9 Things You Should Know About Yoga for Children

Here are some guidelines and realistic expectations for parents, who are considering Yoga for their children. For your child, Yoga is much more than a kid’s fitness class. Just like adults — kids need time to learn to deal with life’s daily pressures, too.Make sure your child starts with easy postures, and be patient with your child’s progress. Some beginner children can often be more flexible than advanced adult Yoga practitioners, but they dont know their own limitations.Discover your child’s real passions. When your child wants to go to Yoga class, it is much better than what you want for your child. This is not to say that you should avoid guidance. However, it is not advisable to push a child into a Yoga class, if your child doesn’t enjoy it — no matter how popular Yoga may be. All children are different, and what is good for one of your children, may not agree with another.Encourage your child to see the deeper benefits of Yoga: Learning to live within the moment, and appreciating the present situation, instead of focusing on desires, these are built-in mental assets of Yoga practice. Enhanced concentration skills are another benefit that will result in improved academic performance.Look for a qualified Yoga instructor, who has experience in teaching children. Make sure the child’s Yoga instructor has adequate experience.Watch your child practice, with his or her, Yoga teacher, and make sure you are comfortable with the environment, policies, and safety guidelines. Rules and discipline policies are usually in place so that each child can learn Yoga and get the most out of their experience. For your child’s safety at home: Parents who are not familiar with Yoga, should not let their beginner Yoga children practice anything beyond beginner techniques, without a competent Yoga instructor’s approval. Once your child’s Yoga instructor gives approval of home practice, you are fine. This one safety factor should encourage parents to learn Yoga, practice with their children, and live a healthy life.A smaller kids Yoga class is actually better than a larger one. This insures that your child’s Yoga instructor can pay close attention to each student during practice session.Price should not be the top factor in choosing your child’s Yoga teacher.Would you choose the cheapest dentist, clothes, or car? Very often, you get what you pay for. What Everyone Ought To Know About Yoga For KidsYoga can be done by anyone, young, old, even kids. With a little help, even toddlers can do it.Even though it’s simply introduction to yoga and done with a little bit of game playing, it doesn’t mean that kids cannot get the benefit out of this particular sport. The benefits are:•To be healthier and help obesity in children. By taking yoga class, kids are triggered to move. Nowadays, because of the computer games, kids move less than they ought to.•To control their stress. Yes, children can get stressed out, too. Being over scheduled, tough competition in school, peer pressure, all are the cause of your kids’ strain. Yoga can help them to get relaxed. Their ability to control their breathing can be applied to deal with problems they face in real life.•Better concentration. Controlling breathing is a way to learn how to focus. Real Yoga: Voyage Into The Self!

Yoga has become an interesting fitness trend in America. Incidentally, Yoga can be an excellent way to get in shape, lose weight, etc. If this is all you do with Yoga, though, you are missing quite a bit.Yoga is another method of contacting and expressing the self through the body. If you pay attention, going through these exercises will give you a chance to become more familiar with your body. When you learn to maintain a state of deep focus (through Yoga or any other exercise), you will begin to gain deeper and deeper insights. Properly focused Yoga practice will not only make your body more limber, it will also create greater flexibility of perception. Increasing flexibility of perception is how we start to open the doors to true freedom! So how do we use our focus to deepen our Yoga practice? There are a variety of methods, but I will give you three to start with. To have a deeper experience while practicing Yoga, you can focus on the muscles being stretched, the breath, or the feet.Focusing on the muscles being stretched is very powerful. As you relax into the posture, you can smile into these muscles, and deepen the stretch. Sometimes (particularly for beginners) focusing on the active muscles seems to amplify discomfort. If this is the case, then you can loosen your focus to the general area of the stretch, or choose one of the other objects of focus.Focusing on the breath is a classic meditation as well as an excellent method of deepening your practice of Yoga. Breath-work in Yoga is typically referred to as Pranayama. If you are doing a Yoga workout, switching asanas (positions) to work up a sweat, the best thing to do is mindful diaphragmatic breathing. Breathe deep into the belly and pay attention to the sensations that arise in conjunction with the breath. If you are holding a single asana for an extended period of time, you can use the same breathing method, or you can play with the breath of fire. The breath of fire is rapid diaphragmatic breathing; see if you can use your abdominal muscles to draw in a deep (not long) breath and exhale the breath quickly. Start slowly with the breath of fire, and add speed as you grow more comfortable. The final point of focus that we will cover for Yoga practice is the feet. Focusing on the feet has a very grounding effect; it reminds you of your connection to the Earth. If any of the other methods are too uncomfortable, or if you find yourself getting distracted, you can always bring your focus back to your feet. Pay attention to your feet, and how you connect with the Earth as you transition through asanas.Regardless of which point of focus you choose, you will gradually develop more and more mindfulness. This can transform your experience of Yoga. One of the many benefits of having an active meditation (Yoga, a martial art, walking meditation, etc.), is how easy it is to bring it into the rest of your life. Still meditation (sitting or standing) is also very useful, but the state of insight gained there is a bit more difficult to carry into your day-to-day routine.Yoga is a powerful method for health and growth. As you develop your focus and insight in your Yoga practice, you will be able to enjoy more insight and awareness in every moment of every day! [...]

