I used to have worms (I know, it sound bad, and funny!) but unfortunately they didn't survive the 110 degree summer we had. I will try again next year and have a backup plan for any heat we might get. It was a hotter summer than we have had in forever... good luck, I hope it works well for you. The results are great!

Hi, I just came upon your site doing a search for vermicomposting blogs :) I vermicompost and it works just great. I actually use a system called continuous flow using a bag I designed and made (i see you're an etsy sell, as am I - check out my vermicomposting bags at www.nomadneedles.etsy.com when you get a chance). With this method there's no tedious sorting of the vermicast when it's time to harvest. The vermicast is worked out of the bottom and there is some sorting to be done but is very efficient. If you want to visit a great site on vermicompostting I highly rec www.redwormcomposting.com. Bentley the host is an expert, has tons of great info and runs and active blog. I got my idea from something he posted several months ago. Sorry for the long note - but I think this is a great concept for people who hate throwing out food scraps.
Cheers,
Robyn

we actually used to raise redworms a few years ago (prior to 9/11 when it became illegal to ship live animals) and the soil that we still have is the best! coffee grounds and shredded newspaper are the best, and you want to make sure and leave the light on (if they are inside) so they don't escape!!! any more questions...i'll be happy to answer them!!!! :)

We bought a house last year and the lady who sold us the house had done that. She had the most amazing garden too! I thought it was too much work so I didnt do it and now I am regretting it. We will be doing it next year. My hubby gets add the works and take care of spreading it though. I hate crawly things!

We have a little community garden where I work & we're thinking of setting up a worm farm for our compost. Good luck with your garden. I'm looking forward to reading about more of your worm journey adventures!
