Many years ago I sold Avon and I attached the boxes for my kids to play train, or let them climb in and play for themselves. It was a lot of fun for me to see what they would to.

Scout, the granddaughter I watch, will play with about anything, but some days never touches the toys.

She will "dance" to the music, play with the dog, tupperware type containers climb in the rocking chair and just rock. I think I have as much fun watching her as she is playing! Almost a year and with a good sense of humor, some days we laugh all day!

My kids' favorite playthings are my measuring cups. Also my Avon orders come in great lidded boxes, which they use to make trains, cars, castles, cities, what-have-you. And when I wash dishes I scoop up bubbles into plastic containers for them to play with. No toys needed here! :P

Don't you know it! We are looking forward to the refrgerator box playhouse this Christmas! She's learning to use her imagination and why shouldn't she play with the pots and pans...that's what I do...right?

That is good advice. Save all that toy money for college or a wedding or their first home....

I'm with you, my dear! However, my sweetheart respectfully disagrees. He's honestly afraid they'll stop making great toys and buys just about everything he sees! Meanwhile, my kiddos (3 and 1) have entertained themselves for three days with pieces of cardboard I had my Christmas lights wrapped around!

No joke, my 9 month old loves the plastic watering can and boxes too.

I agree! When my brother was young my dad got him an erector set. Dad worked for days after work to make something with the set. Christmas my brother got up to this gift... and played with the box!

My 6-month old is my second daughter. I have seriously told everyone to just wrap up empty boxes for her. She won't care and she'll never know the difference.

Good suggestions! My baby also loves safe kitchen tools, like spatulas, wooden spoons, and measuring cups.