Learn The Art of Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is an energetic and dynamic kind of yoga and is based on synchronising the breath through a progressive series of postures.

Yoga subscribes to the idea that by using breathing and relaxation techniques, the detrimental effects of tension on the body can be eliminated, or at the very least very much reduced and means oneness, as a result it is to see the wholeness of all things instead of the falsely perceived separateness of the character.

Ashtanga yoga is for persons who want to build up strength, stamina and a number of body flexibility and takes its name from the eight limbs of yoga which include moral, physical and spiritual practices, which are taught in a lot of classes, as a rule more as a result in yoga studios.

Ashtanga Yoga is done as part of a series quickly moving from one posture to another and once the standing poses are completed, you'll be sufficiently warmed up to commence the sequences that are unique to each series.

The practice of Ashtanga is with a predefined set of postures always in the same order combined with explicit breathing exercises and the postures are carried out rhythmically in an athletic approach with the emphasis being on flow.

Used throughout the Ashtanga series, it keeps the breath steady and controlled and draws the minds attention inward, facilitating meditation in motion and as a complete mind and body workout, Ashtanga Yoga helps to turn up concentration, reduce anxiety and loosen muscles.

It consists in discovering a marvellous truth roughly ourselves: We are not merely a particular body, mind, or personality, however the very foundation of all bodies, minds, and personalities-in fact, of all animate and inanimate things in the universe and searching deep into our mind and heart, we learn to go above our everyday limitations and determine that we are immensely vast, surpassing even Nature itself.

Pattabhi Jois account of ashtanga yoga emphasizes a energetic method to the asana (posture) and pranayama (breath control) components of classical ashtanga and according to Pattabhi Jois, defects in the external practices are correctable.

Vinyasa Yoga is a system that uses postures in a graceful manner, involving each posture with a breath and has since been thought of as a physically problematical practice, which can be successful at channelling the hyperactivity of young minds.

Hatha Yoga is a wide-ranging term that describes yoga classes that chiefly consist of yoga postures and Hatha yoga itself can be broken down into several diverse subcategories, or types of yoga classes that you may find when you are new to yoga practice.

For prolongation of sexual union and ecstasy the following asanas and bandhas are of special interest –Padmasana (Lotus pose) - The padmasana is a basic and versatile pose symbolizing man’s spiritual growth, evolution, purity and peace. Padma means lotus. It is called padmasana because it is in imitation of lotus more in nature than in appearance. This posture is classic for meditation and pranayam.Techniques –• Sit erect on the floor with both your legs stretched in front.• Bend the right knee folding the leg and put the foot high on the left thigh.• Bring the left foot similarly and place it high on the right thigh.• Both the knees should touch the ground and keep both the heels near navel. Keep the soles of the feet up turned.• Spread out the arms and place the palms on the knees. Make a loop of the index fingers joined and stretched.• Change the legs after some time. Now, keep the left leg first and then the right leg. It helps in developing the legs evenly.• In the beginning you may feel pain in your knees and ankles, but practice makes it comfortable even for longer sessions.Effects• In this posture pelvis gets richer blood supply and tones up coccygeal and sacral nerves.• It keeps the mind alert and steady and ankles and knees supple.• For pranayama it is the best and the mind grows calm and clear.• The erect spine makes one’s concentration strong and lasting. It helps in the awakening of Kundalini as it can be maintained for hours at a stretch without any discomfort.• This pose also helps in removing constipation. During this meditative pose the production of carbon dioxide is reduced to the minimum.Mula bandha - Mula literally means the root, source, foundation of the basis. In it, the portion between anus and scrotum is contracted and raised. This prevents apaana escaping from the lower body and draws it up to unite with prana.Techniques –• Sit in padmasana or siddhasana. Stretch your hands and fingers in Gyana Mudra• Inhale deeply and retrain it. Press the chin against the chest in chin lock.• Contract the region of lower abdomen between the anus and the navel towards your spine and pull it up towards the diaphragm.• Now, contract and pull upwards the abdominal muscles and remain in the posture for a few seconds.• Release the grip and sphinec and abdominal muscles, remove the chin lock. Exhale slowly and evenly.• Repeat the cycle 3-5 times.Effects• It prevents apaana escaping from the lower body and draws it up to unite with prana.• It increases sexual retention power and gives a person of great moral and spiritual power.• It helps much in awakening the dormant kundalini by preventing the dissipation of pranic energy and changing it into a physical force.Disclaimer: This article is not meant to provide health advice and is for general information only. How To Treat Lower Back Pain And Depression With Iyengar Yoga! - New Study - Nurse's Report

