Thanks, Colleen! That's a great list of terrible advice. Wish I knew why it's so common to hear these things....

Hi Tanya,
Just wanted to share something that a friend of mine has on her site. It's called, Bad Bfing Advice. You can find it here: http://www.mother-2-mother.com/bad-advice.htm

I think your post is so important because the better educated we are as a society, the better chance Moms and babies will breastfeed for a very long time!

Thanks for all you do!

Thanks for the great support. I would like to add one more piece of advice that could be a lifesaver:...

Thanks for the great support. I would like to add one more piece of advice that could be a lifesaver:
Even in the first few days, try to get a little bit of milk stored. When my little boy was 4 days old, I had to go to the ER. Well, we didn't have any stored milk and no formula, so he and my husband had to come with me! Luckily, the ER staff, though horrified at a baby being in such a yucky place, allowed him and my husband to stay in a meeting room so I could nurse him in between tests. Given things like staph infections and all the sick people in ERs, I would have preferred for my husband to have stayed at home with him and some of my milk.

I just don't get why there is so much bad advice about breastfeeding out there. Thanks for the good advice.
