14 SEO copywriting tips

1. Write well "Content is king:" this is the mantra of every SEO-conscious web developer out there. Google and other search engines love useful, well-written content. If users find your content useful, they will link to it and they will tell their friends about it. When Google finds these inbound links, that page's ranking will rise even higher, which in turn will bring in more visitors. One of the implications of writing well is that you should use as many different words that are as relevant to the title as possible. If your copy uses the same keywords again and again, search engines can tell that the article is shallow and not very useful. Conversely, is you use a wide vocabulary that is pertinent to the topic, search engines will infer that the article is authoritative, deep and useful. Google's ability to determine the true value of a piece of writing by examining words other than the keywords is known as latent semantic indexing. For this reason, it is important to use synonyms of your keywords in addition to the keywords you are targeting. 2. Use the h1 tag for your title Using the h1 tag for your title will make Google take the title extremely seriously, providing the title's words are also present somewhere in the text. The h1 tag allows you to achieve a high degree of focus on your chosen keywords. The h1 tag is one of those golden SEO tips that will improve your search engine results very quickly. You should also use the h2 tag on sub-headings, and the h3 tag on sub-sub-headings. If you make your article hierarchical, Google will give you a lot of respect. 3. Keyword density The keywords that you are targeting should appear at the beginning, in most paragraphs and somewhere near the end. Once you have that down, just focus on producing exceptionally useful and comprehensive content. Do not stuff your articles with keywords, as this is spammy and search engines can tell. You are also a lot less likely to receive inbound links if your copywriting is poor. 4. Bold, italics, underlined When you emphasize a word with italics, underlining or bolding, search engines assume that it is a keyword. Use this to your advantage to tell Google what your keywords are. The flip side of the coin is that you should only use these tags on keywords, or you will confuse the search engines and weaken the effect. 5. META tagsUse your title's keywords in the and DESCRIPTION tags. Google will love it if the TITLE and DESCRIPTION tags are similar or identical. Do not repeat keywords in these (or any other) tags, as this is considered spam. 6. Numbered listsFor some reason people love to link to lists, so try and present some of your articles as numbered lists, along the lines of "10 ways to improve your website's Google ranking." Lists are easy to digest and are popular with bloggers. 7. File namesUse up to 5 keywords in the name of your files. Using keywords in the file name has some SEO benefit. You should also use keywords to name the directory in which the file is. In this way, all your URLs will consist of your domain name followed by keywords that are relevant to the page's content. 8. Interlink your articlesCross-linking your pages will ensure that PageRank is shared among the articles on your website; you don't want a page that massively outperforms the others. Interlink your pages with contextual links whose anchor text is relevant to the target page. In addition to spreading PageRank over your websites, this technique will also help you tell Google what your pages are about. 9. Have useful external linksLinking to useful websites is vital. It has been shown experimentally that, other things being equal, pages with outbound links have a higher Google ranking than pages with no outbound links. You should only link to pages that are relevant to your page's content. You should also make sure that they have not been penalized By Google, or your page will be penalized too. 10. Keyword: WordPress plugins for SEOPartial Match: WordPress pluginsPartial Match: plugins for SEOPartial Match: plugins for link buildingSynonyms: WP plugins for SEOSynonyms: WP plugins for search engine optimizationBoth: Easy WP SEOBoth: SEO Plug-ins for your siteBoth: Build SEO rankings with pluginsLike I said, there’s no single strategy for your variation. The 3 fast and dirty methods I go by: Add terms, remove terms, and use synonyms.2) Optimize Your TitleWe’re stepping into dangerous territory with this tip. Let me remind you that guest blogging has many uses besides SEO and these tips are for improving your SEO without concentrating only on SEO.Including your keyword in the title tag will be very helpful for the relevance of your post. The sooner your keyword appears in the title the better. By using keyword variation, you give yourself a lot more options for creating a title that is both appealing for users and also optimized for your SEO.3) Find Relevant DomainsThe URL is a very important factor on the relevance and power of a webpage. One reason for including your keyword in the title is that it will then show up in the URL on most blogs. You can take this practice one step further by purposely writing for blogs that have part of the keyword phrase you’re targeting in their domain name.I like to use My Blog Guest to search for blogs in my niche. You can visit MBG to find a list of websites in your niche that are actively accepting guest posts.Once you do this you should have a list of sites in your industry. You can mouse over each site title to preview the link URL. This way you can see very quickly if part of your keyword is in the domain.Of course, there are many other important factors so don’t get too concerned with this tactic alone. Check out the recent posts for comments and social activity to get a better feel for the popularity and liveliness of the site. A great result would have at least one word from your keyword phrase in the domain and an active audience.4) Don’t Use Your Resource/Profile for SEOLeaving the SEO benefits of your post to the resource/profile links alone is a mistake. You can use those links to drive traffic to your site by promoting an offer or some other related and appealing page on your website. One of the strongest types of links you can get is an editorial link. An editorial backlink is a link from within the actual body content of a page where only the webmaster can edit the content. It’s a powerful link because only the webmaster has control over this part of the page, and usually webmasters don’t just link to anyone. It’s a sign of trust.5) Link EarlyThe sooner your link the better.Google values links that appear earlier in the content more than those that come later on. It makes sense doesn’t it? If you have an important resource to recommend or [...]

Tips for Promoting Your Forum

2013-03-12T21:55:49.139-07:00
1) Be Unique :The internet is crowded with forums and communities on all sorts of topics. You’ve got to do something to distance yourself from the pack. Whether that’s accomplished through your design, your rules, or offering a certain feature that other forums don’t, you need to be memorable. Think about it, how many forums have you signed up for over the years? If you can’t remember, you’ve just perfectly illustrated my point. 2) Discuss Hot Topics : No matter what your forum is about, there will always be hot topics to talk about - hot button issues that automatically generate conversation and debate. Industry news, technological developments, and current events are all great topics. Starting new threads or discussions about these “hot topics” can create instant conversation and can often be a shot in the arm for your somewhat stale forum. 3) Create a Blog : That’s right, I said blog. Sure blogs and forums are two separate things, but how many of you have clicked over to check out our forums? A great blog post will often attract attention to content that your forum might have otherwise concealed. Blogs are more accessible, less threatening, and require a much lower level of commitment from the average reader. Done right, a blog can be a more gentle way to ease new people into a community. Also, blogs are more “linkable” which allows you to gain even more exposure within your target industry or niche, as well as helping your site rank better in the search engines. This of course will in turn lead to more visitors and hopefully more members. You can also use a blog to reward particularly great posts in your forum. If, for example, you have a member that regularly contributes great threads or topics to your forum, invite them to write an article for your blog. That provides you with more blog content and is just one more way to show your members that you value them. 4) Show your appreciation : This one is really quite simple. Your members need to know you care. About them, about their needs and desires, and most of all, about the forum. As pops mentioned, if your members know that you are invested in making the forum a success, they’re a lot more likely to contribute their time and content. So how do you show your appreciation? Tell them. Send your members emails or private messages thanking them for their contributions, offer some type of reward for your most active members, listen to their requests or concerns about the site, anything that can help you form a bond with your members. 5) Be active : No one likes absentee landlords, fathers, or forum administrators. A forum is going to take up a lot of your time. If you don’t have time to run it, make sure you find someone that does. The forum administrator needs to be active and visible in the community. People need to feel they have a way to address any problems they might have or any disagreements that spring up between members. When activity slows down, and there will be slow periods, it’s the administrator’s job to stir up discussion and activity (this would be a good time for some of those hot topics from point #2). 6) Invite Experts :In any field there are well known experts. If you’ve started a forum on the subject, chances are you know who the top dog(s) is/are. Chances are there is already a discussion about one of their products or theories going on in your forum. If not, start one. Then contact the expert and invite them to join in the discussion. Chances are they’ll jump at the chance. They’ll get some free advertising and perhaps a chance to promote their product, and you’ll have the benefit of bringing more experts into your community. The more experts you have stopping in from time to time, the more well known your forum will become. And really, isn’t that why you’re reading this post? 7) Send out Reminders : As we discussed earlier, people often join a forum, participate for a few hour[...]

