In one embodiment, a method of a relevancy-matching server includes matching primary data generated from a fingerprint data with targeted data based on a relevancy factor, locating in a storage the targeted data, a reference to the targeted data, and/or a metadata of the targeted data. A mobile device is associated with a television. An executable environment is constrained in a security sandbox of the mobile device. A sandboxed application is executed in the executable environment capable of bypassing at least one access control of the security sandbox. An embedded object is processed in the sandboxed application. The television and/or the mobile device are to generate the fingerprint data from characteristic features of media data. The relevancy-matching server is to match the targeted data with the primary data such that the relevancy-matching server is to locate in the storage an item based on a relevancy factor.

RELEVANCY IMPROVEMENT THROUGH TARGETING OF INFORMATION BASED ON DATA GATHERED FROM A NETWORKED DEVICE ASSOCIATED WITH A SECURITY SANDBOX OF A CLIENT DEVICE

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 08:00:00 EDT

A method, apparatus, and system related to relevancy improvement through targeting of information based on data gathered from a television associated with a security sandbox of a mobile device are disclosed. In one aspect, a system may include a television to generate a fingerprint data. The fingerprint data is an audio fingerprint data and/or a video fingerprint data. A relevancy-matching server matches primary data generated from the fingerprint data with targeted data based on a relevancy factor, and searches a storage for at least one of the targeted data, a reference to the targeted data, and a metadata of the targeted data. The primary data is a content identification data and/or a content identification history. A mobile device capable of being associated with the television processes an embedded object, constrains an executable environment in a security sandbox, and executes a sandboxed application in the executable environment.

INTERACTIVE CONTENT ACQUISITION USING EMBEDDED CODES

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 08:00:00 EDT

Methods and devices are provided to obtain associated information for a multimedia content. One such method includes receiving a content at a receiver device equipped with a watermark detector, performing watermark detection on the received content to extract a payload of an embedded watermark. The payload comprises a first field that includes a server identifier and a second field that includes an interval identifier associated with the server identifier. The first field provides a mapping to an Internet address accessible to retrieve metadata associated with content segments identified by the watermark payload. In this method, based on the detected watermark payload, a query is formed and transmitted to a server identified by the Internet address, and a response to the query is received from the server that includes metadata associated with the content.

ADDING CONTENT DURING DATA STREAM ACQUISITION

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 08:00:00 EDT

A method is provided for adding extended content data during data stream acquisition. The method includes receiving a request for a transition from a first data stream to a second data stream within a transitioning time period. The method also includes determining whether a timing of the transition is sufficient for insertion of at least a first portion of extended content data during the transition. The method also includes selecting the first portion of the extended content data as insertion content if the timing of the transition is sufficient for insertion of the first portion of the extended content data. The method also includes selecting a second portion of the extended content data as the insertion content if the timing is insufficient for insertion of the first portion of the extended content. The method also includes causing the insertion content to be presented to a user during the transition.

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR CENTRALIZED AND DECENTRALIZED EMERGENCY ALERT MESSAGING

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 08:00:00 EDT

Apparatus and methods for providing emergency alert system (EAS) data to subscribers of a content-based network for multiple locations including via mobile devices. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a server performing real-time receipt and encapsulation of the EAS data, transport of the EAS data to client devices over an IP or other packet-switched network, and use of applications running on the client devices to decode and display the EAS data. In one variant, a centralized EAS (CEAS) entity is used to aggregate and distribute EAS messages to video registration servers (VRS), which use stored client device data and user preferences to map delivery of relevant EAMs over the IP network. In another variant, instant messaging (IM) infrastructure is used to deliver and display at least portion of the EAS data via a separate transport process.

UTILIZING MULTIPLE DIMENSIONS OF COMMERCE AND STREAMING DATA TO PROVIDE ADVANCED USER PROFILING AND REALTIME COMMERCE CHOICES

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 08:00:00 EDT

Multiple dimensions of commerce and streaming data are able to be used to provide advanced user profiling and realtime commerce choices. By performing site and experience analytics, video analytics, commerce analytics and user analytics, better commerce choices are able to be presented to the user.

ADVERTISEMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR DIGITAL VIDEO STREAMS

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 08:00:00 EDT

An Ad Management System (AMS) for managing sales and insertion of targeted advertisements into advertising opportunities (“avails”). The AMS provides advertisers an ability to describe their advertisements (ad characteristics) in terms of target market demographics, required ad bandwidth, ad duration, and other ad specific parameters. The AMS receives the ad characteristics and matches the ads to the avails. The AMS tracks different avails including duration and bandwidth of the avail, and uses a number of schemes to determine if the ad can be placed in the avail including comparing bandwidth requirements. The AMS targets advertisements by correlating subscriber characteristics to the ad characteristics. The subscriber characteristics may be associated with groups of subscribers (e.g. nodes in cable television environments) or to individual subscribers.

Media Player Configuration to Provide Viewing Data Feedback

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 08:00:00 EDT

A method transmits configuration information including a set of events that define when a media program player should send information regarding playback of an advertisement during an advertisement break in a media program. Also, the method transmits, to the user device, advertising control options configured to be output on the user device. A user selection for a control option in the advertising control options is received from the user device, wherein the control option controls sending of an advertisement to the user device during the advertisement break. The method then receives advertisement viewing data describing a viewing of the advertisement on the user device, wherein sending of the advertisement viewing data by the media program player is triggered based on an event in the set of events occurring at the media program player.
