OK, don't want to get anyone excited but I was looking at the DVD series that they had in a local music store. The clerk behind the counter asked if I needed help. I asked her if she new if Seinfeld was on DVD yet. She said she actually heard it might be released within a month or so (Sept or Oct). Not sure if she's full of BS but fingers are crossed that she's right. :)

I have heard a lot of rumours lately - the "buzz" is definitely increasing. Aparently Jerry has said that he is working on special features for the DVD. I haven't heard anything official yet though. I wouldn't expect in within a month - but if they want to do it soon, they will probably want to release it before the Christmas shopping season, so you never know...

Hi,

There is Seinfeld on DVD at www.dvdshowsonline.com. I just don't know if it's an official version or just home made.

Can you help ?

I saw it too. It is a homemade version. I have seen a number of people offering homemade versions of DVD or VCD sets. The main problem is that no have no way to tell how good the video quality is. And you can bet that there is no money back guarantee :-) I am waiting for the official release - hopefully it will be soon!

I have noticed that a major portion of people responding to the DVD request are very young, including myself. This should be a perfect reason to create new episodes. This following could last longer than any other series had ever dreamed of. Hopefully they notice this when the petition is sent.

And here in Sweden we will never get seinfeld on dvd, atleast not within a reasonable time after its released in US.

I just saw people selling the series of seinfeld on DVD (not vcd) on ebay. It's going for like a 120 bucks or so. What's up with that? I don't see it in any stores or anything.

Hi, I was just wondering how do you think they're going to organize the seinfeld DVD? I mean there's a different amount of episodes in the first 3 seasons than the rest. I really dont know how they're going to organize it, unless they make all 9 seasons on one DVD but, that would cost way too much, so I dont think they'll do that.

Seinfeld DVD

2003-09-04T23:14:14-05:00

Dino, that's a very good question. I think the first release will be seasons 1 and 2. That's 17 episodes, not quite the same as a "full" 22 epiosde season, but many people (like us) will be willing to pay "full season prices" for it. :-)

DVD's aren't expensive to make. They can be professionally made for VERY cheap.

Most of the money goes towards the production usually.

Since the series has already been filmed and produced they have NOTHING to lose by putting it out on DVD. It'd just be a lot of extra cash. I think Jerry himself is behind it. That could be the only thing holding this back. The company sure wouldn't mind making them. There would be no way of falling short in production fees.

They'd better do something quick or many are going to start losing interest...

Just speculation on my part, but I think perhaps the delay with the DVD season sets may have something to do with how popular Seinfeld still is in syndication. There's a good chance that its syndicated popularity would drop if a lot of the hardcore fans could watch it whenever they wanted. It's still on a ridiculous number of times a day here... I think it comes on something like four times a day during the week.

Seinfeld DVD

2003-09-07T08:42:25-05:00

Will, Jerry has been quotes as saying that the DVD decision is out of his hands. Perhaps thats not 100% true, but that's what he says.

I agree with Jym's assessment, I think the popularity of syndicated reruns has at least something to do with it. One theory is that the networks and TV stations might not renew syndication agreements - a major source of revenue. I don't buy this argument myself - I have all the epiosdes on VHS and on my computer, but I still watch the reruns. People want to watch the show when they know other people are also watching the same episode (after all, it is a "water cooler show", right?)

The release of season 1 must be very close - Amazon have it on their site, though they state it has not yet been released. If the release wasn't very soon, it wouldn't be up there - link below.
What do you think? Maybe they're gonna release one season a year the next 9 years, right before christmas.

Klaus, actually Amazon has had that page on their site for 3 or 4 years. They do that for a lot of shows that haven't been released yet.

Seinfeld DVD

2003-09-09T11:16:32-05:00

OK, thanks.
Sorry if I got anyones hope too high, then. But it is strange that they only have the first season up there.
Anyway, I have a good feeling about it, a lot of people are talking about how they heard that it will be released soon. Anyone knows if there actually is a source for this or if Sony pictures have actually commented on a release? I haven't been able to find any official statement on the net.

Seinfeld DVD

2003-09-09T12:54:15-05:00

Klaus, there has been no official statement from Sony yet, though apparently Jerry has been quoted saying that he has been preparing some promotional materials ("special features"), so maybe it will be soon. From a business perspective, I think they would have to launch it next month in order to make the most of the "Christmas shopping season" -- but....I think they would also like to announce the launch date and hype it many months in advance, and there is not enough time to do that. I am am predicting a 2004 release.

Seinfeld DVD

2003-09-09T14:32:41-05:00

I'd say, you're right, Stan. I think it's obvious to anyone, especially us fans, that Seinfeld (the show alone) is a big and ongoing business, though a very funny one, so they would probably want to hype it big time with countdowns, banners, TV commercials - and it would have been leaked by now if anything was to happen within the near future. Not to mention the well known fact that it's still a big succes on TV. So 2004 sounds likely. And if the special features are good, it will be worth the wait.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that I purchased the DVD from dvdshowsonline. I am just waiting for it to arrive. If it does. I will feel foolish if they don't send the DVD's. It's only been a week and a half, since they cashed my check, so we'll see what happens.

I WANT SEINFELD ON DVD!

Seinfeld DVD

2003-09-11T09:02:57-05:00

Maaaaan, they will never release Seinfeld on DVD over here in the UK. The worst thing is the British media brand the show as BBC 2's best kept secret - but never show it. Well if it's that effin good (which it is) why don't they put it on more often, and not at 2am! Then at least I can tape the bastard!

Rooney...watch your mouth. We are all anxious to have our own copy of Seinfeld on DVD. Instead of complaining, we can use the time to do more useful things in an effort to obtain the DVD. Stan the Caddy...you the man. Keep up the good work.
"But Jerry, its a write off."

i really love seinfeld, i find every single last episode funny. Firstly, i really hope Seinfeld comes out on DVD. Second, if there are really people on Ebay and other websites selling VCDs and DVDs of Seinfeld that they put together, isn't that illegal. If they put together episodes they have and selling them, that is illegally deceminating them. If there is a reason they are allowed to do this leagally, please tell me.

I hope it finally gets released.I love the show and it's killing me to not be able to watch whatever episode I want!!!

2003-09-22T01:11:15-05:00

I have the set on VHS I bought it off ebay 3 years ago$200.00. Looks like someone got a master set and copied it because each one has the episode number and date at the start and tests the sound then goes to the begining of that episode. I would be more then willing to pay $500.00 for the enitre show on DVD though. BTW it is illigal to sell taped copies and they banned that guy from ebay just after I got mine... still have his email if anyone is intrerested.
