Apparatus and method for making glass sheet with improved sheet stability

Tue, 12 May 2015 08:00:00 EDT

Apparatus and equipment for making glass sheet from a glass ribbon including scoring, bending and separation in vertical state with improved glass ribbon stability provided by edge restrainers located above the score-line that also travel with substantially the same vertical velocity with the elastic ribbon. The edge restrainers on both sides of the glass ribbon serve to limit the motion and perturbation of the ribbon during scoring, bending and separation, advantageously by tensioning the glass ribbon where needed. The invention can reduce disturbance of the glass ribbon in upstream visco-elastic and/or viscous zones due to scoring, bending and separation, therefore enhance forming process stability and product attributes such as thickness variation, stress and stress variation, and the like. The invention can be particularly advantageous for making glass sheet with large width and/or low thickness using the fusion down-draw, slot down-draw, re-draw down-draw, and other down-draw processes.

A method of forming a scribe line in a strengthened glass substrate includes providing a strengthened glass substrate having a first surface, a second surface, a first edge and a second edge. The first and second surfaces have a strengthened surface layer under a compressive stress, and a central region under tensile stress. The method further includes applying a scoring blade to the first surface at an initiation location that is offset from the first edge by an initiation offset distance greater than a diameter of the scoring blade, and translating the scoring blade or the strengthened glass substrate such that the scoring blade scores the first surface. The translation is terminated such that the scoring blade stops at a termination location that is offset from the second edge of the strengthened glass substrate by a termination offset distance greater than the diameter of the scoring blade.

Glass plate cutting method and glass plate cutting machine

A glass plate cutting machine 1 includes a cutter wheel 4 for forming a cut line 3 on a glass plate 2; a moving means 5 for moving the cutter wheel 4 along a cut line 3a which has been preset and is to be formed on the glass plate 2; a resiliently pressing device 6 for resiliently pressing the cutter wheel 4 against the glass plate 2; and a control unit 7 for controlling the resiliently pressing device 6 so as to alternately change over the intensity of a resiliently pressing force of that cutter wheel 4 with respect to the glass plate 2 in the movement of the cutter wheel 4 by the moving means 5.

Apparatus for breaking off the head of a glass ampoule

Tue, 23 Sep 2014 08:00:00 EDT

An apparatus for breaking off the head of a glass ampoule that is composed of a cylindrical body, a neck forming a predetermined breaking point and a head, comprising an incline extending in an inclined manner to the axis of the ampoule to be inserted toward the same, a first support surface is disposed on the side of the incline causing a break-off of the head in the region above the bottom of the ampoule to be inserted at a radius of the ampoule from the axis of the apparatus and a second support surface is disposed on the opposite side beneath the neck of the ampoule at a distance from the axis of the apparatus that corresponds to the radius of the ampoule, during a relative movement of the apparatus to the ampoule in the direction of the axis thereof the incline breaks off the head at the neck.