The Guest-Blogging Strategy for SEO, Traffic, and Audience-Building

2013-03-12T21:55:49.191-07:00
How to avoid digital sharecroppingGuest posting takes a lot of work, mental energy, and time. So it’s smart to think about how you can get the most bang for your buck. The more strategically you think when you’re planning out your guest blogging program, the more you’re going to get out of it.You need to hold two things in your head at the same time - how this post will benefit the host blog, and how it’s going to benefit your own business. There will be times when you write a guest post to get a single one of the benefits outlined below — maybe to strengthen a relationship with an important content publisher. But as often as you can, try to include every benefit in this post.Pro Tip: Before you write a post, make sure you’ll be able to include at least one relevant link to your own content in the body of the post, as well as an audience-friendly call to action in your bio.1. Guest blogging enhances your authorityWhen you’re getting started with content marketing, you may be incredibly knowledgeable about your topic — but you have little authority, because no one knows you yet.Placing posts on other blogs helps your potential audience start to associate your name with high-quality information. And a bit of the authority of your host blog will transfer itself to you.The more readers see your work, the more authority you will generate. It’s a cumulative process, but one that can happen quickly if you have the ability to put a lot of work in over a short period.Pro Tip: If your topic is so competitive that you’re having trouble placing guest posts, look for lateral opportunities with content publishers who have the audience you want.2. Guest blogging brings in an audience, not just trafficAnyone can buy traffic using pay-per-click or other forms of advertising. And that can be a good strategy. But what you’re buying is just that … traffic.Traffic from a guest post, on the other hand, is already an audience. In other words, it’s already a group of people interested in your topic who are also intrigued by what you have to say. You’ll still need to convert those visitors into a longer-term relationship, by using smart content marketing strategies. But with a guest post, you’ve already taken the first few steps in that process.Pro Tip: In the bio for your post, send traffic to a landing page you set up just for readers of that blog. Use a strong, clear call to action and remember that the content there needs to benefit the reader. You’ll be able to add, refresh, or update content to your page as your business evolves, without having to ask the host blog to update a link.3. Guest blogging builds your publisher networkHow do little content publishers grow up to become big content publishers? They make connections. They develop a healthy network of publishers (large and small) who will help them get the word out.A tweet or link from a big enough publisher (one with a passionate, responsive audience) can get you well on your way to the minimum viable audience that can support your business. You probably won’t start out by writing for the biggest names in your topic. And you don’t need to. Most successful content producers build their networks by writing for sites with slightly bigger audiences than their own, then gradually working up to sites that have more and more readers.Pro Tip: Writing one post for a blog is nice, but writing multiple times for the same blog will bring in much greater rewards. Create a relationship with the blogs you write for, and contribute as regularly as you can. Once a month is often a good rhythm.4. Guest blogging is superb for natural SEOBuilding high-quality links is one of the trickiest elements of effective SEO. Guest posting allows you to get a relevant, natural link, using the anchor text of your choice, on a site that has excellent search engine authority.Just remem[...]

Why Social Media is Good for Customer Service? Top Reasons

2013-03-12T21:55:49.271-07:00
Social media and gadgets are the greatest obsession for the current day world. This is clearly indicating the value and importance of the social media for every business. According to Gartner, refused or failed communication via social media for a business is almost hazardous or harmful for companies. It is almost like ignoring or refusing to answer a phone or mail. Already many companies and businesses are offering customer services via social media networks successfully. There is a scope for 85% of current companies to initiate these services by this year end. Also, it is a significant figure to identify that 63% of the present customer base is into social networking sites. Here, offering customer services via social media platform is definitely not an easiest task to accomplish and it requires predefined organizational structure for every company. Many companies are taking a back step to offer customer services through this platform keeping in mind the abusive and straight forward customers. This is definitely not a tough task to handle. Identify the real value and importance of this platform for your customer services and make good use of it through following some of the proven valuable tips as below. This approach is to keep abreast with the market trends and to offer utmost value to the customer base interests. People are no longer into time taking phone support or email support. People are more into instant support and answers. Ensure the same for your present and prospective customer base through keeping your presence at all popular social networking sites.Let us see some of the tips that are capable enough to turn your customer services more effective and beneficial via social media:1- Open Separate Account for Customer ServiceIt is always good to create separate account for customer service besides having one for the official account that is open for public. Use this official public account for promotional needs and secondary account for customer services. If a customer posts a complaint from main account, then inform the awareness of problem from the customer service account. Start communicating regarding the customer issue through following his/her account. This kind of practice can keep the issue and resolution away from the public account and it will engage the customer within his or her account until resolved. This is a better solution to create effective platform for customer needs and it will not affect the public profile of the company too.2- Respond Quickly to Customer Service ComplaintsIt is always essential and imperative to address a query or complaint or comment from the customer service account within 5 minutes. This kind of faster approach can create peaceful environment between the customer and company for resolving the issues with reduced abusive comments.3- Create User-Friendly and Serene EnvironmentSocial networking sites are nowadays resulting into more virtual. Your customer service should create serene atmosphere for this purpose through creating humanized experience. Respond with each query or complaint or comment along with name. This kind of representation can develop reasonable trust with the customer for the customer service. Answering mysteriously or anonymous can turn the situation more into troublesome.4- Avoid Mysterious/Aggressive ToneRepresentation from the customer services via this platform should sound more concerned and helpful. Being dismissive or aggressive is definitely a greatest disadvantageous for this service. Always remember that you’re on the public platform and being manipulative or tricky can be identified quite easily by one or other quite easily. It is always imperative that information provided through this service should be clear and serene. Customer can collect back your past answers and this would result into further more complications. There should be a clear monitoring system for these s[...]

SEO top 4 Tips for WordPress Websites

2013-03-12T21:55:49.323-07:00

1. Optimize Your Page URLs

You need to take a look at the page URLs on your site. Are they completely unrelated to the page itself? If a URL on you page for example is, it explains absolutely nothing to a search engine about what is contained on that page. However, if you change the URL to something like, then it’s much easier for search engines to determine what is on the page and direct appropriate traffic to your site in the process.

2. Get an SEO Plugin

One of the great things about and open-source content management systems like WordPress is how easily you can develop plugins and extensions, which once easily installed provide certain functionality that the original software cannot perform. One of the most useful tools to install is an SEO plugin. There are a number of good WordPress plugins; all you have to do is search for “SEO plugins” in your plugin manager and you’ll be given a wide choice. Most of these will provide you with the ability to enter important keywords for each page whilst you’re editing it, doing this will improve the quality of your SEO marketing no ends.

3. Link to Your Related Articles

Another plugin to keep an eye out for is a related articles extension. You will have seen related articles at the bottom of the page on a number of news and blogging websites before and they’re a great idea for your WordPress site too if you would like to improve your SEO. Not only do they give you a great internal link structure, something that search engines will take as a sign of your site’s quality, but many of the plugins work on keywords and article tags, which gives you a reason to fill out your tags and improve your SEO in this way also.

4. Create an XML Sitemap

XML sitemaps are extremely important, especially if your WordPress site is reasonably new. An XML sitemap will let a search engine know that your site actually exists and that it should send web crawlers to it in future. You can get a plugin which will create an XML sitemap for you and it will automatically update whenever you make changes to the site. This means that whenever a crawler comes to visit your site, it will be able to establish exactly what content you have and how much importance it holds. Getting a sitemap is an effortless way of optimizing your site.

Reputation Management SEO: 6 Advanced Tactics

2013-03-12T21:55:49.375-07:00
1: Cultivate the Right Social Profiles in the Right WaysA big mistake many in the reputation management field make is to register social profiles at dozens or hundreds of sites and point links to as many as possible, hoping that some will take over those top rankings. This actually dilutes the effectiveness of the strategy, as those links could be consolidated across a few powerful profiles instead, often with much greater effect. The general sites I recommend include (in order of profile effectiveness):Twitter LinkedInYouTubeFlickrFacebookThat said, another big mistake is presuming that just registering a profile is enough to take over the rankings. My experience has been that participating heavily in the sites (for example, on Flickr, uploading lots of photos and sets, making lots of friends, getting others to comment on your photos, etc) can be more valuable to help those profiles rank than just earning external links. This is why if you're passionate and active on a community like DeviantArt, Quora, Armor Games or another niche social site, those can outrank even the big guns of the social world. Regular, authentic partcipation is key. Some additional rules to remember with social profiles include:Name your profiles correctly. If possible, don't use pseudonyms, but rather your full first and last name (or brand name) either as a single word or with hyphensFill out the profiles completely - photos, bio, videos, links, topics, tags - whatever the platfrom offers, take advantage of it fully.Leverage your address book or a list of your social media active contacts - friend/follow/connect with them on each of the platforms.Make new connections on each platform, too. Use OSE's top pages tab to find the most linked-to URLs on the social platforms and see if you can comment, connect or otherwise get your profile linked-to from those pages.Don't forget about relevance - if the page looks unnatural or keyword-stuffed, you risk having the profile banned by the admins of the site and jeopardize your ability to authentically participate and make connections with other people, brands and content.Like everything else in life - nothing worth having comes easy. Invest in your social profiles and they'll reward you with controllable front-page real estate in the rankings.2: Author a Universal Bio with Embedded LinksIf you or your company appear in press, media, at events or even receive mentions and references on the web, there's almost always a stock "bio" or "profile" that's requested by the publisher. This stock paragraph is a remarkable opportunity to link to your various pages on the web in relevant, appropriate ways. For example, let's say I'm crafting a stock profile for SEOmoz to be used whenever we're a sponsor, participant or reference-source in an event/media piece). I'd go with something like:SEOmoz is a Seattle based software startup focused on making SEO (Search Engine Optimization) easy and accessible to all marketers. The company's popular SEO blog serves more than 80K daily subscribers, while their SEOmoz twitter and Facebook accounts interact with thousands more in the social world. For more about SEOmoz, see funding + investors via Crunchbaseand job opportunities on LinkedIn.Notice the multiple links with reasonably good anchor text pointing back to pages we control on the web? This works reasonably well for companies, but is even more effective for individuals, as these "bios" tend to follow you everywhere in your professional/public life. Be sure to follow up when you send these to press outlets, places you're advertising or events you participate in/sponsor to make sure the links are included. 50% of the time or more, you'll need to send a reminder email to make sure they're properly attributing.3: Speak, Invest, Donate &[...]

