat with the blue of her eyes. 😊 I got a couple of pictures of her outside. I will probably try to use some extremely fine sandpaper to smooth some of the rough edges on this thumb. But I figure it will be part of her backstory. She also has a slight imperfection on her nose, almost like she got dropped and dragged for a bit or something. But she's still super cute...especially for under $4!I've decided her name is going to be Iris. I haven't decided on a middle or last name yet. (Suggestions are welcome.) I know so far that she's going to be another Whovian like Alice, except Iris' favorite Doctor is the Eleventh Doctor (Alice likes Ten the best). I've also decided she's going to be a fan of The Flash, a TV show I really enjoy. (And yes, Iris West's character is how I thought of my Iris' name.) I'm in the process of getting a Flash Funko Pocket Pop for her collection. Oh, and she's going to be into art, too.I know some of you have mentioned how much you miss hearing about my 18 inch dolls (or any 18 inch dolls in general) on this blog. I apologize that they've kind of been out of the spotlight for so long. Part of that is due to the fact that my interests have expanded and changed some since I started blogging, and part of it is just because I've tried to focus on smaller things recently that are more friendly to my current budget. 😉 I'll try to be better about featuring my 18 inch girls more often. Iris and Alice look darling together. I'm sensing the start of a[...]
