Moving to a new blog home that is!

After years of keeping my blog here at 36 Shea, I'm going to start fresh and move things over to my site.

You can find my new blog here :

From now on I'll be posting regularly there.

Thanks for so many years of visiting me here at 36 Shea!

I really never get tired of making things with vintage ticking.  I bought this unique piece of vintage cotton ticking last fall, knowing I would wait until spring to use it, but not quite sure how.  Maybe tote bags?  Or a bunch of zip bags?  Or pillows?  Yes, pillows.  I ended up using the whole piece of ticking on these two large pillows and backing them with Belgian linen.  I'm really glad this is what they became.  They are in my shop, just in time for spring to arrive!

I've added lots of new things for spring into the shop!  A great and eclectic mix of vintage and handmade in all kinds of lovely colors and patterns.  Have a look over here!

Vintage shop update y'all!  Anyone ready for spring?  I am!
Check out these vintage finds I just listed over at  I will have more coming next week too!
Thanks for having a look and hope you are all surviving the winter if you live in the North East of the USA.
We still have massive snow piles everywhere.

This week all pillows are on sale in my shop!  Today through Sunday!  Prices are as marked.  I'm getting a new vintage collection ready for the beginning of February and new pillows ready for March.  Stay tuned!

Hit refresh!  By January my color palette has moved away from cozy grays and browns and I'm craving white walls and fresher colors...bright things to brighten cloudy days.  I'm adding these colorful cotton banners to the sale section of my shop, in case you need a quick way to brighten your place up!  There are just a few left of the above items but I need to make room for new things coming into the shop in 2015!
xx Jill

p.s.  if you are still in the cozy mode, there are a few wool pillows and scarves available in the sale section of my shop as well!  Everything is 20-40% off original prices.

For the holidays, I've added a little sale section to my shop of lovely fall and winter items that are the last (or 2 in some cases) of their kind!  I'd love these to make some one's home a little more cozy this holiday season, so I've discounted them from 20%-40% off the original price.  And although I can't guarantee delivery by Christmas at this point, each item ships the day of purchase, with lovely gift wrapping.  If you are local, contact me at and we can skip the shipping charges and arrange for local pickup.

See the SALE section of my Etsy shop here.

Thanks for having a look and happy merry making this winter season!

Last holiday market of the year is this Saturday!  Please join our group of local women makers for a lovely afternoon of shopping, eating, and general holiday merriment!  Looking forward to seeing you friends, old and new.

And once again, thank you, dear people, for all of your support of our small and local businesses in 2014. Your encouragement means to world to me!
xo Jill

This Saturday, December 6th from 11-6, Jill Bent Handmade & Vintage will be at Michelle Willey in Boston for the Paper, Fabric, and Stitch Trunk Show.  Products from Angela Liguori and Stitch and Tickle leather goods will be there as well.
For each show this season, I've been bringing a different selection on handmade and vintage goods, and this show I'll be bringing some new vintage finds (many things that haven't even made it into my online shop yet) and some copper cookware along with handmade cowls, lavender pillows, clothes peg dolls and handmade decorative pillows for the home.  I hope to see you there!

First up:
Vintage copper cookware collection just added to the shop.  These pieces are in such excellent condition. They have the best Julia Child vibe (after all, she lived in Cambridge for many years).  I'm totally in love with them.  Even my husband, who is not usually excitable about this sort of thing, asked if maybe we should keep these.  But, they are in the shop for now, and all sold as individual pieces.

And then:
These rustic wood pieces.  So New England, I love how they look as their own little collection.  The spoon, cutting board, and bowl have the best antique character.  The copper cups have been sold already.

Thanks as always, for having a look.

I'm spending the next week getting ready for the holiday shows coming up soon.

First one is at The Park School on Saturday, November 15 at 171 Goddard Ave, Brookline, MA!  Check out the details at .  If you are local to the Boston area, please stop by!  I would love to see you!

Vintage shop update coming in November!  Wood, ironstone, etched glass, enamelware, copper.  Good stuff!!

Heading into that save the date time of year!  This is the first of the holiday shows I'll be doing this year, and it's a big one.  I would love to see you there at The Park School on Saturday, November 15 at 171 Goddard Ave, Brookline, MA!  Check out the details at

2014 Fall/Winter Cowls are just about done!  Ok, I still have to finish sewing labels into them and then take a few more photos with a model (hardest part, since the model's usually me and I hate having my photo taken).  And then they are ready for the shop and the holiday trunk shows.

This year, I wanted to do a new take on the cowls I've been doing over the years, and I loved the idea of creating a soft, nubbly texture with this simple moss stitch.  The result is super soft and cozy without being too tight...better explained by a photo of someone wearing it...coming up soon.

The cowls are hand knit (by me, of course!) in 100% washable Merino wool, which is really soft (and not itchy) and come in five different colors: black, gray, doe brown, moss green, and royal heather blue.

Wishing you a good weekend.   Typical New England fall weather is predicted around here...sunny, but cooler...I'll be wearing a cowl, no doubt!

Little collection of 5 autumn clothes peg ladies...inspired by orange, green and gold leaves of the season. Putting these in the shop this afternoon.  Have a nice October weekend, folks!!

Just added this collection of handmade vintage floral and Belgian linen pillows to the shop.  Something about them feels very French to me.  4 of each color available at
Burgundy here
Royal blue here

Some orange and yellow on a grey Wednesday.  Just added this cute little orange Turkish coffee maker to the shop. Great for making Turkish coffee of course, (provided you know how to make it!) but also for melting butter or chocolate.

Love these peachy and yellow pillowcases for fall...these are the last sets too!

A few banners left also, right here...

Thanks for having a look!

After the rush of school starting in September, it's always apples that herald the nice things about fall.  We went apple picking last week, and now have tons of apples to transform into a pie, applesauce, and to snack on after lunch.

This week I'm getting to work on some fall clothes peg dolls for the shop and upcoming shows in November and December!  Suddenly they don't seem so far off...

I found these vintage Cathrineholm bowls this summer and couldn't wait to list them in the shop.  I love the green zebra stripes.  My mom had a set of these bowls when I was growing up with orange stripes, in fact I think she still has them!  This set is sturdy and well loved.  I priced them a bit lower than other online dealers have them listed for, because they have a bit of wear and tear on the insides, but they are valuable and highly collectible.  And just very attractive and useful!

Large size is here.
Small size is here.

Monday again, and it's officially fall!

Just put these pillows in the shop for fall/winter.  All 100% soft wool pillow covers in herringbone tweed, plaids, and tartan.

Also updated my site for fall.

And a little vintage shop update coming on Wednesday too.

In the meantime, knitting away on a new set of cowls, in new patterns and colors, hoping to hit the shop in early October.

Just added this cozy and rustic fall vintage collection to my shop.  Even though it's technically still summer, the nights and mornings are cool and crisp around here and I'm ready for fall.  I can't wait to go apple picking and if I can, to drag my family out for an autumn hike somewhere where the leaves are changing and the seasons feel on the cusp of something new...

My personal favorite from this collection is this big, round, gathering basket (middle, bottom row).  I've never seen one like this!  It's really sturdy and has the perfect vintage patina to it.  I imagine it being filled with apples, yarn, blankets...or any other fall collection you can dream up!

Right now, I'm in production mode getting ready for the holiday season, shows, etc., so I'll be posting new things in the shop frequently (after such a relaxing and lazy summer away from the shop).

Thanks as always, for stopping by and having a look around.