Online Reputation Management (ORM) – Reverse SEO Services

2013-03-12T21:55:49.457-07:00

(image)

Do you want to know what prospect, customers, and critics are saying about your company? Search engine crawlers show up at your site to try to find out what it's all about and the typical Flash or multimedia home page doesn't give them a lot to work with.Splash pages have been steadily losing popularity but they're still out there, particularly on sites for musicians and other artists. Cool or not, Google expects your home page to have important information about your site and a huge Flash file isn't going to cut it when it comes to SEO. The really terrible thing is some splash pages not only can't be read by search engine crawlers, but they also prevent the rest of the site from being indexed.Understand Keywords for Improved SEOKeywords are the words or phrases that your users submit as a search query to one of the search engines, and they are one of the most important parts of optimizing for search engines. There are a number of important guidelines to follow with keywords that include a few Dos and a couple of Don'ts.DO place keywords in the title. Obviously, search engines pay close attention to the words and phrases placed in your
tag. Using thePage Title module can be a big help in setting separate titles for the page and your content. DO place your keywords in h1, h2 and h3 tags.DO place important keywords at the top of your content. The keywords that are near the top of your content carry more weight than those lower on the page.DO place keywords in your final paragraph. Google understands that important words and phrases are frequently included in a closing paragraph.DON'T engage in keyword stuffing. I can't emphasize this enough! It will hurt your ranking if Google thinks you’re cramming extra keywords into your content so you can boost your results. A general rule of thumb is to keep your keyword density to less than 5%.DON'T use the wrong keywords. If you're not sure which keywords work best for a particular piece of content there are services that can be of help. Wordtracker is one such service, but there are many others. Also avoid overly general keywords. It can be tough to compete on a keyword as common as say, 'Drupal'.One final note about using keywords. It's important to write naturally. If your writing sounds stilted or robotic because you’re trying to put too many keywords into the content, you’re on the wrong path. Creating content that works for both people and search engines takes time, but the effort pays off.Create SEO Friendly URLsBy default Drupal generates URLs that look something like: As far as SEO is concerned, this is a problem. Fortunately, help is at your disposal with clean URLs and the wonderful PathAuto module. Clean URLs is actually a setting in Drupal which can be enabled if your web server has the Apache mod_rewrite module installed.PathAutho is possibly one of the most powerful Drupal SEO modules and will allow you to leverage the power of the Token module to get your URLs in shape. I would recommend using it to make sure descriptive, keyword-filled URLs are a part of every node you publish.Nurture Inbound LinksA big factor in search rankings is having inbound links to your website. But this is definitely a case where quality trumps quantity. I've seen people spend a lot of time trading links with low quality sites that seem to specialize in little else. Google is quite good at identifying a link from a reputable site vs. one from a link farm, and if you're spending your time on the latter, it's time wasted.Create Quality ContentEarlier this year Google released an update to its search algorithm called Panda. Overnight, many web managers saw their sites disappear from search listings.Matt Cut[...]

The Top 10 SEO Blogging Tips

2013-03-12T21:55:49.591-07:00
1) Content FirstThe best thing you can do for your site is publish quality content. Too many bloggers today focus on other SEO blogging tips to the detriment of their blog quality. The other tips in this article and other articles all require a base layer of great blog posts. If you have great posts, improving your search rank or ranking for new keywords will be easy. Without great posts, you’ll have to work several times as hard for the same results. But WARNING: Just remember that content is not the only king. You should never rely on great content alone.2) Get Incoming LinksAlthough Google relies less on PageRank now than ever before, the number of incoming links is still the most important thing about your site to Google. But getting incoming links can be hard. The best way to get incoming links is by getting people to link to your site—and the best way to get people to link to your site is to get them to read your site. But who will read your site if they can’t find it in Google Search? It’s a Catch–21 scenario. To get incoming links, you need to work with other people on the Internet who already have established sites. Offer to guest post on their sites, or offer them something else in exchange for a link (for example, if you’re a Google Analytics expert, offer to setup their Analytics Goals for free). Just keep talking to people and rewarding them for linking to your site.3) Keyword OptimizationNone of the other tricks on this list will help you if you choose the wrong keywords for your site. What are wrong keywords? 1. Keywords which don’t attract customers. We’ll discuss the importance of customers versus visitors later, but choosing keywords based on traffic is not the best strategy for most sites. 2. Focusing on high-profile keywords will keep you in constant competition with other sites which may have more resources than you. It’s better for you to find medium-popular keywords which you can easily rank for. 3. Keywords which don’t match your content. Most people make this mistake when choosing a too generalized keyword. For example, you don’t want to make your core keyword “soap” if your site is about making your own soap because most people searching for soap will be interested in using store-bought soap to clean something.4) Outgoing LinksOutgoing links are an often-neglected SEO strategy which can pay huge dividends. The main reason most SEO blogging tips talk about outgoing links is because Google may reward sites which link to authority sites such as Wikipedia. But outgoing SEO links can be more useful to you as a strategy for generating incoming links. All serious webmasters monitor their referral report which tells them which sites referred visitors to their site. If you link to someone else’s site, they’ll see your site on their referrers report and they’ll probably investigate your site. Not everyone will link back to you, but the more people who know about your site, the more people who can link to you.5) Make Content ObviousSearch engines don’t see your page the way people do. An important part of the reason they see your page differently is that they don’t typically read your Cascading Style Sheet (CSS), so all they see is the bare text of your page. That’s a problem, because the text on your page includes not just your content, but also your advertisements, navigation links, and footer—things which distract from your keyword-optimized content. HTML 5 introduced a bunch of new tags to help you mark parts of your page as navigation, footer, or inline content for the benefit of search engines, but even if your blog software doesn’t support HTML 5 yet, you can optimize your site by removing extraneous elements which don’t support your keyword optimization.6) Customers, Not Vis[...]

SEM- Top 3 Easy Ways To Increase Website Search Position

2013-03-12T21:55:49.643-07:00

If you have a business website, then search engine marketing (SEM) should always be part of your business strategy. By implementing the correct search engine optimization (SEO) techniques, your website could enjoy increased online exposure.

Online marketing primarily uses the platforms of major search companies like Google and Bing. Business owners will try to get their websites as high up as possible on the search results of Google and Yahoo/Bing. So if your website lands on the top pages of search results, it could mean more traffic or web visitors. In the online industry, getting more traffic generally means more business opportunities.

There are several options available for you when conducting SEM/SEO. You may hire a professional SEO expert to make your website more competitive on the search engines. This requires investment but you will get the guarantee of faster improvement of search position.

Another approach is to do self-help SEO. There are simple techniques that you can follow just to start your search marketing drive. So here are the top tips on internet marketing that could increase your website’s search engine position within a few weeks.

Know Your Current Position:

Knowing where you stand on the search results will enable you to set realistic goals. You can download Google’s Toolbar to get useful SEO tools to monitor your search standing and page rank. Alexa is also a good site that can give you an overview of the performance of your website on the search engines.
Based on the data that you can get from these resources, you can make a plan on how to improve your search engine position. Creating a concrete plan of action and goal setting are two very crucial tasks in any form of marketing.

Use Appropriate Keywords:

The use of correct keywords plays a critical role in the success of your search engine marketing. Keywords are terms used by people when they search for information on the Internet. They input the keywords on the search field of search engines to find websites.

If your website contains the right keywords, then there is a good chance that you will dominate the top search results. Use keywords on your URL, title tags, headers, and content. However, you must never use excessive keywords especially on the content of your site. The search engines may flag your website as spam if you abuse the use of keywords.

Get Links for Your Website:

One way links could boost the search positioning of your website. In fact, Google and Bing give premium to relevant links that point directly to your website. If you have a new website or you provide new page update, the first thing that you can do is to Ping it using free ping services. Another way is to use social bookmarking sites to get links. Forum posting, blog commenting, and article marketing are also effective ways of providing one way links to your website.

These are easiest ways to start your online marketing. Of course there are other advanced SEO techniques that you can implement later. But if you are still starting your SEO campaign, these top tips on search engine marketing would be enough.

Discover the joy of having your website #1 on Google by enrolling in the following seo training program. More intense focus on keywords
For the purposes of this article, “keywords” is also synonymous with links, and thanks to Google’s Penguin update, the entire link game has been changed. Focusing more on keywords in today’s market is crucial. Aim for keywords that are longer in nature, much more specific to your niche, and make sure that they’re trending—even if in small fashion—via social media. You can’t simply play the pluck-and-post game using a keyword tool. You have to focus a lot more on the quality and relevancy of your keywords and links.

2. More attention paid to content
Yes, it’s that sneaky Google at it again, changing the game around completely. Before Penguin, Panda blasted around 12% of all sites online, holding their proverbial feet to the fire for shoddy content. This means that, for an SEO-friendly website, you need to focus more on neat, clean, relevant content that’s very fresh and very pertinent to your niche. Google also places a lot more attention on content that’s relevant overall, not just per the keywords used, so keep that in mind.

3. Rethink your use of images
Images can be a powerful SEO tool in your arsenal, but only if you’re using them correctly. For starters, optimize images (JPEG format, please) so that they load faster and thus increase visibility via search engines. Also, remember to keep the file sizes small, the tag text extremely relevant, and always post relevant images nearest relevant text.

4. Integrate social media onto your site
Proper SEO isn’t simply contained on your website; it stretches out across the entire network you build. This obviously includes your social media pages. You need to create (if you haven’t already) relevant, active profiles on sites like Digg, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, and you need to add the proper social media badges to your main website, and vice versa, to interlink your entire network.

