Tue, 27 May 2014 12:00:55 +00002014-05-27T12:00:55Z

It's summertime and for some people that means chafed thighs. This is the heat rash that develops when women wear skirts and walk a lot in a super hot, humid climate. When sweaty thighs rub together, they can chafe. There's no shame in this. Look at that skinny model pictured down below. Even her thighs touch in the picture and probably they touched even more before Photoshop was used on her. And she's a model. So let's be nice to our thighs and figure out a solution to this summertime problem.

What to Look for in a Great Facial Cleanser

Fri, 11 Apr 2014 12:00:29 +00002014-04-11T12:00:29Z

My good friend Janine recently called to tell me she just bought her favorite Chanel cleanser which likely set her back at least $50. I hated to tell her after the fact that there's no need to spend a lot of money on a cleanser with special ingredients in it because you're just washing the product down the drain.

You can get a basic cleanser from any drugstore. Look for a mild, soap-free cleanser that's formulated for your skin type. In my article below, I run down the best face cleansers for 5 different skin types: dry, oily, combination, sensitive and blemished. This list includes some of the yearly picks by the staff of 'InStyle' magazine plus the tried and true picks selected by myself other beauty experts.

Who Should Do Her Own Hair Color...And Who Shouldn't

Thu, 03 Apr 2014 21:50:40 +00002014-04-03T21:50:40Z

(image) Many people are perfect candidates for box hair color done at home, but some people aren't. So how to tell the difference? Consider these tips:

  1. If you have gray hairs or brunette hair that you want to lighten up or darken a couple shades then there's no reason you can't do your own hair color, saving yourself 100s of dollars.
  2. If you want to change your hair from brown to blonde or go red or anything drastic, then I highly recommend going to a pro.
  3. Want to add a few face-framing highlights or ombre hair color like Kristin Wig, pictured here? You can do it yourself at home, but it may look better if you let a pro balayage your hair. Finding the right shade is what's most complicated. Hair color is a science, after all, and you run the risk of turning your hair a complete mess of a color.
  4. While there are highlighting kits you can buy to do your own foils or balayage, these are more complicated than all-over hair color and require the help of a friend. Enlist someone to help you, especially with the back of your head.
  5. Covering up a few grays? You can do it yourself, no need to hire a pro.

You may have read that headline and thought, "duh," but it's amazing how many people shampoo their scalp with their nails instead of the pads of their fingers. Doing so ...

I'm currently almost 38 weeks pregnant in the middle of a New York arctic winter (if the media is to be believed). Right now it's 6 degrees outside and 71 degrees inside our 1800s parlor floor brownstone apartment with drafty windows, which means the furnace is constantly running full-blast.
