The rotatable metal discs and the magnetic cylinder form an eddy current brake which counteracts a pulling motion on the continuous, flexible pulling member.

In this way, the pull ring unit can be pulled to perform an expected motion when the support plate bears a gravitational force, the cantilever is pulled downwardly, and the linking hook lever is released from a locked status relative to the rotary latching plate. When the external force of the pull ring unit disappears, the support plate is descended by the gravitational force to resume its original position and locked to a low static position automatically.

An intelligent treadmill is described with modifications to existing treadmills, and associated methodology. The invention allows the conveyor belt automatically keeps track of and fixes the user's position dynamically with respect to a stationery reference point of the treadmill by adjusting its own speed free hands. Two position measurement techniques and their corresponding belt speed control algorithms are described. Other features of the invention allow users to perceive in real time how their surroundings would be changing by means of video, incline of platform, fan speed, sound and illumination as if they were in fact running in the natural environment. Real time positions of the runner and his partners on other treadmills with respect to a chosen track are displayed. The invention also utilizes a vectored controlled 2/3-phase AC induction motor or a BLDC motor to drive the conveyor belt for energy efficiency and fast response.



Neck Therapy Exercise Device and Method

Disclosed is a neck therapy exercise apparatus, comprising a helmet having a weighted flexible rod which may be either permanently or detachably affixed to the top exterior center of the helmet. The flexible rod consists of a first end which may have a connector enabling the attachment of various sized weights to the first end, and a second end, affixed to the helmet. The helmet is custom-sized to a user's head and securely fastened to the head. Therapeutic exercise is accomplished by the user, while wearing the helmet, and weighted flexible rod, slowly rotating his/her head 360 degrees in a generally horizontal plane in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. In different embodiments, the user may replace the weights at the end of flexible rod with increasingly heavier weights as strength is gained during the exercises.