5. Avoid Flash and other slow-loading, large applications
Due to the Apple and mobile market (which are not necessarily one and the same), and also people with limited bandwidth or bottlenecked connections, Flash and even some Java features won’t load or are too slow to load. Cater to anyone’s machine and connection by avoiding Flash and other large, slow-loading applications on your site. What looks attractive to you might just be a hassle for someone else.
Recent updates and advances in social media haven’t completely changed SEO. Most methods are still going to work. You only need to focus on user-friendly SEO. Pay attention to how you’re presenting your content and links, and make sure you’re always catering to everyone in your network.

Tips to Improve Your Local SEO

2013-03-12T21:55:49.777-07:00

1. Get Links From Local Sources
Sites that link to you help bolster your presence in search rankings, and sites associated with your location that link to you will help connect your business in search engine algorithms. Case Ernsting of Search Engine Journal recommends submitting your business info to local directories, community databases, and even your hometown’s Wikipedia page to get encourage links to your site.

2. Work Under One Domain Name
Sure you want to be recognized and use different online outlets for different thing, but having multiple websites for different services or aspects of your business can confuse the consumer—and reduce your overall search engine pull, says the Small Business Administration. It’s wiser to keep all online activity under one name.

3. Encourage Reviews
Though many small business owners shy away from reviews for fear of a bad one, search engines factor online reviews into your ranking. Think of it this way: The more people are talking about you, the more popular you are. Ask friends and customers to review you on sites like Yelp.

4. Add Content to Your Site
Whether it’s a blog, industry news, announcements, or event recaps, adding new content your site is imperative. This creates new pages that can be optimized with new keywords, expanding your company’s reach in the eyes of search engines. You can then encourage links to that content from other sites.

5. Include Content Links on Your Social Media Sites
Post links to your site on social sites like Facebook and Twitter. As Search Engine Land notes, search engines are starting to crawl and track these links back to your site.

6. Title All Web Pages
Many SEO rookies forget to make a separate title for each web page, losing an opportunity to give search engines more content to review. SEO expert Andrew Shotland recommends putting the most important keywords at the beginning of the title and adding your city name to the titles to hone in on local searches.

7. Make All Titles SEO-Friendly
Whether a blog post headline, URL, or file name, use keywords in all titling. Rich Hargrave of Local Search Source notes, however, that a URL with more than three hyphens can look like spam. Keep naming conventions simple but relevant.

8. Add Text to Audio and Visuals
Search engines scan text to determine relevancy. If your fancy website is heavy on audio, video, or pictures, it may be visually appealing, but search engines won’t recognize anything. Make sure to include text in the form of captions or transcripts with any of this type of content.

9. Input Correct Keywords
Keywords are the lifeblood of your site’s SEO, so make sure yours are accurate and relevant to the type of consumer you want to attract. You can review Google’s Keyword Tool to find applicable terms. Also take the time to target keywords for individual pages on your site. The SBA recommends three targeted keywords per page.

10. Use Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a free analytics software package that offers data about your website traffic and how it’s performing in search engine rankings. Periodic review of this can clue you in to trends or areas you can improve.

SEO do Mistakes: link exchange emails

2013-03-12T21:55:49.859-07:00

Here's a mistake that people still sometimes make: buying a random software package that they

think will get them a gold mine of links, especially by bulk emailing reputable sites. If your primary market is the UK it is important to use a .UK TLD and ideally have your domain hosted on UK based servers.Include keyword in Domain name (using hyphens if necessary). This doesn’t mean having a domain name like try to stick to the one hyphen and not read as spammy. A good example is a site that sells wheelchair ramps with the URL of the site being as much content about your products or subject as you can. After doing this divide in to 4 or 5 sections (this will help later when creating your navigation structure)AFTER you have your site content start keyword researching There are tools you can use for keyword research; Wordtracker and The Google AdWords Keyword Tool to name but two. I personally use a combination of the Google Keyword Tool, Google LSI and T.J. Common Sense.Decide on 4 or 5 primary keywords to use as main sub-sections Ideally have an idea of 4 or 5 main keywords, call them your Primary Keywords and then try to position secondary keywords with the Primary Word most closely associated with it.Sit down and sketch out your navigation system Put a lot of time in to this and play around until it is right, use Primary Keyword as headers for 5 main Sub-sections and use secondary keywords as headers for content pages under each Primary KeywordThe above diagram shows the early stages of constructing a navigation system. The green section (Sub-1) shows how all other sub sections will be. The Home page, All 5 Sub-section, About us, Terms, Contact, Privacy, Resources and Sitemap pages are always interlinked with each other forming 12 strong pages (more about this later)Re-write content using knowledge previously gained about keywords and phrases This doesn’t mean totally re-writing and stuffing the page with keywords, it requires writing paragraphs ensuring the right phrases are in the right places but isn’t obvious that the phrases are written for the search engines. Do not write too much information on each page and do not stray of in to writing about something else.Structure each individual page With your content rich, keyword balanced page written, you now have to create the page structure. Each page should be seen as an individual website.Starting from the top,Page title should reflect the content of the Page ensuring you use the primary keyword for that PageMeta keyword tags, (although not overly important), should list 4 or 5 individual keywords related to the Pageyou have created.Meta Description tags, this should be a short concise description describing what the Page is about. This is very important as a selling point as you can manipulate the search engines in to displaying this when the person searches for the keyword used in the description. A favourite of mine is “Provides information about the latest KEYWORD now in stock and available online”or words suitable for the product.Avoid bloated code by using external style sheets and minimum coding.Main page layout was previously discussed whilst sketching the navigation system, but it is important that all links are seen by the engines and are using the correct anchor text related to the pages they are pointing too. If you run an ecommerce website, use different Meta -tag, tile and Meta description for different products. Use an understandable name for your products. Describe your products as detail as you can.

Tip 2: Content Optimization:

Make your website’s content as unique as you can. Try your level best avoid the duplicate or copied content. If you run a blog, it is very important for you. Also do not use your targeted keywords too much in your website, it is an old fashion and now it’s completely useless.

Tip 3: Backlinks

Do not build a lot backlinks at a time. SEO needs patience. No more than 30 links from one IP in 24 hours. I am talking about the backlinks. Try to focus on quality, not quantity. Focus on authority websites.

Tip 4: Link quality:

Don’t leave your links only while creating backlinks. Use a decent text to read about your keywords. Try to write 100 to 150 word small paragraph while creating backlinks.

Tip 5: Blog Commenting:

Comment on blogs with relevant texts. While commenting, try to make people read your comment. So summarize your thinking and try to write using points. Do not make an extra-large posting!

Tip 6: Forum Posting:

While posting on forum do NOT spam. Post meaningful threads. Remember, forum is the place for cooperation, not for marketing. If you behave well and cooperate well, your cooperation will increase your market automatically.

Tip 7: Link type:

Use text links instead of direct links. That is making your keyword hyperlinked by your targeted URL. This will increase your link value.

Tip 8: Social networking:

Let’s talk about facebook and twitter. Some guys have 10K+ even 50K+ followers in twitter or a huge number of facebook friends. Having such a number of friends makes it impossible to continue communication. In this case, try updating your status in a periodic manner so that while doing marketing, you will get better response.

Tip 9: Email marketing:

If you want to promote your site using email, use a reliable program for sending bulk emails. Make sure your email passed on spam filter check. Also do not forget to check the email in different email clients before sending. Do not use much images in your email as some of your targeted customers may find this email slow to load. Send your email in both HTML and text form. Many email clients are set to view only text emails.

Tip 10: Local links:

For targeted traffic generation do some local link building also. For example, if your business needs South African clients, it is beneficial to have some links form (dot)co (dot)za domain as well.

7 Steps to Better SEO On Your Drupal Site

2013-03-12T21:55:50.432-07:00
Kill Your Splash PageOK, maybe you can think of some great reason to have a splash page, but it's almost certainly going to hurt your SEO.
SEO is the process of improving your site so that your content is attractive to major search engines (such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN) and also targeted for the types of keywords you want your site to come up for. Taking the time to improve your site's SEO can increase your inlinks and pagelinks and also help you get more visitors who are searching for the content your site has to offer. Here are some very basic SEO techniques you can apply immediately to improve your site:1. Clean up your page titles. Throughout your site, the titles of your pages should say a lot about the content that page contains. Make sure your titles are clear, contain keywords for your page, and also emphasize the content of that page. Also, remember that search engines use the title you enter as the link when your site comes up in search results. Make sure your title is catchy enough and targeted enough to encourage people to click.2. Use heading tags the way they were meant to be used. In the HTML markup of your pages, you have the option to set several levels of heading such as H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, etc. These tags have a sort of hierarchy to them. H1 is more important than H2 which is more important than H3 etc etc. Use this principal in setting up your page layout. Use H1 for your most important text, such as the heading for your page. Use H2 for the next most popular, and so on. Don't overdo it either, use the heading tags sparingly on only your heading worth content (most likely containing the keywords for your page as well).3. Take advantage of alt and title tags in your URLs and images. When creating an image or link within your HTML, you have the option of including a TITLE attribute in URLs and an ALT attribute to1 images. Use these fields to add additional text about the link/image. This text is picked up by search engine spiders and can add to the keyword content of your pages.4. Make sure your navigation is available at the top and bottom of all your pages. If you want search engines and your readers to find their way through your site, you have to make it easy for them. In addition to putting standard navigation at the top of the page, consider also placing it at the bottom in your footer. The more ways Google can find their way through your site, the better chance you have of getting all your pages showing up in their index.5. Use mod_rewrite to clean up your nasty web addresses. Using a tool known as mod_rewrite, you can make a substantial improvement to the URLs of the pages within your site. Instead of a URL that looks like: you can change it to This is much easier for search engines to follow and also can contain keywords that can guide them to a better analysis of the content your site contains. You can get details on how mod_rewrite works by checking out this beginners tutorial.6. Use keywords in the addresses of your pages. Closely complimenting point 5 above, adding keywords to the addresses of your pages can make a big difference. When setting up your site structure, keep that in mind. For example, if you have a site about apples, rather than having a URL like[...]

