Ethanol as an Alternative Fuel

Fri, 11 Jul 2008 04:13:00 +0000

Some cars have already ran with ethanol which is an equivalent alternative fuel (ethly alcohol or C2H5OH to be precise). It is a 'Biopower' dual-fuel, Saabs can run on.

Runnng cars on ethanol is nothing new, Henry Ford originally designed the Model T run on ethanol or petrol until the prices of Petrol came to a point where it became the dominant road fuel! The fuel is obtained by distilling crops like corn, maize or wheat. The Brazillians have been runnning cars on the stuff since the mid-1970s when economic recession forced them to develop production from the country's abundant sugar-cane crops.

Although it produces carbon dioxide, it's a much less polluting fuel than petrol and burns more completely. Unfortunately, you can't just pour it into a standard petrol car without modification, but that's not the problem. Some firms can supply a black box which changes the pulse rate of the injectors and adjusts the ignition timing to suit the different fuel.

It is not quite as easy to brew up at home as biodiesel, but it is possible and the process is much like making whisky.

This week alone, oil prices has reached to $150 per barrel. Why nothing has been done to stop marketing oil at higher prices? Public users like us who travel by cars, van and lorries suffer from the drastic and non-stop incremental prices of oil. For the past 12 months, oil prices has doubled to $125 per barrel. It seems that $200 for a barrel is possible in few months time.

Have you found a better way to save money on high oil prices? Heard of running water in your car can saves mileage? Some have tried by installing certain basic function and found that it works. Amazingly, it can be done on any cars or lorries and vans.
