TRAFFIC ALERT - Repairs Completed on the Ashland Covered Bridge Repairs and is now Reopen to Traffic

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) has announced that the emergency repairs to the historic Ashland Covered Bridge have been completed and the bridge has been reopened to traffic. The damage, which included three of the roof ties as well as cracking some of the sway bracing, was performed in-house by DelDOT North District Maintenance personnel.

DelDOT/DTC Announce Innovative Approach to Construct New Transit Center

As the 11th busiest Amtrak Station, Wilmington's Biden Station serves as the focal point of public transportation in Wilmington. TRAFFIC ALERT - I-95 and SR 141 Interchange Project Will Require Nighttime Ramp Closure

DelDOT' s contractor, Mumford & Miller Concrete, Inc., will continue with the bridge demolition for Phase 1 of the project; install scaffolds; and provide a temporary protection shielding on the Bridge over I-95 and I-295 on SR 141/Basin Road.

During this construction, the ramp will be closed each night.

7 p.m. on Monday, January 16 until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17
7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17 until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18
SR 141 Southbound to I-295 Northbound (Ramp is off of SR 141 southbound, just north of Airport Road)

TRAFFIC ALERT - Inauguration Ceremony Will Require Road Closures in Dover

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) in conjunction with the City of Dover Police, Delaware State Police, and the Capitol Police Departments are announcing road closures on Tuesday, January 17, for the Inauguration Ceremony for Governor-Elect John Carney and Lieutenant Governor-Elect Bethany Hall-Long.

The City of Dover Police Department will enact a parking restriction on Monday, January 16 evening - no vehicles will be allowed to park on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard North and South, Legislative Avenue, and Water Street from Federal Street to Legislative Avenue in Dover. [More]




TRAFFIC ALERT - Ashland Covered Bridge Damaged by Snow Plow will Require Closure for Repairs

In order to perform emergency repairs to the historic Ashland Covered Bridge, the Department of Transportation (DelDOT) has closed Barley Mill Road from Creek Road to Brackenville Road at the Ashland Covered Bridge following a strike by a snow plow. The bridge has incurred damage to three of the roof ties as well as cracking some of the sway bracing. The bridge will remain closed for several days until the district can repair these timbers. Detour Route:

East Trap Pond Road onto Whaleys Corner Road to Route 9 to Substation Road and return to East Trap Pond Road.

DelDOT Battling Drifting Snow and Icy Road Conditions

Crews in Kent and Sussex Counties have spent all day Sunday plowing snow and applying salt to primary, secondary and minor roadways, but overall, made a great deal of progress.

All primary and secondary roads are completed, except for some drifted areas on the secondary roads. Those roads have been treated multiple times with salt and plowed repeatedly because of drifting. [More]

Dover - Overnight, crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation report they made a great deal of progress across the state, removing snow from the state's roads and bridges, and will continue to work through the day today.

Fortunately, the primary roads across the state are mostly snow and ice free, so some assets have been shifted to focus on secondary and minor roads. In addition, crews are working to clear snow from intersections and median crossovers. [More]

While fewer and fewer flakes of snow fall upon the state, crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation will continue working through the night, plowing snow and applying salt.

In fact, the tentative plan is for crews to remain working through Sunday, and possibly some will work into Monday.

Crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation are now plowing snow in all three counties, as snow continues to fall across the entire state.

As one snow measuring station near Selbyville is registering 9.4 inches, DelDOT crews continue working, trying to stay ahead of any significant accumulation on the primary roads.

Most primary roads in Sussex are passable, but have a layer of hard-packed snow, so the Level 1 Driving Restriction will remain in place for foreseeable future. [More]

The first flurries were spotted in Bethany Beach this morning, shortly after 4 a.m., and within the past few minutes snow has begun falling steadily in Kent County.

In Sussex County, there is enough snow on the roads that DelDOT crews have begun plowing for more than an hour. Crews in Kent County are applying salt, and snow has yet to fall in New Castle County. [More]

Officials from the Delaware Department of Transportation have made preliminary plans for salting and plowing operations for this weekend's possible winter storm.

Crews worked through the night from Thursday to keep the roads ice free during a light dusting of snow statewide. While their efforts were successful, another storm will be arriving tomorrow with the possibility of significant snowfall in the lower half of our state. [More]

DelDOT crews plan to work through the night during snow event

With the snow accumulation likely to come later tonight, officials with the Delaware Department of Transportation have made plans for crews to work through the night, either applying salt or plowing snow.

With the goal of making the roads as safe as possible in time for the morning commute, DelDOT crews will initially apply salt, when the snow begins to fall, and if there is enough snow, crews will switch to plowing operations.

Crews spent Wednesday and Thursday pre-treating all of the state's primary and secondary roads with brine, a salt and water mixture. [More]




DelDOT Releases Holiday Toll Numbers / Revenue Rises Over 2015 / 2016 Collection

The Delaware Department of Transportation announces that it collected about $4.5 million in toll revenues through its three main toll plazas during recent holiday travel. During the same period in 2015 / 2016, DelDOT collected about $4.5 million from the same plazas.

In advance of possible snowfall of up to three inches, crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation have been pre-treating roads across the state.

Crews are spraying onto the roads and bridges, a salt and water mixture called brine. The water allows the material to soak into the lower portions of the roads, keeping it there until the snow begins to fall, and the salt can do its job. [More]

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces the launch of the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) website. This program is a community-driven program that facilitates the development of non-traditional transportation projects with the goal of providing choices for non-motorized users that are safe, reliable, and convenient.

"TAP projects are grass roots driven projects that allows communities to determine what their transportation needs are and with the help of local government acting as sponsors, help build connections to enhance walking and biking as well as add beautification to their neighborhoods in the form of landscaping, lighting, or street furniture," explained Ann Gravatt, Planning Supervisor and TAP manager. Residents should avoid driving this morning, because of icy road conditions statewide, says the Delaware Department of Transportation, as freezing rain falling for a few hours, many rural and secondary roads in Delaware are covered in a mixture of ice and slush. The primary roads are largely ice free, but there are sections, over bridges for example, that could have patches of ice.

DelDOT crews pre-treated roads all day yesterday, and have been applying salt since about midnight, but despite these efforts, many roads are ice covered at this hour. [More]

As the season's first snow event possibly happening sometime in the next few days, the Delaware Department of Transportation spent today pre-treating roads, preparing the equipment, and making tentative plans for the next three days.

Crews pre-treated major roads in New Castle today by spraying brine, a salt and water mixture onto the road surface. Brine helps to delay or prevent altogether, snow from accumulating on the surface of the roads and bridges. [More]

The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) advises motorists that a new temporary traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. Route 301 and Warwick Road will be activated to a flash operation at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13.

The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) invites the public to attend a public workshop on the proposed improvements to Savannah Road from Anglers Road to the public beach parking at Bayview Avenue. The public workshop will be held on Monday, December 12 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., at Lewes City Hall, 114 East Third Street in Lewes.

This is a concept plan that will depict pedestrian and bicycle improvements; an observation platform overlooking the marsh; and other amenities for bicycles and pedestrians along Savannah Road. [More]

A legislative update to Delaware Code Title 21 §2715(e) that became law on January 1, 2012 - directing the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to begin issuing 8-year driver license renewals to all drivers - becomes fully effective next week on Monday, December 12. The renewal cost of a license remains unchanged at $5 per year, which equates to a $40 fee for the 8-year period.

The transition to an 8-year plan began in 2012 as an effort to decrease the frequency customers would need to renew. [More]

Traffic Pattern Activated for the New Diverging Diamond Interchange at State Route 1 and Route 72
