On March 11, 2014 an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0 hit off the coast of Japan. The earthquake was felt throughout Japan. However the true disaster was the massive tsunami, with 30 foot high waves, that hit the island country later that day. The effects of this earthquake and tsunami are seen today and will be seen far into the future.

Top 3 Stories of 21st Century

Thu, 25 Apr 2013 03:51:30 +0000

There are always events that are more talked about and worried over than any other story. The top 3 in the last 13 years, in my opinion, were the terrorist attacks in 2001, the tsunami in the Indian Ocean in 2005, and the Gulf Oil Spill in 2010.

Review of The Impossible

Tue, 22 Jan 2013 21:25:11 +0000

I really enjoyed this movie. It is a true story of a family who visited Thialand on holiday, when a tsunami hits the coast. This movie is very graphic and intense, it really leaves nothing out, and shows the true gore a tsunami can bring. This movie is about survival against all odds. I also really liked the fact that it was a family trying to find each other, and how strong the young kids really were.

You heard about it on the news, in the paper, everyone was talking about it. The March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. It's June now, and other things are happening that pull your attention away from this disaster. But the struggle isn't over yet, even if you may not hear about it so much anymore. In fact, Japan's recovery will continue for months and years. It's important that we stand by the country and support the people, not just now, but in the years to come. What can you do to help?

Jamie's Song

Thu, 05 May 2011 12:47:27 +0000

I found Jamie's song to be unique on quakestories because this was not a regular song. This was more of a narrative, a story being told, with respectful music being played in the background to add on to the suspense of the situation.

The Earthquake and Tsunami from Japan

I’m learning more about Japan right now, and in particular what I’m
wondering about is: What is the aftermath of the
“Earthquake&Tsunami”? I was researching this question online, and

Osama bin laden's death covers up any recent news about the Japan earthquake.

Wed, 04 May 2011 00:31:59 +0000

It's unfair that the news about Osama Bin Laden's death over powers any news about Japan. If the news forgets about it then so will people, and the Japanse need help. I was wondering if the power plants ever got fixed in Japan and I couldn't get any information. Also I think, as Mrs.Brownstone says, that it's really disgusting that people are running out on the streets and cheering over someone's death. No one should do that.

Quake Stories Blogs 2

Blog #2

By Izzy Lee 7-1

In this blog I am going to talk about the different views children take in Japan about the earthquake and Tsunami. Although I am glad that many of the students writing Quake stories try and take a positive attitude toward the terrible damage that has been done to their country I am worried that some students and people in less damaged areas are under informed about the danger they are in.
