Request for Comments on the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) Functions: The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) currently performs the IANA functions, on behalf of the United States Government, through a contract with NTIA. Given the September 30, 2011 expiration of this contract, NTIA is seeking public comment to enhance the performance of the IANA functions in the development and award of a new IANA functions contract. NTIA Unveils National Broadband Map and New Broadband Adoption Survey Results

NTIA unveiled the National Broadband Map -- the first public, searchable nationwide map of broadband Internet availability -- and the results of a new nationwide survey on broadband adoption. The data will support efforts to expand broadband access and adoption in communities at risk of being left behind in the 21st century economy and help businesses and consumers seeking information on their high-speed Internet options.

NTIA announced that it has selected the next spectrum band for a detailed evaluation of whether it can be repurposed for commercial broadband use.