Article Writing: Tips on SEO, Article Marketing, & More

2013-03-12T21:55:50.595-07:00
Article writing can be a huge part of your content marketing strategy. Narrowing down the topic also helps build expertise in a short article.Use data and multimedia. Where possible, support your topic with evidence: tables, charts, and percentages build trust and show expertise. Incorporating photos, videos, infographics and other types of media makes your article more engaging and seem more useful.Read and follow the publishing guidelines. These guidelines stipulate the length of an article, disallowed topics, how many links you can include, and more. Don’t try and write about the royal wedding if it bears no relevance to your brand or community, but when you’re writing updates, think about the keywords that other people might be looking for that could lead them to your Page.Writing anchor text on your Facebook PageThe same rules of good linking still apply on your Facebook Page, such as linking often and to relevant Pages. In certain places, Facebook also gives you the option to use anchor text in your links, which is a good practice to adhere to. You can do this in the ‘notes’ section of your Page for example. Here you simply write out the code for anchor text as you would normally, replacing the content with your own website and desired anchor text:Offering creative social media campaignsWhen you publish this it will appear as anchor text on your wall. A basic understanding of how the search engines determine relevance of a website’s content is a must, that’s no hidden secret. But you must be able to write well. The delicate balance between constructing prose that attracts the attention of the search engines but reads naturally to people, depends on the skill of the writer. If that’s the secret, and you aren’t a natural writer, don’t despair. Writing is an art, and some people are naturally talented, true. But you can learn to write and the more you do it the better you will get. There are plenty of books to teach you to write. My favorite is Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within by Natalie Goldberg. My not-so-secret, but very important top ten copywriting tips.1. Don’t confuse SEO copywriting with calls to action and other direct marketing copy techniques. A good copywriter for websites will understand both - but they are two different skills. 2. Focus on Keywords. It starts with keyword research. If there’s an SEO on the project, you’ll be given the keywords for the page. If you’re on your own, do the keyword research first to determine what terms are searched. 3. Look for “long-tailed” keyword phrases. Searchers who type in four to five word query strings know what they are looking for and have qualified themselves in advance. These terms are excellent for conversion. 4. Structure and Heading Tags – Make an outline before you start – I know it feels like high school theme writing all over again. But it works – if your outline is good, your copy will almost write itself, the ideas will flow well for the reader and you’ll know exactly where your h1, h2 and h3 tags belong. 5. Write naturally, write well. Keep your keywords and related terms at the back of your mind in your first draft for the main content. Just let the natural content write itself. When you are happy with this version, return to the copy and see where you may be able to use your keywords without overstuffing the page. 6. Other hot spots for your targeted phrase:File names – write keyword rich, logical file names for graphics and page names.Anchor text – link away from the page and to the page using your targeted termsNumbered and bulleted lists like this one.7. Look for ways to naturally use your keyword strings in bold, italics, and other styles that bring attention to your targeted copy.8. Title and Meta Description Tags. Do bring your grasp of direct marketing copywriting to the table with these tags. Your title and description should contain your keyword string, a benefit to the user and a call to action. 9. Don’t ever lose sight of the human visitor. You are writing for both the search engines and the user. Usability must never take a backseat to SEO or you won’t have conversions.10. Keyword Stuffing – Don’t do it. Or do you even have a strategy? If not, it’s time that you do. You can no longer just ‘write great content’ and others will magically link to you – that is just not going to happen. Site owners with high PR and authority now know too well how important linking is – and are not likely to link you without something in return. But others pursue their SEO backlink strategy as a full-time mission, and in the process neglect their site’s content and relevancy for the very terms they are trying rank for – another mistake. Sowhere do you fall? Are you ignoring the need to get backlinks in order to improve your search engine placement, or are you so wrapped up in your SEO backlink strategy that you are neglecting your content?Somewhere in between, of course is where you want to be. Now is the time that you get disciplined; as it is the disciplined marketer who will win the race – and that means setting up a schedule for yourself. Your time is your most precious resource – particularly when you are sitting in front of a computer; with all the data available online, it’s just too easy to get distracted and waste your valuable time. You need an SEO backlink strategy that is the most effective use of your time and resources. So don’t get so wrapped up in your backlinking that you neglect other vital aspects of your business. Here are some tips to help you create a manageable, but effective SEO backlink strategy:1. Outsource – backlink building is grunt work and it’s best to pay someone to do it. You don’t need to spend valuable time creating forum profiles, bookmarking sites or posting blog comments. There are lots of services available on various Internet Marketing forums – and for the most part they are cheap and reliable. Just check feedback on the forums before you buy.2. Use backlinks software to index your new links – when you get your list of links from your outsource provider, use a program like Backlink Index Express to ‘backlink your backlinks’. This will insure that your links appear quickly in the search engine’s indexes.3. Choose keywords carefully – don’t waste time trying to rank for terms where the first-page search results are dominated by high PageRank authority domains and root URL’s. A search result with a root url, like this is a is more difficult URL to compete against than a search result with a url like root url means the competing site is ranking well for that term, if there are no root url’s for your keyword – that is good for your chances to rank.4. Evaluate the backlinks to the top 3 search results for your given search term – this will tell you a lot about the strength of the competition. If the first 3 to 5 results have over 200 links (page links, not domain links) – then it’s going to be hard to rank against those pages without lots of linking. You can rank against them, but do the easier keywords first, get some money coming in, then use the resource to attac[...]

3 Post-Penguin SEO Tips for Backlink Cleanup

2013-03-12T21:55:51.005-07:00
If Google's Penguin update earlier this year proved anything, it was that search giant cares about the quality of the backlinks pointing at a website. Furthermore, it has the tools necessary to detect and penalize low-value links that have been created to manipulate page rankings. So if you've seen a decline in your site's performance since the Penguin update, or if you'd just like to protect your site from future problems, consider these techniques to remove bad links and avoid penalties:1. Identify low value links within your backlink profile. The search engines prefer to look at backlinks as "editorial votes" -- that is, they believe an inbound link pointing at your website represents a vote of confidence from the referring site. In a perfect world, the site with the most links from the best websites would be ranked at the top of the search results. But of course, we don't live in that perfect world. Today, unscrupulous webmasters have made it their goal to "hack" this valuation system, resulting in linking strategies that artificially inflate a site's backlink profile. Although the search engines haven't always been able to effectively detect and penalize this manipulation, they're getting better at it every day. And the Penguin change has shown conclusively that they're ready to penalize webmasters whose sites use such techniques. With this in mind, the first step in protecting your site from search engine penalties is to identify any links that could be perceived as low value or intentionally manipulative. You'll need to first get a copy of all the links pointing at your website, using tools such as Majestic SEO($49.99+/month) or the Open Site Explorer ($99/month, following a free trial).Export your links to a spreadsheet or use your chosen program's internal research tools to identify links that meet any of the following criteria:Is hosted on a website that uses a different language than your ownIs hosted on an adult-oriented websiteIs hosted on a site that offers no value to readers; such sites are often built for the sole purpose of granting links to other websitesIs hosted on sites that have been hacked or infected with malwareUses keyword-optimized anchor text (for example, a link that reads "cheap car insurance quote" rather than "click here")Search engines won't necessarily penalize you for having some keyword-rich anchor text, but when anchor texts collectively aren't diverse enough, it appears unnatural and can raise red flags, particularly if they're on low-quality sites.2. Determine which links should be removed. Although all of the above criteria should be cause for concern, seeing a link that falls in the "low quality" category isn't necessarily a bad thing. If the link is no longer active or has been tagged with the appropriate "no-follow" tags to instruct the search engines to ignore it, you don't need to worry about removing the backlink. To determine whether or not a link should be removed, take the following steps:• Click each link within your spreadsheet. If it is no longer active and redirects you to a 404 page, you don't need to pursue removal. •[...]

