Thermal shock resistance of a ceramic honeycomb structure is increased through modifications of the cell wall joints. Wall joints can be modified such that a longitudinally-extending opening is created, putting two or more cells that meet at the wall joint in fluid communication through such opening. In such a case, all walls that meet at such a modified joint must join at least one other wall at that joint. Alternatively, wall joints can be modified by providing stress concentrating notches which extend into the joint from two or more cells that share the joint.

Reactor with clustered separation devices

A fluid catalytic cracking reactor including a vessel, a chamber housed within the vessel, and a plurality of cyclones housed within the vessel, but externally of the chamber. The plurality of cyclones are arranged in a plurality of cyclone clusters, where each of the cyclone clusters includes a grouping of at least two cyclones that share common outlet piping for communication with the chamber. Alternatively, a fluid catalytic cracking reactor including a vessel, a chamber housed within the vessel, and a plurality of catalytic separation devices housed within the vessel, but externally of the chamber. The catalytic separation devices are in communication with the chamber via outlet piping. Preferably, the catalytic separation devices of the reactor are also in communication with a plenum via separator gas outlet piping, and optionally at least one of the catalytic separation devices feeds an outlet vapor stream into at least two different separator gas outlet piping members.

Exhaust gas purifying apparatus for diesel engine

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 08:00:00 EDT

An exhaust gas purifying apparatus for a diesel engine includes a diesel particulate filter (DPF) in an exhaust system in the diesel engine. The exhaust gas purifying apparatus is constructed to execute regeneration of the DPF by raising a temperature of the DPF in a case where a predetermined DPF regeneration condition is fulfilled, interrupt the regeneration of the DPF, execute idling stop, automatically restart the diesel engine and then restart the regeneration of the DPF, and when shifting to the idling operation is carried out during regeneration of the DPF, delay execution of the idling stop until a temperature of the DPF at a time at which the idling stop is started becomes not less than a temperature of the DPF at a time at which shifting to an idling operation is carried out even in a case where the predetermined idling stop condition is fulfilled.

Cyclone having a pure gas line

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 08:00:00 EDT

A cyclone for separating solid particles from an exhaust gas flow includes a housing with a jacket area that is cylindrical at least in some sections, with a cover area, and with a bottom area. An exhaust gas line opens into an inlet opening and is for an exhaust gas flow mixed with solid particles. A discharge opening is for the solid particles separated from the exhaust gas flow. An immersion pipe has a penetration area passing through the housing and has an open end area protruding into the interior of the housing and used as an outlet opening for the purified exhaust gas flow from the housing. At least one pure gas line supplies pure gas, creating a second boundary layer flow to replace a first boundary layer flowing having an increased concentration of solid particles.