How To Treat Lower Back Pain And Depression With Iyengar Yoga - If you're suffering from chronic lower back pain and are looking for exercises or some way to treat it without medications or want to find some way to get pain relief and quit taking any drugs, a new study may help you. The NIH, the National Institutes of Health, funded the study designed to compare pain medications with a particular style of yoga for treatment of lower back pain.

As you may know if you're having chronic pain or chronic lower back pain or any pain in the lower back it can cause you to be depressed. Depression just seems to go along with it and for good reason, but in this new study, depression is also relieved in the course of treatment.

The people in the study were divided into two groups. One group was taking the usual pain medications and the other group practicing yoga two times a week for about six months. The type of yoga was Iyengar. Created by using particular movements of the muscles Iyengar yoga focuses on body alignment. It differs from other styles of yoga because it uses wall ropes, chairs and blocks.

These supports are used to help support the body during postures, otherwise called asanas. They help decrease any pain in the muscles and joints. For people new to Iyengar yoga the supports make yoga easy to learn.

At the end of the six months, the people in the Iyengar yoga group had reduced pain and greater function and significantly reduced their symptoms of depression more so than those who took pain medications. And amazingly, after another six months after the study had ended they continued to reap the benefits!

Once you take a class in Iyengar yoga, you can do most of the postures at home with your own supports. If you've been suffering from chronic lower back pain, it's certainly worth a try. It's always good to find alternative treatments for chronic lower back pain to help reduce or stop pain medications if you're taking them and avoid possible dependence or addiction.

Iyengar yoga is easy to learn and can be done at home. In this study, just the twice a week sessions over the six months showed significant improvement so it's well worth the effort.

Tap Into the Power of Yoga for Mind and Body Fitness

Tap Into the Power of Yoga for Mind and Body Fitness - Yoga Basics and Variations. While Yoga originated as a spiritual endeavor tied closely to the Eastern religions of Buddhism and Hinduism, modern society has adopted many of its basic tenets as a low impact physical fitness workout. Combining breath control, balance and stretching, practicing Yoga is a great way to enhance flexibility, posture and muscle tone.

There are many options available in Yoga-based workouts, from those designed for stress release to more strenuous workouts intended to supplement weight loss. Whether you are interested in exploring the spiritual side of Yoga, or just want to increase your flexibility and control, there are a wide range of Yoga programs that can be incorporated into any lifestyle.

Exercise Specific Yoga Styles

Power Yoga. One of the most prevalent forms of exercise intensive Yoga is often referred to as Power Yoga. Geared toward toning muscle groups and enhancing control, Power Yoga offers a more intense workout than most other types of Yoga. Based on the Indian Yoga technique known as Ashtanga, Power Yoga is generally comprised of a two hour workout that cycles through several series of postures. The intense aerobic nature of the workout may make this style of Yoga difficult for beginners, but it also provides the most opportunity for body sculpting and muscle toning.

Core Yoga. A relatively new form of exercise-based Yoga, Core Yoga is designed to work on toning the abdominals, thighs and bottom. Many practitioners of Core Yoga use it as an addendum to their regular workout to target problem areas where weight can collect. Like other forms of Yoga, stretching and breath control are the focus of most exercises.