SEO Tips for Photographers

2013-03-12T21:55:51.088-07:00
I am not a photographer. And I love seeing people who have such incredible talents to create these photos get the exposure they deserve. This post is for all those photographers out there who create amazing works of art but need a little help in how to make a dint in 1,000,000,000+ posts that exist in search engines about photography.Get a website and build a blog!Don’t be afraid that your site will just be another drop in the ocean and that nobody will want to read what it is you have to say. There is always an audience that is looking for advice, reviews, experiences, case studies or simply want to hear what you have to say about photography. If you love the subject, don’t be afraid to talk about it. Be as nerdy or as high level as you find interesting. In fact, the nerdier and more technical you are, the more long-tail terms you are likely creating for your site. Long-tail photography terms are absolute gold when it comes to organic search.Focus on specificsIt’s often the specifics that like-minded people will be searching for. Keyword ResearchIt is essential when optimising your site, that the content is keyword rich. However, there is little point in writing keyword dense copy if the keywords are not commonly used in search terms. It is advisable to keep keywords ambiguous when using any SEO tool, e.g. KeywordDiscovery or Google Adwords Keyword Tool. This will allow the SEO tool to return more suggestions, some of which may be surprising, and ones you had not thought of.SEO tools will also allow you to see the levels of competition for the most popular keywords. This will allow you to optimise your campaign for the most effective keyword use.2. Link BuildingA high Google PageRank is something most sites aim for, and while the algorithm for determining page rank is constantly changing the number and quality of links into your site always features. We suggest using reputable sites and niche directories to link back to your site. With genuine, relevant content, links back to your site can really boost your site’s PageRank. Some SEO tools will also allow you to view the number of links your competitor sites contain, this will enable you to make sure you have more valid links therefore it is likely your page rank will increase.3. Deep LinkingWhile it is important to have as many good quality relevant links as possible coming into your site, it is equality important that these go to different pages across your site. This will allow you to target more relevant links to each specific page. This will not only improve users experience more but will allow search engines to see that your site has lots of valid content, boosting PageRank. Sites that only have links going to the homepage are often viewed as shallow by search engines, or that the links are not genuine and generated by automation, reducing the sites value.4. SitemapsThe site map is an important tool for increasing the ease of navigation across your site. It allows web crawlers from search engines (and users) to quickly and efficiently search every page of your website. Every page of content is therefore easier to find, reducing the number of clicks, both web crawlers and users have to make before reaching the required content. There is another version of the sitemap that is also used by search engines. XML sitemaps consist of a list of all pages and include the dates the pages were last modified. XML sitemaps are submitted to search engines to help them find and link to all of the content on your site.5. Relevant ContentThe most important part of SEO is perhaps having content relevant to your main page or site topic. The readable text on the page needs to be relevant to the targeted keywords and information in the meta tags and alt tags. The content needs to read well, in addition to being keyword dense, in order to be useful to a reader. All information needs to be explained fully so it makes sense to the reader. The site content needs to be relevant in order for the search engine to link it to the search term. However some keyword stuffed copy can appear to be spam and put potential users off.6. Place Your Keywords In the Title TagThe title tag is one of the most important things for ranking high for particular keywords. That's why it's very important to think of a title that contains important keywords and grabs the attention of people. Because when people search on search engines like Google, the title of your page will be displayed in the results and people will click on links that are the most attractive to them first. Remember that it's also very important and rewarding to have a unique title, so before you use the title, Google it and see if the title already appears in the top 10 results. Please keep in mind that Google only displays the first 70 characters(about 8 words) of your page's title. Google does not even index the keywords in your page's title after the 12th or so word. Yahoo and MSN don't even index pages that have a page title that's too long.2. Optimize Your Robots.txtHaving an optimized robots.txt is important because this file can control which pages of your websites get crawled by the search engine spiders. For those of you who use WordPress, I recommend preventing search engine spiders from crawling wp-admin and plugin folders.3. Proper Use of the ALT AttributeThe <alt> attribute should be used to describe an image, not to spammed with keywords that have nothing to do with the image. Why? Because while it's true that search engine spiders cannot read images, they can however read the <alt> attribute, and having it spammed with keywords that are totally irrelevant to the image will make Google aware of what to derank you for.4. Anchor Text of LinksThe anchor text is the text inside your tags that links to other pages. Wether they're incoming or outgoing links, it's important for the anchor text to contain a description of where the link is taking the visitor. This is even more important for search engines because it tells its crawlers where the link is going. So avoid using words like "Click Here" as an anchor text as it can hurt both your website and the website you're linking to5. Quality of Inbound and Outbound LinksWhile most web developers know that having many web sites link to your can boost your rankings, a lot of them don't know that the quality of the websites linking to your websites plays a vital role in your website's page rank. Getting links for random dofollow blogs has a way smaller impact than if a website with a high pagerank links to your website in an article.Who you link to matters, as Google warned webmasters that they can be penalized if they link to spam websites. Linking to really bad websites (malware injecting websites etc.) can easily get your site removed from Google's search engine results pages(SERPs). One thing to keep in mind is that Google's spiders might not follow all of your links if you have over 100 unique outbound links on a single page.6. Proper Use of Header Tags
,
tags etc. should be used when appropriate. From years of experience in operating mainly WordPress-based blogs, I have learned valuable lessons on how to optimize blogs for search engines and increase traffic to the sites. Here are my Top 10 SEO tips for bloggers; I hope these insightful tips can help improve your blog’s SEO.1. Conduct proper keyword research and use keywords in your title and content. The title in your home page is the most important place to feature your most important keywords. When you post new articles, keep in mind that most blog platforms will make your article title the HTML title tag as well. Therefore, create your titles with keywords you want to target.2. Be familiar with your blogging platform to use built-in SEO features. Install additional SEO pluggins. For WordPress, "All in One SEO" or "Platinum SEO" is recommended. They offer many settings that help to create a more SEO-friendly site.3. Use SEO-friendly URLs. Basically adding keywords in your URLs is a good idea. In WordPress, this is done by turning on a function called "Permalinks."4. Write original content. Do not copy content from other sites, and if you do, make sure to rewrite it completely to make it your own. More often than not, duplicate content gets filtered by the search engines.5. Write blog posts on a regular basis and cover the latest topics and trends, which tend to get more traffic while they are hot. Fresh content is part of Google's algorithm.6. Optimize your image names and alt tags to include keywords for better placement in the image search portion of the search engines.7. Publish links to your posts on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Also, submit them to social bookmarking sites such as StumbleUpon and Reddit. Social media involvement and links are good for SEO purposes.8. Build links to your main page and internal posts. If you own several blogs, try to find similar posts and link them to each other.9. Write guest blog posts on similar sites for link building purposes. A good way to do this is to ask other bloggers to exchange articles, with guest blog credits. You can also participate in link exchange with other bloggers from blogrolls, but in general try to not have too many outgoing links from your own blogroll, as it may reduce the value of your website.10. Go easy on importing RSS feeds into your blog. While it could be a good source for additional content, you want the majority of your content to be original. If you’re going to use RSS feeds, I recommend keeping it to less than 10 percent of your overall content. If your regular content does not keep up with that ratio, then remove old RSS posts regularly. There was a time when the "Autobloged" plugin for WordPress was being used by many bloggers, or I should say spammy bloggers, with great success. Anchor Text is the text to form a Hyperlink. If you are not choosing the right anchor text, then all of your efforts of getting backlinks will not be much useful. For example, If I want to link to this page – and the main keyword is Pagerank.I can use “Click Here(Anchor Text) to know more about PageRank.”But ‘Click Here’ doesn’t tell Google Bots what the link is pointing to. So, use the link on the keyword.Right Method(Example), “Click here to know more about PageRank(Anchor Text)”.So, you should try to get backlinks from other websites using the right Anchor Text to make your site more relevant in Google search results.3) Best Practices:- Quality and Natural Links matters.- Avoid Paid Backlinks.- Avoid Link Exchange.- Try to get Backlinks from High Authority Sites or from sites with at least PR 1 or above.- Try to get Backlinks from sites that are relevant to your content.- A link in the footer of a website is weighted less by Google than the link appearing on the top or in the main content of the page.[...]

Blogger Seo: Submit sitemap in Bing for Blogger

2013-03-12T21:56:55.343-07:00
Blogger Seo: Submit sitemap in Bing for BloggerMy previous post was about Blogger sitemap submition in Google webmaster tool. The keyword tag should include keywords for just that page. Include 5-6 keywords, including the main keyword phrase and synonyms of that keyword phrase. Don't make the mistake of including every keyword that could possibly describe what your site is about in your keyword tag. Make your keyword meta tag specific for each page. The keyword tag holds very little importance anyway, but be sure to make it page specific. FOCUS! Do you have a site map on your website? In Google's Terms of Service, they suggest that you use a site map, so set one up immediately! There are many excellent programs that will create site maps for you. Put a link to your site map on every single page of your site, and link to your other pages using link text that describes those pages. This link building service includes Google Sitemap Generator Setup, absolutely FREE. Stay away from “little” keywords. When you’re looking for terms to optimize for, especially primary key phrases, it is generally a good idea to stay away from “little” keywords, such as the, and, or, for, etc. Does keyword in domain name make sense? People often seem to ask how important it is to include keywords that they want to rank for in their domain name. The answer is that it’s not essential, but it helps a lot. Make title from 3 to 9 words! Page title elements are normally 3-9 words (60-80 characters) maximum in length, no fluff, straight and to the point. This is what shows up in most search engine results as a link back to your page. Make sure your Page Title Element(title tag) is relevant to the content on the page. Describe your site in META! The META description tag usually consists of 25 to 30 words or less using no more than 160 to 180 characters total (including spaces). The META description also shows up in many search engine results as a summary of your site. Make sure your META Description Tag is relevant to the content on the page. Insert keywords in META tag. For those search engines that are META enabled, the META keywords tag used to be one of the most important areas after the page title and page description. It has been abused by both marketers and consumers alike that there is very little weight given to the META keywords tag. 5 Secrets to Selecting Highly-Effective SEO Keywords

