Fascinating! Every species has its reason for being. Humans have no business deciding which ones should live or die.

I didn't know you were in NYC for so long, Bob. It was a time! There must be some current mode of discovery we'll be reminiscing about come 2035...

The quote above fits me to a T. From the late 1970s until I left the New York Metro area for Boston in 1996 I, too, logged countless miles walking around The Village, Chelsea, SoHo, etc. looking for interesting books, music and cultural events. It was a lot of fun and I miss the sense of discovery digging through the stacks, crates, and racks in shops all over Manhattan. Thanks for the memories!

This is so right on so many levels. All the nooks and crannies are disappearing.

Ha! Great analogy. Burning Man has become quite the phenomenon over the past decade, and there are other festivals quickly catching up. It's a fascinating movement on all fronts.

Phadroid is like Martha Graham with lasers! I love it. The Burning Man footage is amazing. The vehicles, structures, music . . . mind-blowing! Thanks.

Awesome! Tina's two-handed tapping is spectacularly speedy and clean. Best part: no "guitar face"—she choses to play it cool and let her axe do the talking.

Major key, upbeat tempo, great melody—bummer lyrics. I'm talking about "In Between Days" by the Cure.

I saw Exitmusic open for School of Seven Bells just about one year ago. I liked their set better than SVIIB! Excellent video. Unsettling yet beautiful.

I was hoping you'd come up with something, Bob! If anybody could (or can) it would be you. Isn't it a weird phenomenon?? We must keep thinking...

I've been thinking about this post since it first appeared and I can't for the life of me come up with any other songs that capture the mood you described so succinctly. Glory Days, Jack & Diane, and yes, More Than a Feeling all have that raucous anthemic sound coupled with wistful lyrics. I think More Than a Feeling is the perfect example. That tune soars into the stratosphere yet is so full of longing. Great post, Nyla.

A classic example of "When Life hands you lemons, make lemonade." Only in this case Phil would probably make Art out of those lemons. An excellent first post for the New Year!

Thanks. Cool tune! The video would have been much better if the director chose one theme and stayed with it. I disliked the glossy, futuristic, Bjork-y part and loved the ‘weird goings on in the woods’ part. A case of one idea too many.