This form of Yoga is also thought to help alleviate back pain, and many exercises originate from the spine. By actively participating in Core Yoga classes, you can expect to lose inches around your waist, bottom and hips.

Beginners Yoga. If you are new to Yoga, or uncertain whether your current level of fitness is up to an advanced Yoga routine, there are many beginning Yoga programs available on the market. Exploring Yoga for the first time can be an enlightening experience, and most beginners go on to more advanced levels once they are comfortable with the basics.

Even beginner Yoga classes will emphasize muscle extension and breath control. Opting for an introduction to Yoga program can provide a low impact workout that will supplement the rest of your fitness workout.

Yoga in Fayetteville

Yoga, in Fayetteville, began at Breathing Space in January 2005. Lisa Lofthouse partnered with Charlotte Sessoms, a massage therapist, to provide a unique healing environment for the Fayetteville, North Carolina community. What began as a dream of providing yoga classes and massage therapy to a small number of clients, has grown into a healing arts center where a person can enjoy not only the unique abilities of three talented massage therapists, meditation instruction, stress management classes, and beginning this year, nutritional counseling.

All the healing modalities of Breathing Space meld together into a wonderful gift to the community. A person may come seeking yoga and end up taking a cooking class, getting a massage, or enjoying a workshop on breathing techniques. The staff at Breathing Space feel that once you walk in the door your needs will be met and if they are not, we will find a way to meet those needs.

The Fayetteville community has embraced yoga at Breathing Space. The classroom holds up to 10 students, and they may range in age from teenagers to seniors. Most students come seeking development and enrichment of body, mind, and spirit. Lisa Lofthouse and Evangelin Brodksy are both 500-hour Kripalu yoga professional level instructors. Lisa came to yoga from a business and fitness background and Evangelin found yoga through dance. Therefore, even though they were trained at Kripalu, their classes are unique and each brings her own life experiences into the yoga classroom.

Kripalu yoga teaches that all you seek and all you need are within you. Through various life experiences and the continued bombardment of external stimulation, most people seek peace outside of themselves, through walks in nature, going to the movies, reading books, etc. Through yoga, you learn to bring your awareness inward, to notice how the body moves when it breathes, how moving one arm or one wrist can be felt in the shoulder or back. When you learn to dive into inner awareness, even if it is simply noticing one breath, you learn to live in the present moment.

Kripalu yoga is a path of awareness, a path of inquiry into whom and what you really are and all that you have to offer to life. When you begin to bring your awareness to breath and movement, you begin to learn how thoughts and emotions are held in the body. This holding of thoughts and emotions creates tension and through the practice of postures and breath, tension is released and a sense of ease comes into the body. When the body is relaxed and at ease, the mind slows down creating a calmer, quieter lifestyle. So what you learn in a yoga class can be taken off the mat and into your everyday life.

When the body is put into various non-habitual movements and postures and the mind is taught to breathe through these types of tensions and to stay soft and centered, a habit of letting go and simply being develops and this can be carried into every aspect of life.

Lisa and Evangelin believe that the more people come to yoga the closer we will come to creating a more peaceful community right here in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Each person who comes to Breathing Space and is touched by the peace they find and has the ability to add peace and harmony to our community. One posture at a time, one massage at a time, one breath at a time can change the world.