If there is a single concept that is the driver of much of the Internet's growth over the past decade – not to mention nearly all of Google's annual revenue of $25 billion – it is the concept of keywords. Keywords are what we type in when we are searching for products, services, and answers on the search engines, an act that Americans performed 15.5 billion times in April 2010 according to ComScore, the web research firm.Companies optimize their webpages for search by assigning keywords to those pages. The implications for a business of picking the right keywords are therefore huge. Keyword selection is fundamental to success when it comes to executing a paid search or PPC campaign. It is also integral to a website natural or organic ranking on the search engines. But keywords are not just about SEO. They at the heart of a company's marketing campaign at its most granular level. Do our customers love our product because it is fast-acting or because it is long-lasting? Are we cheap or the best? Do we provide people with ideas or with help? If you can't immediately identify the most important keywords for your company, it is doubtful that you can effectively market your products and services to your target audience. The following guide will provide you with 5 ideas to keep in mind when you are selecting keywords on which to build your online marketing.Picking SEO Keywords: Focus on Good PhrasesWhen it comes to search engine marketing, there may be no larger misnomer, no more archaic term than the ubiquitous keyword. In my view, there should be an official migration to the more accurate term keyphrase, but for now I will be forced to use what I consider to be an inaccurate term. My frustration with this term is that it quite simply implies a single word, which is rarely the strategy that we employ when doing keyword research and selection in the service of PPC and SEO campaigns. All too often, people dramatically overthink the most basic keyword research concepts; keyword generation should start simply with answering the question of "What products or services do you sell?" If you sell dog food online, the root words dog and food alone would be very poor keywords because on their own, neither dog nor food do a remotely good job at describing what you sell. Though this example makes it obvious, many times we have to fight through our urge to include those bigger, broader root keywords.Picking SEO Keywords: Avoiding "Vanity" KeywordsNow let's look at a trickier example—one where the root keyword arguably does a good job describing what we are selling. Say I own an online jewe[...]

10 Essential Tips to Maximize International SEO

In the world of online visibility and marketing, SEO on an international level is a growing and increasingly important topic. Most SEOs worth their weight in salt understand what should be done to create an effective inbound marketing and SEO campaign for a standard, United States based website. But what needs to be done differently to succeed internationally? Let’s start off with why international search is so important.Over 85% of internet users live outside the United States. Over the past 10 years, as the global technology has grown and advanced, Google has reported a 25% increase in non-English search queries. With higher search comes higher demand, so what can you do to make sure your website is reaching its international target audience?1. Use Content in Correct Language – This may seem elementary, but a common mistake is to simply assume that your customers will speak English. False. Use the proper language for your users. And PLEASE don’t rely on automated translation software, use human translation, with local vernacular, preferably translated by a native speaker.2. Don’t Mix Languages on Same Page – Many webmasters assume that including content in 2 languages will help their visitors understand that the website is based out of another country. While this is true, having information on a webpage/website that your users can’t read will NOT help with conversion rates, time on site, and user interaction.3. Learn the Cultural Aspects, Habits, & Preferences of the Country/Region – Understand who your target audience is, how they are likely to interact with your website, and don’t be afraid to A/B test some design and content variables to determine what works best! An advertisement that works well in the U.S. may not perform well at all in Spain. Take time to research who your audience is and test to find out what works for them.4. Use Either Subfolders or Country Specific TLDs Over Subdomains – Subfolders or identical domains with individual country domains are usually the best option for targeting internationally. does a great job of segmenting their users by language and region, all using subfolders. If a visitor goes to and selects Spanish as their language, and Mexico as their country, they will be redirected to, displaying all information in Spanish, using Mexico vernacular. This folder structure also helps to maintain trust with the user, because although they may not understand the subfolder[...]

Tips to Getting Started with Content Marketing

Content marketing is one of the most powerful forms of marketing on the internet. Unfortunately, it can be tough to get started. It’s like rolling a giant ball of metal. To get it started, you have to push very hard. It might only budge a millimeter. You push again and it budges a little more. As you continue to give it power, it’ll continue to move – Slowly at first, then faster and faster.Eventually, the ball will start to move seemingly on its own. It’ll pick up momentum. Pretty soon, it’ll be rolling so fast that you couldn’t stop it if you tried. That’s the power of content marketing. It’s slow to start, but once you become an authority site and once you build a reputation, it’s next to impossible to stop.So how do you get your site in motion? How do you give it the kick it needs to build towards that tipping point? Here are ten different ways.Answer Customer QuestionsDo you always find yourself getting asked the same questions? Instead of answering them over and over again, why not turn those questions into content?Take questions that customers ask you and answer it on your site. Go into as much detail as possible. Make it so comprehensive that your page becomes the go to page for that question.Target a Long Tail KeywordUse the Google Keyword Tool to identify long tail keywords that you can target. Make sure you’re searching on exact match.Targeting a long tail keyword will allow you to rank for that keyword very quickly. You won’t get a horde of traffic from it, but you will get top rankings quickly. A few of these rankings can add up very quickly.Create Content from TweetsParticipate in the Twitter discussions in your industry. Get to know the influencers. Look out for new ideas. When you notice an interesting tweet or an interesting new idea pop up, turn it into content on your site. If you do it fast enough, you’ll be the first and others will jump on the boat to reference your content.Cover an EventGo to an event, such as a conference, a competition, a seminar or a trade show and give in depth details about it. If you can give down to the minute breakdowns, so much the better. This is called “liveblogging.” People who can’t attend the actual event love being able to stay in the loop. Use event blogging to build quality links.Use the Autocomplete FeatureGo to Google and type in a word or part of a sentence. Google will complete the word or sentence for you, often time’s giving you new ideas for content in the process. For exampl[...]

While we all know the benefits of SEO, sometimes there just isn’t enough time to focus on both SEO and developing a quality product or business. What can you do? You could hire a SEO consulting firm like Outspoken Media, but if you lack a budget, this article is perfect for you.Everyone knows that creating fresh, engaging content helps build a loyal following and attract links. However, if you’re looking to improve your SEO with no budget, you can tweak your existing articles to prime it for high search engine rankings. Now I’m not saying that your website will shoot up into Google’s top 3. I’m also not going to tell you to stuff as many keywords into your post as possible. If I did, that would be cheesy and I would be lying.Instead, I will say this: if you focus on these 7 key areas of on-page SEO, you can improve your search engine rankings. How do I know this? Because it worked for me.Conduct Keyword ResearchYou could try and guess what what people type when they use a search engine, but with free Keyword Research tools available, it’s wasted effort. What are some of the best, free keyword tools? You could use the Google tool, or one that I like is Wordtracker. In addition, you can use this tool from Google to research trends in search phrases. If you’re looking for a premium keyword research tool, look no further than,, or Raven Tools.Focus on Low-Competition KeyphrasesDon’t waste your time going after highly competitive keywords with on-site optimization because you won’t be able to nab them. So, how do you know if a keyword or keyphrase is competitive?Take one of the phrases you found while conducting keyword research, type it into Google search using quotations (ex. “how to install Thesis Theme Framework”), and then look at the number that appears below the search box.If the number is large (over 75,000), I’d avoid it because it’s highly competitive. If it’s small, I’d focus on it because it should be much easier to score a top ranking.Note, just because a keyword or phrase isn’t competitive doesn’t mean it won’t send traffic. And if it doesn’t send much traffic, that doesn’t matter either because the traffic it does send is highly targeted. For example, I once optimized a post that landed the #1 position in Google and it helped me make a $1500 sale.Choose One Keyword or Phrase, and then Write or Twea[...]

SEO for Flash: 5 Tips and Best Practices

SEO for Flash – is it a reality yet?One of the most common issues for web sites with poor search visibility involves Google not being able to crawl and index a site’s content. Web sites made entirely with Flash are problematic because there are often no links for search engine crawlers to follow or HTML text to copy.According to the Opera (browser) developer center, somewhere between 30% and 40% of all pages tested contained Flash files representing a lot of content that may not be included in search results or only partially indexed. Despite a large number of sites publishing content using this type of file format, Flash and search engines have been like oil and water. They just didn’t mix.In the summer of 2008, Google announced it had improved the indexing of Adobe Flash files. Many Flash developers and SEOs across the globe could breathe an optimistic sigh of relief: Text in Flash files was now crawlable. But what’s the whole story? Can a site be built entirely with Flash and expect to gain the same search benefits as an HTML site?Consider these 5 points that Google makes in regards to SEO for Flash:1. Google can crawl and index all of the text content users see as they interact with the Flash file. That’s a big step in the right direction, since ensuring a site is crawlable is the No. 1 SEO basic. A few points to keep in mind concerning SEO for Flash:1) Google maintains that the text in Flash files is treated like text in HTML or PDF files.2) If identical content is used in both Flash and HTML, Google will likely see it as duplicate content.3) If a Flash file is embedded in HTML, you’ll be able to add meta information, but the content will be indexed as a single item.2. Google can discover links within Flash files. In other words, if a Flash file includes links to your website pages, you can increase your odds of Google finding and crawling more of the site – just as is the case with links that appear in HTML and other files.3. Google can index external content that a Flash file loads and associate it with that Flash file. This capability is an update from the summer 2008 revision. Previously, if a Flash file were to load an HTML or XML file, Google would not associate that external content with the Flash file. This new capability, introduced just this summer, allows external content to appear in search results.4. Google supports common JavaScript techniques for embedding Flash. Another update f[...]

