Hilton Chair Lecture: "Ethical Considerations"

This closing lecture/interaction for the spring installment of the Hilton Chair lecture series will feature Brian Green of Santa Clara University speaking about the potential ethical implications of emerging and disruptive food technologies. He'll share what needs to be considered so people may use these technologies in ways that encourage the development of a healthy, fair, and sustainable food system for the future.

Iowa School Business Management Academy

The Iowa School Business Management Academy prepares school business managers, board secretaries, and school administrators for performance of their business management responsibilities. The courses that are offered through this program are designed to improve management and leadership abilities of school personnel responsible for human resource services, business functions, and finance operations in Iowa's schools. This program is the only program approved by the Iowa State Board of Education to provide the required two years of training and support for new School Business Officials, or SBOs. Pre-registration is required to attend.

"A World Intellectual Property Day" celebration

Class of 2018 Project SEARCH graduation

Join Project SEARCH in celebrating the class of 2018 Project SEARCH graduates: Amber Kirk, Chloe Schmidt, Marianne Russell, and Adele Krier. The program, first implemented at Iowa State in fall 2016 by the College of Human Sciences, helps young adults with disabilities gain hands-on work experience. At this event, the graduates who have been working across campus will be recognized with a ceremony, followed by a reception. The program will include speeches by the interns as well as by Linda Impecoven-Lind, a senior lecturer in the School of Education; Jonathan Wickert, ISU senior vice president and provost; Robert Reason, associate director of the School of Education; Project SEARCH instructor Lauren Rush; Tricia Crain, executive director of The Arc Story County; and ISU President Wendy Wintersteen.

CHS Entrepreneurship Showcase

College of Human Sciences students compete for cash prizes as people from business, industry, and academia judge them on their ideas to start a new business or spruce up an existing one. The 15th annual College of Human Sciences Entrepreneurship Showcase will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in the LeBaron Hall lobby area. The awards ceremony will follow at 9 p.m. in the LeBaron Auditorium. The showcase will feature team and individual entries from students in Linda Niehm's AESHM 474-574 Entrepreneurship in Human Sciences class. Students will compete in eight categories including best of show new business start-up idea, best of show consulting project for an existing business, best use of experience economy strategies, most sustainable business proposal, best display and visual presentation, people's choice award, and technology innovation award. Prizes range from $50 to $200. Judging and displays are open to the public.

Deadline to apply for unpaid internship or student teaching scholarship

All undergraduate students in the College of Human Sciences are eligible to apply for scholarships to aid with the cost of living during their unpaid internship or student teaching experience during summer 2018. Awards range from $1,000 to $2,000.
