OSS Watch


OSS Watch is the national advisory service on free and open source software for UK higher and further education, hosted by the University of Oxford. It develops best-practice guidelines, investigative reports, and briefing materials for strategic IT decision-makers, software developers, and academic end-users. As well as a web-based clearing-house for up to date information, OSS Watch organizes national conferences, expert workshops and offers focused assistance for institutions and software projects. It is funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC).

Site Licensed Software


OUCS has negotiated many site licence and bulk purchase agreements in order to offer a variety of software to members of the University at advantageous prices. The full list of software offered by OUCS can be seen on the web.

Hardware Maintenance, Upgrades and Repairs


OUCS offers a very competitively priced maintenance service for PC and Macintosh personal computers, as well as their printers and other peripherals. It is available to University Institutions, Colleges and to University members on a personal basis for their privately owned equipment, including a discount for students. This is probably one of the best deals in the country.

Computing Services Online Shop


All University members can obtain software packages at reduced prices and have them delivered anywhere in the UK. The online shop also includes a Service Payment Centre for poster printing, hardware repairs and Herald email recovery.

NSMS: The Network Systems Management Services


NSMS provides a variety of chargeable IT support services to the University and its associated institutions. It can manage file servers, workstations, anti-virus support, holiday cover for support staff, advanced web hosting services, a "shared" calendaring and contacts service, conference registration, extensive VMware based Virtualisation consultancy and many more services.
