City def. a city of population of significant size & importance

1 Cor 6:19 - Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?

The Holy Spirit lives in us. We are a "house" for Him to dwell in.

Hebrews 10:25 - Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Isolation does not lead to success.

When these "houses" get together, they form cities......

and a city on a hill cannot be hidden! (Matthew 5:14)

Sharks, Potential & Environments

You can put a young shark in a small tank & it will not grow into a huge shark that is found in the ocean (huh!? why is that?)

The same is true of the potential of people.

Learning & development environments are crucial to growth. Something I am very much pondering regarding our "youth experience"

Some thoughts -

*Are our environments "arctic" or "tropical"? Do I know my people well enough to know which environments will promote growth & which will hinder? After all, we are all unique!

*Is the environment positive? What is coming out of your mouth?
Your vocabulary is powerful.

*Do you see the environment as a gold mine? See the potential in people?
Michelangelo said that the sculpture of David always existed within the stone!

I will be doing a session on LISTENING soon & I welcome any suggestions regarding activities, games, illustrations that will highlight the importance of listening

If you can help out, please comment or send an email

many thanks

New Starbucks (COFFEE POST for a change)

Today, Starbucks opened a store in my town.

The nearest one previously is nearly one hour away.

I went in for a morning coffee & asked" how long have you been open?"

"about 26 (pause for dramatic effect) seconds" was the reply from the barista.

It was amazing to see the HUGE EXCITEMENT of the entire team that they could get to use the coffee machine. LOUD, LAUGHTER, URGENT, PURPOSE !!!!!!!

Apparently I was the second customer at that store, but the first customer ordered tea.

I wonder how long the excitement of making each individual cup of coffee will last. There was certainly energy there for the first cup of the store. I was blown away. Its great to see people passionate about what they do. That enthusiasm rubbed off on me for the start of my day. thanks.

We have been absolutely blessed by the presence of our exchange student HIKARI (yes, she has the same name as one of the bullet trains!) Hikari has been with us for a few weeks & is likely to stay for 11 months.

As well as the usual Japanese/Australian cultural exchange, we have had our worldview expanded to include the life of a competitive swimmer. Hikari trains near daily in Japan so has joined the local squad here & is gearing up for the local high school carnival & then onto other meets.

Have been taking her there so its been quite a different thing for me but it has been great to encourage her to improve her PB & be a motivator of sorts.

She has fit right in with the family & enjoys our youth ministry too! We had an eye opening prayer experience yesterday - if only I had captured the audio or visual and cast it. A had-to-be-there moment!

What would you like to see at Coffeegrind in 2006?

At the start of 2005, I revamped the look but this time I want to ask you, the reader, would you like a change of pace or topic to go with your coffee?

your thoughts please.......

Current read & listen

Decided to read & listen to something different just to expand my interests & world........

Currently listening to The Veld's self titled ep - these guys are from Central Coast, NSW, Australia, have signed up for distribution through Sony BMG & the singer is 15 I believe?! (not my usual style, but enjoying a few songs).........

also reading "Phaic Tan" a Jet Lag travel destination parody guide by the team of Working Dog who brought us the movie "The Castle"& "The Panel" tv show. It's a knee-slapper!

What are you reading or listening to?

Have been taking some time out over the Christmas break.....have been shopping, doing some Sudoku, drawing some manga (particularly samurai) & tonight I think I may watch the first episode of Samurai 7 (an anime inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, 1954)

Would love to hear from people who either watch or draw anime/manga

Merry Christmas Coffeegrinders

light blogging.....apologies.....hope I still have some readers *gulp*

A new year awaits...................... love, peace & best wishes to all

and Fear Santa! LOL

I would like to use this communication channel to publicly (globally) say that I am sincerely sorry for my thoughts, words & deeds on/thru the internet that may have offended anybody.

Particularly, today I felt convicted about a thread that I posted on several times on another persons blog 11 months ago. I re-read it today & regardless of POV & who is right, I didnt like the "tone" or the heart behind what I was reading.

I ask God to forgive me but I also thought it was appropriate to use this same type of forum to say sorry to the (internet) world.

Matt 26:28 (MSG) - "This is my blood, God's new covenant poured out for many people for the forgiveness of sins."

I'm off to Melbourne next month.......the band I am managing has won thru to the grand final of a battle of the bands comp.....if any Coffeegrinders are up for a coffee, let me know

WOW! Coffeegrind is 1 year old! Thanks to all of the Coffeegrinders, lurkers and commenters. Thanks for the encouragement. When I tried this out a year ago I never knew how richer my life would become by making friends from around the globe.

What a year! A year of overcoming, moving forward, great victories, slayed giants & seeing young people give their lives to Christ, grow in their leadership abilities and reach out to others in practical ways.

(Sorry I havent posted regularly lately......please keep in touch - you are appreciated)

Big Exoday

The Big Exoday is on tomorrow! I have organised a bus to take a crowd of youth there. It is going to be awesome.

I have people still asking for seats on the bus - a good problem to have!

See you on the other side of it. Have a mug & don't forget to smile!

Exodus 27:21 MSG "In the Tent of Meeting, the area outside the curtain that veils The Testimony, Aaron and his sons will keep this light burning from evening until morning before GOD. This is to be a permanent practice down through the generations for Israelites."

A consistency needs to be built in my own life ( a lifestyle pleasing to God) so I can hand a HOT baton onto the next generation.

Keep the fire burning!

Parts of the whole

Exodus 26:6 MSG - "Then make fifty gold clasps and join the tapestries together so that The Dwelling is one whole"

1 Cor 12:12 MSG - "You can easily enough see how this kind of thing works by looking no further than your own body. Your body has many parts--limbs, organs, cells--but no matter how many parts you can name, you're still one body. It's exactly the same with Christ."

"Teamwork makes the dream work" - John C. Maxwell

We are Rock stars!

Matthew 5:14-16 MSG "Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand--shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven."

1 Cor 10:4 MSG - "They drank from the Rock, God's fountain for them that stayed with them wherever they were. And the Rock was Christ."

Reflect the light of Christ - be a Rock star!

Happy Anniversary!

It's our 3rd wedding anniversary today! Can you feel the love?

Revive def.
  1. To bring back to life or consciousness; resuscitate.
  2. To impart new health, vigor, or spirit to.
  3. To restore to use
There is a great discussion going on about revival over at Phil Baker.

Any thoughts in the context of a youth group or church?

A Jesus View

When we are faced with a giant in our life or a challenging circumstance, we sometimes struggle with it because we are simply in "it".

You would have heard how its good to get an opinion of an independent party who is outside the situation or to even look at the bigger picture for the solution.

How about a "Jesus View"?

Psalm 110:1 (MSG) - "The word of GOD to my Lord: "Sit alongside me here on my throne until I make your enemies a stool for your feet."

From where He is seated, things look clearer. The good news is that we can consult He who has this view. We can talk to Him in prayer & we can read His Word. A murky worldview clouded by the circumstance or a Jesus view?!