Ayurvedic and Yoga Concept of Mental Diseases and Stress

Ayurveda is a "science of life and longevity", a traditional system of medicine of India which considers the mind to be one of the three pillars (tristhuna) on which life depends. The concept of mind (manas prakriti) is both broad and illuminating. Mind is built from different aspects. Buddhi, the intellect is the digestive system of the mind as it discriminates between different aspects of mental 'nutrition'. Manas is that which conceptualizes, analyzes and interacts between our inner sub consciousness and our experience of the outer world. Ahamkara is our 'I' maker and identity former that personalizes every experience. Tarpaka kapha relates to memory. Chitta that is considered to be consciousness and awareness. Prana connects these different aspects into antahakarana, the inner active. It describes three primary qualities of mind or gunas as Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas. Satwa (equilibrium, evolution, intelligence) characterized by lightness, awareness, delight and lucidity, is pure, free from malady and cannot distorted and disturbed in any way. It activates the senses and is responsible for the perception of knowledge. Rajas (activity, agitation) which is most active of the gunas, characterizes motion and stimulation. All wants, wishes, aspirations and erratic-mindedness are a result of the effects of rajas guna. Tamas (inertia) which characterizes heaviness and immunity, produces disturbances in the process of perception (way one thinks) and activities of the mind. Hallucinations, laziness, apathy, sleepiness and drowsiness habits are due to it.According to Ayurveda there are three fundamental mind types or mental doshas, called Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which embody different combinations of the five elements air, ether, fire, water and earth. Psychologically Vata governs feelings and emotions as freshness, nervousness, fear, anxiety, pain. Pitta arouses anger, hate, and jealousy. Kapha is responsible for the emotions of attachment, greed, and long-standing envyAyurvedic treatment aims to rebalance your doshas according to your constitution (also known as your Prakriti), resulting in a healthy body and sound mind.Yoga is a Sanskrit (an ancient Indian language) word which means union of the mind, body and soul. It is an exercise in self-discipline which combines postures with breathing techniques and meditation. When regulary practised it strengthens nervous system, takes one to a deep state of relaxation and tranquility thereby helping people to face stressful situations more positively. The postures stretch limbs and exercises soothe muscles, organs and nervous system while the breathing technique helps to focus and relax at the same time and meditation ensures an overall feeling of well being resulting in a better management of stress. The principle of yoga is that essential thoughts and messages are delivered more effectively when the body is relaxed and the brain is well-oxygenated, helping the body and mind to work more successfully while feeling less tired and less stressed.Three main components of Yoga are Asanas, Pranayama and DhyanaAsanas (Postures) :Natural unblocking effected by yoga postures are helpful to relieve stress out of the individuals who carry a great deal of physical tension in their bodies. It is a form of a slow exercise together with a controlled breathing exercise which promotes a relaxed feeling or eases stress. Savasana, Makarasana, Balasana are few asanas to be practiced to relieve stressPrayanama (A breathing technique) :In this technique an individual do slow and steady breathing - like inhaling through his one nostril and exhaling through other. Which Yoga Type is Right for You?

Not everyone knows there are in fact many types of yoga. For those coming to a class to better their health or just enjoy a few moments of silence and meditation, here's a list of what other classes you might want to try and what distinguishes each from the rest.

Ashtanga or sometimes known as Ashtanga Vinyasa or Power Yoga involves performing a series of postures coupled with synchronized breathing. Since it is done in a hot room, it produces intense internal heat and the sweating caused detoxifies muscles and organs. It improves blood circulation, stamina, flexibility. It is physically demanding thus is not recommended for those just starting out.

Bikram yoga, like Ashtanga is done in a hot room though in this kind, the heat is turned up from 95 to 100 degrees. The sequence of postures performed is usually done twice per session. The extreme heat similarly promotes flexibility, detoxification and prevention of injuries.

Hatha is another form which is considered to be the most popular, and is the foundation of all other yoga styles. It incorporates patterned breathing, posture and meditation into one complete system to achieve enlightenment. The hatha poses called "asanas", together with the breathing techniques ("pranayama") are done in a calm and meditative way. These emphasize purifying and strengthening the mind and body.

Iyengar yoga meanwhile achieves the common results of other known types but executes the poses in a precise body alignment. The poses are held longer and rest for a few breaths before stretching into another pose. It also uses equipment like wooden blocks, cushions, chairs, blankets and straps. This is done to help the less flexible ones practicing yoga.

Restorative yoga on the other hand is far different from all the other types as it eliminates the active postures and focuses instead on the relaxation part. It is very good for people recovering from injuries or illnesses, or anyone who wants relief from stress.

Kripalu is called the yoga of consciousness since the poses are done to release emotional and spiritual blocks. Precise movement is not as strictly imposed. The postures are done in a more spontaneous and softer way.

There are actually many other known methods of doing yoga. These are just some of the most popular and most practiced ones. Whether you just need some time to relax or seeking mental and physical and yes, even spiritual detoxification, you could try for yourself if any of these yoga types could do your body any wonders modern science may not.

