Open competition in healthcare

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 06:21:49 GMT

The Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in Newnan recently petitioned the Georgia Department of Community Health to be reclassified as an acute care hospital. This would allow cancer patients full access to the top quality treatment of CTCA instead of only 35% of Georgia residents as currently restricted by law.

The argument I have always felt that was being avoided was the obvious monopolistic activity on the part of the state of Georgia and their various agencies by denying full patient access in lieu of picking winners and losers in the healthcare industry.

Honoring Lights for Linda

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 06:21:48 GMT

Many thanks to Chick-fil-A for sponsoring a Spirit Night for Lights for Linda Luminarias on Oct.19. The supportive and enthusiastic staff truly contributed to our efforts to be able to donate $6,000 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in 2015.

Praise for the NRA

Federal background checks have existed since the "Brady Bill,” and enacted into law before the last century turned.

Every gun sold by a dealer, unless the buyer has a "carry permit," is cleared by an FBI database before delivery of said gun. The so-called gun show loophole only means that I can buy a gun from an individual at a gun show just as I can buy one in an alley in any downtown.

Ode to Bernie

Many people in this country voice a frightening disdain over poverty and hunger as if these two challenging insufficiencies were one's primary and overwhelming concern.

Fine. We all want (or should want) our people to have what is proper to achieve and sustain a good, proper and worthwhile life. To wish otherwise would create a forge of injustice limiting and perhaps destroying the very existence we all are fortunate to possess. But who among us would have the foresight to ask this question: Why do some nations (and our beautiful city of Newnan) prosper and others nations (along with some of our larger and most distinguished cities) continue to wallow in abject subhuman misery?

A great investment

This is probably one of the best financial ways any local resident can help out their community.

Donate a dollar, and two more will be donated on your behalf to a deserving nonprofit. In this case, an incredibly generous matching pledge drive from the Newnan Hospital Foundation that is helping out the Coweta Samaritan Clinic.

Working together as a community

The opposition to the Greentop Road annexation was not motivated by objection to development per se; it was motivated by the reality that traffic has already become dangerous on the main arteries serving our county.

Three government entities share responsibility for our roads: the city, the county, and the state. Regrettably, too often each government entity makes self-serving decisions without accountability for the damage those decisions do to the existing infrastructure governed by other government entities: i.e. “It’s not my problem.”