Your content needs to be so good that anyone who reads it feels indebted to you for putting it out.In order for your site to garner real backlinks and real rankings, you need to actively market your links. This will give your content piece more link juice as well as more visitors. Alternatively, you can link to your home page in your bio section but link to your content page in the actual guest post itself.Tap Your RelationshipsIf you’re regularly trying to rank pages in an industry, it’s a good idea to build as many relationships as possible. Title Tag SEO Tips Cheat Sheet

Recently Google came out again and emphasized the important of page titles in search results. As they pointed out, they are the first line of any search result and part of the actual links to click on. We already knew this, right? Why did Google decide to inform us again when you’d think that all webmasters, and especially marketers are very aware that a page title is the most important part of SEO?

It’s simple: despite what we should now, many marketers focus on other things and ignore the importance of titles not only in SEO, but in actually getting people to click on the link. It’s a call-to-action, and if its boring, not that interesting and doesn’t engage a user, then perhaps that is the difference between lots of clicks and no clicks whatsoever.

For those that need a refresher, here are a few key tips on Titles

1) For most search engines the maximum length of a title tag is between 60-70 characters and if you are over 70 characters, the title will be cut off.

2) Title Tags should reflect the content of EACH page. Don’t use a boiler plate for every page in your site, actually change the title on each page, to show what is new about that page opposed to the other page. This is really important for SEO, because everyone searches differently and one keyword difference could affect traffic.

3) Don’t overstuff keywords. Besides making sites often unreadable, it’s consider spammy and actually will make users ignore your site. It also will cause high bounce rate, and gain Google’s attention as content spamming.

4) Despite what everyone claims, no need to use your company’s name always in all the titles. If you are trying to get attention of users, sometimes using all the characters and not having a site title is better.

5) Put important keywords in front of the title tag. According to several experts, the closer the keyword is in the front of the title.

How to Use Keywords in Your Articles

Even after the Google Panda and Penguin episode, keywords in your articles are just as important as it has always been. How will your website visitors know what your article is about if you do not have keywords in your articles? Google has not stopped SEO, they have only made you do it properly. We all know that having too many keywords in your articles is a definite no-no. So there are a few things that we need to avoid and a few things we need to include to get your articles perfect.Have you ever watched a TV commercial and wondered what they were trying to sell? I guess you have. This is the same for an article with no keywords; you cannot leave people wondering what the point of your article is.What is your keyword? You need to ask yourself what your article is about. Make a list of about five keywords that you think your article is about. Then choose the one that is really closest to your subject. Then you can use this main keyword to find other related keywords that you should also include in your article.Keyword densityNow this is where some webmasters may split because their views will be very different. I can only give you my point of view here as there are no clear rules to keyword density in your articles. I personally only like 1% to 2% keyword density and then include various related keywords scattered amongst the article. I find this to be a great mix and I never have a problem with over optimization. This means I mention my main keyword 5 times in a 500 word article. Some Webmasters will tell you that you need 3 to 5% keyword density. I do not like this as I have read articles with this much keyword density and they look awful. 5% keyword density means the main keyword is mentioned 25 times in a 500 word article. We should be writing SEO content for humans and that kind of writing just does looks terrible!Related KeywordsIncluding related keywords in your articles is a fantastic way to not repeat a keyword too many times. If you include related keywords, you will have a list of keywords to use instead of just concentrating on one keyword. This make sure article interesting and covers the subject well. To find[...]

SEO 10 Tips for Backlinks

1) Backlinks should contain a variety of words.Although we are not privy to Google's search algorithm, or any search engine's for that matter, many tests have been done and conclusions drawn that are well worth practicing. For example, the text link or anchor text matters.Link Text (anchor text) should:•contain a variety of text, sometimes with keywords or even the URL•be concise - focusing on one ideaAvoid Link Text (anchor text) that contains:•generic text, such as click here or homeIt should be noted that having many backlinks with the same anchor text may trigger a Google penalty. Again, this is another reason in favor of organic links that naturally have a variety of anchor text.2) The higher up the backlink is in the html, the better.Links pass value to the destination or target web page and the higher up the backlink appears in the html code of the page, the more value it gives to the target page. For example, if you link identical text twice on the same page, targeting two separate pages of a target website, the target page that is linked to first is given more value than the second, all other things being equal. If you think about it, the logic makes sense. If I want to convince you of something, I am going to present my best argument first. Why should Google be any different? It considers our first "reason" for following a link more weighty.3) Backlinks should be within the content of a page.Backlinks located within the content of a web page provide much more value to the target page than if they are located in the sidebars or footer.4) The first instance of a backlink to an URL on a page is the only one that matters. This is a case where quality is better than quantity, which, like so many things related to search engine optimization, is usually the case. In addition to the fact that a page overloaded with links to the same target just looks spammy, it is ineffective.Say for example, that you have included five links in an article all leading to your money-making destination website. The only link that Google values is the first link that appears on the page to that particular [...]

Perform a keyword analysis with Google’s Keyword tool and find a main keyword (subniche) where competition is mild (less than 13,000 competing phrase websites) and traffic is decent (around 100 daily searches).Spend most of your time doing your keyword selection, this is the foundation of your business and is crucial for ranking well in organic search results. There is several high quality paid software packages which can save you a lot of time if you do this at a professional level, like Market Samurai, Keyword Elite, Niche Finder by Brad Callen (these are my favorites).Domain namePurchase a domain name that is closely related to your targeted keyword.Try for .com if available, otherwise go for .net or domain names with a prefix or a suffix, avoid hyphens. If you are targeting a low competition keyword (which you should when you are beginning with SEO) this alone can catapult you to the top of organic search results.HostingUse an reliable and cheap hosting company like hostgator which offers “Fantastico” installation script for free with the Cpanel control panel.Installing WordPressOnce your hosting environment is set-up, use the fantastico installer to set up your wordpress.WordPress SEO pluginsYoast SEO plugin is my favorite as it rates each of your posts for SEO quality and makes suggestions on how to improve it.WordPress SEO themesThere is so many options for WordPress themes that they can be overwhlming, I suggest to stick with the simple ones and spend more energy in developing conten[...]

1. Yahoo and MSN don't even index pages that have a page title that's too long. How to SEO: Four Common Mistakes and Problems

Many SEOs and Internet marketers are still failing to get a good balance between on and off-page optimisation.Often, this comes about because they are focusing too much on external activities, such as link building. This means they tend to neglect basic housekeeping on the web pages themselves.1. Trying to get results too quickly. There is no quick-fix method for driving traffic to a website other than resorting to underhand Black Hat techniques, which can only ever be short-lived. Building a solid community and remaining totally organic is hard work and very much a long-term project.2. Not having a solid web content strategyDespite numerous online articles written on the subject of web content, as well as very specific advice from Google, webmasters still harbour pages on their sites that contain out-of-date information, are badly written and lack basic functionality, such as correct internal linking. Many sites also lack consistency in their updating policy, thinking that once optimised, their site can look after itself; sadly, this is far from the truth. Modern search engines, especially Google, demand a constant supply of new, relevant content for the site to have any chance of achieving and maintaining a good ranking in the SERPs.3. Failing to use Analytics properlyAnalytics are a useful and necessary part of every online business if used correctly, but many webmasters fail to really understand what they are actually about. This can result in a panic response when they experience an unexpected drop in Google ranking.Relatively new websites are the most likely to experience this due to a phenomenon colloquially termed the Google Dance. When new websites are first indexed they will often appear quite high in the SERPs, then after what is known as the ‘honeymoon’ period they will assume a more natural position.4. Not keeping up with Google Updates like Penguin or PandaAn older website that has dropped[...]

Top 2 SEO Tips for Content Marketing

Here are two SEO tips for content marketing:Creating a content recycling campaign.Creating great content on a consistent basis is no easy task. A strong content marketing campaign is going to include blogs, white papers, articles, online press release, videos, infographics and more. Even if you have an in-house writer handling the content creation, you have to remember that time is money! Get the most out of each piece of content they create, not matter what platform it was intended for and recycle your contentcorrectly! Keep in mind that content recycling is not that same as article spinning—you are not submitting the same piece of content to a dozen sites. A press release can be reworked to become a promotional blog post, which in turn can be posted to your Facebook wall or Tweeted about. If you are launching a new product, you’ll have to write a new page of content for your website about that product, which can be used as the script for a product demonstration video that you post to YouTube. A white paper can be sliced into a dozen blog posts or a webinar can turn into a year’s worth of 2 minute videos for your video marketing campaign. They key to content recycling is to keep the messaging consistent but change the style/formatting to fit each new medium.Every time you recycle a piece of content, you have the ability to optimize it for SEO. Target your most important keywords, as well as a few long tail variations. Include the full http link and anchor text links to help with your link building. And remember to share everything on social networks! The more times a piece of content is shared the more links it creates and the more valuable it becomes in the eyes of the search engines. Stop stressing over content creation.Don’t over think your topics! Just about every site owner I meet says their number one problem [...]