Origin of Yoga: Connection With The Mind, Body, And Spirit

Origin Of Yoga: Connection With The Mind, Body and Spirit

Yoga's purpose is unifying the body, mind, and spirit. A series of postures,
breathing exercises, and meditation achieve this connection. With the
integration of the body, mind and spirit, you can attain a physical and mental
balance in your life as well as abundant inner peace.
The practice of yoga begins in the mind. It doesn't matter your physical
strength, flexibility, weight, or experience. Yoga is a practice that you are
encouraged to work at your own pace, never requiring anything more than you have
to give at that particular moment. Yoga is completely for yourself. Practice can
be as intense or as simple as you need it to be. Yoga teachers never push you to
do more than you can do. It's completely your practice, your 30 minutes - 1 1/2
hours (depending on the type of yoga) you are giving to yourself. It is a gift
to you!
When your mind is able to concentrate fully on your yoga practice the
unification of body, mind, and spirit takes place. This is the beneficial
intention of practicing yoga. There are many situations where you may be
struggling with problems and are continuously thinking about them. The problems
keep you awake even at night. Your sleep deprived, stressed, and miserable.
There aren't any immediate solutions and most of your time is spent worrying.
Your mind is so preoccupied and full of difficulties. You are no longer living
in the present moment and find that your happiness is suffering. Along with many
other psychological medical conditions depression may be setting in. Does this
sound familiar? Do you question yourself about being depressed? You may find
yourself taking those quizzes in the doctor's office and notice you answered
"yes" to most of them.
Yoga is a great tool for an overactive mind and alleviating depression. Yoga
when practiced properly, quiets the mind and develops peace and tranquility for
the mind and body. You should try making yoga practice a daily routine in your
life. Dealing with life's difficulties and a unsettled mind will seem less
stressful. You will be better prepared to deal with these problems through
greater mental control and patience. If you looking for something to help you
better deal with stress while improving your physical body through toning,
strengthening and conditioning you cannot go wrong beginning a yoga program.
A yoga program can help you find solutions to problems you may have never
considered. Deep concentration and breathing during yoga develops amazing
listening skills, patience and relaxation allowing your mind to empty. You will
find yourself in a quieter place.

The meaning of the Yoga, for a right beginning

The purpose of all the different aspects of the practice of the Yoga is that to reason the Itself individual (Jiva) with the Absolute or pure awareness (Brahman).

The word Yoga literally means "union." This union frees the spirit from every sense of separation, from the illusion of the time, of the space and of the causality.

Only our ignorance, our incapability to distinguish the reality from the irreality that it prevents us from realizing our true nature. Also in this state of ignorance, the human spirit often perceives the lack of something in the life, something that cannot be reached neither with the realization of a determined objective neither with the satisfaction of a desire. In the life of each other, the incessant search of love, of success, of changes and of happiness are the demonstration that exists in us the conscience of a reality that we warn but that we are not able to reach.

According to the Yoga teaching, reality is for unchangeable and immovable definition and therefore the world, the universe that we perceive in constant movement, is not anything else other than illusion (maya).

The universe that we perceive is only something that overlaps to the reality, that is projected on the screen of the reality as a film it's projected on the screen of the cinema. As when we walk at night we can confuse a piece of rope with a snake, so, without illumination, we exchange what it is real with what it is not, we overlap or we project our illusions on the real world.

The deceptive nature of the temporal reality reflects him in the search from the modern science of the elementary particle, indivisible, of subject.

These searches have brought to the conclusion that the subject and the energy are interchangeable and that the appearance of solidity that we perceive in the subject is created from the movement or from the vibrations: we see to stir a helix and we exchange it for a circle.

Big part of what we perceive as solid it is, of fact, empty space: if we removed the whole space from the atoms that our body they form maintaining only the 'not-space', we would not even succeed in seeing what he has remained.

Yoga is a term sanscrito (from the root yuj or yug) with different meanings: to connect, to link, means used for the union, effort, method, practice, action, self-control, path to get what we don't have, what is obtainable through the knowledge and the practice, union of the individual soul with that supreme.

In the context of the Yoga philosophy, the union happens between the individual soul and the universal soul.

To begin the Yoga it is to know the way to maintain the equilibrium, the serenity, the calm, the self-control, the love; it is the tool to check it own destiny and all of our internal quality; it is To know that the simplicity and the to be satisfied damage the happiness; it is to know the correct way to use completely the strength of the thought and all the other cosmic energies.

A Real Runner's High: Integrating Running, Yoga and Meditation

We've all heard about, or even experienced ourselves, the Runner's High: a pleasant euphoria of endorphin-induced bliss. This is the exhilarating feeling of really taking care of our bodies, hearts and minds. Though the feeling is somewhat fleeting -- a few hours after the exercise session and the feeling wanes. Well, what if there were ways to extend that feeling, perhaps indefinitely, and maybe deepen it to become a more profound experience of happiness and joy? Many individuals are finding the combined disciplines of exercise, yoga asana, and meditation can lead to this result.

A little about each discipline: Any somewhat vigorous exercise will do, not just running. Running, however, is exceptionally convenient -- put on a pair of shoes and get out the door. It can be done in nearly any condition at any time. Trail running even gets you out into nature for a time, maybe offering a more fulfilling experience. The vigorous exercise improves many, many measurable conditions of our bodies; the result being a positive effect on our overall health and wellbeing.

Yoga is gaining significant interest in North America. As it does, the understanding of the practice is moving beyond just the physical postures. Yoga was originally practiced as a means to develop the body's potential for spiritual growth. Now it has been found that regular practice, like running, also has a profound effect on our health. The increase in flexibility, calmness and energy levels has the yoga community growing by leaps and bounds. It also has a significant positive impact on other physical exercise practices, allowing a more efficient creation of energy and greater enjoyment of any vigorous exercise.

Finally, meditation can be thought of as exercise for the mind. We in the States tend to focus on exercising the body, as the results are easily measured. But the mind is more vague in this respect. If we spend a half an hour meditating, have we made our minds stronger? If we do it properly, and with the same conviction of our physical practices, the experts will answer with a resounding 'yes'. Some even say the benefits last longer than physical exercise -- whereas the body will lose conditioning relatively quickly, the mind will retain the gains for an even longer time.

Is It Necessary To Wear Proper Yoga Clothes?

It is imperative to wear proper yoga clothes before doing yoga. Comfort is the keyword and whatever you wear should be such that it does not interfere with doing the poses or make you feel uncomfortable. Free-flowing robes are out and leotards are in. The material of the yoga clothes should also be such that it soaks up the perspiration and does not make you feel sore. Although there are no particular clothes which are a necessity to be worn while doing yoga, looking after the comfort aspect will make you do yoga with full concentration and ease of mind.

Which Fabric Should You Choose?

The range of fabrics used in the manufacture of yoga clothes is simply enormous. Starting with cotton, the material can also be as different as synthetics. You will be surprised to know that even hemp and bamboo are used to make the clothes. Depending on the environment in which you do yoga, the clothes will vary. However, in all cases, cotton is the popular choice because not only does it keep you cool but it also absorbs perspiration. You will feel happy to be in cotton shorts and a tank top as you can do the yoga poses easily.

Does Yoga Have A Particular Uniform?

Whatever clothes you use for sports activities can be used for yoga. Any store which sells sports apparel will give you the needed yoga clothes. You can wear the apparel according to the latest trends in the market. It is always the safer thing to do. But if you want to freak out, you can try something “different”. The colorful, glossy shirt you use for camping can be used as the yoga shirt and your warm-up pants as your yoga pants. In this way, you can experiment with other things as well.

What Does Tradition Say?

If you want to know about the traditional yoga clothes, then you have to understand that yoga was done by the yogis of yesteryear who wore free-flowing robes with a turban. These robes were loose-fitting and shapeless. But such types of clothes act as an impediment for doing yoga. They will tie you down and you might also unknowingly tear your outfit. With the advent of trendier clothes, you don’t have to worry about the traditional ones. The perfectly fitting clothes will help you to do yoga with peace of mind.

Yoga requires you to do a number of twists and turns. You have to also stretch your body in all directions. Unless you wear yoga clothes which are flexible, you will not be able to do the poses effectively. Therefore, perfectly fitting pants, tops or leotards are best for doing yoga. Ill-fitting or baggy clothes will only interfere with your doing yoga. You can make your clothes colorful to suit your mood. Simple clothes are better but you might try several designs if you want to. There are clothes for a person of any disposition. Even pregnant women can buy suitable yoga clothes. All you have to worry about is comfort. Whatever makes you feel content and happy is the perfect clothing for you.
